On Thursday, Oct. 2, Alan Keyes issued the following endorsement of Sen. Tom McClintock in California's recall election:
Next Tuesday's recall election has been forced upon a corrupt politician by you, a people that has awakened to its responsibility and right to reclaim self-government. On October 7th, you have the chance to repudiate the corrupt and unprincipled governor and the elite that has brought the state to the brink of disaster.
It would be tragic if the choice of his successor were itself corrupted by the same unprincipled forces that have made the recall necessary.
The alternative to Gray Davis is neither his incompetent heir apparent, nor an unprincipled millionaire celebrity who has exploited your serious efforts by purchasing a brief moment of superficial political prominence. This is not Arnold Schwarzenegger's moment; it is yours.
It is your moment to reassert the dignity of citizenship, and the capacity of a free people to answer its call in an hour of judgment.
Senator Tom McClintock, the candidate your political bosses don't want you to consider, has embodied throughout his political life the dignity and seriousness of the citizen vocation.
He is acknowledged by friend and foe alike to be the people's champion of fiscal responsibility in the California State Senate. He has foreseen and warned against the crisis we now face for over a decade. His knowledge and experience in issues of state finance are unmatched -- and make him the only candidate qualified to face this crisis.
Tom McClintock's principled and consistent stands on the other issues of permanent concern to this free people are well known. He is a generous and wise defender of the idea of citizenship, of equality before the law without regard for race, of private property rights and free enterprise, of the right and duty of responsible citizens to keep and bear arms.
He has been a constant defender of the marriage-based, two-parent family, of educational liberty, and of the crucial connection between moral character and liberty.
Above all, he has consistently grounded his policy judgments in the undying principles of the Declaration of Independence. Unlike either of his opponents, he is a champion of all the inalienable rights of man, including the most fundamental -- the right to life.
Senator McClintock knows that these principles were the source of California's greatness. Under his leadership, they can be so again.
Your would-be masters are convinced that you will not cast your ballot for the restoration of the substance of California's greatness, but can be stampeded into voting for a brutal simulation of leadership.
They are betting that you have permanently lost the hope for justice that is the first duty of the citizen, and will settle for the lesser of two evils.
Senator Tom McClintock has answered the statesman's call of duty for his entire public life, preparing himself to serve us in just such a moment. Now it is your turn to answer the citizen's call of duty.
I urge the good and responsible people of California to honor your long history of rugged individualism, and fulfill your promise of true national leadership, by electing Tom McClintock Governor.
Alan Keyes

Both Keyes and McClintock are now irrelevant.

LOL...sounds reasonable. ;-)

Both Keyes and McClintock are now irrelevant. Then you have nothing to be concerned with, eh?

Nice tag.

I don't support him for a few reasons, in California, he can't win, his positions are beyond the level of electability. Also, while I am a Republican, I am not part of the religious right republican crowd, nor do I like having them in office. Amen. I find the radical far right to be as hypocritical as the Democrats - they want less government EXCEPT with social issues, and the Dems want more government EXCEPT with social issues.

Also, while I am a Republican, I am not part of the religious right republican crowd, nor do I like having them in office. I lean towards the Republican Libertarian side. I have a great congressman in AZ, Jeff Flake, a damn good man. Hopefully after his next term when he steps down voluntarily because of term limits (which no other AZ congressman had the balls to follow, except his predecessor) he will run for Governor here.
Fair enough.
Jeff Flake's definitely one of the good guys. You're lucky.

I always figured you to be more original than that.

Both Keyes and McClintock are now irrelevant. Not true, they were never relevant, as I posted on the pulled thread, Tom is gonna get the Admiral Stockdale "why am I here" award for ruining a once stellar career.

I probably shouldn't even comment considering I'm not a Califoria resident and therefore, don't have a dog in this fight. But if I was a resident, I would be volunteering to help Tom McClintock and if by tuesday afternoon there was no hope, I would vote for Arnold as an insurance policy against a Bustemonte or Davis win

Keyes would be better off sticking to the Ten Commandments tour, where he will possibly find like-minded religious zealots who believe that his opinions are relevant--even when nobody asks for them.

I always admired Keyes for his articulate conservative views and debating skill. I thought he "won" the Presidential debates he was in. Would have loved to see him rip Gore a new one in that format. I even enjoyed his MSNBC show. If Bush could speak like Keyes, our job would be alot easier. Unfortunately, Alan has a massive ego to go along with his intelligence.

For someone who is 'ruining his career' he has sure risen to national prominence. ;-)

"Do you have any comments about the substance of the policy differences between the candidates, or do those not matter to you?"
Of course they don't matter to them just like it doesn't matter to the "conservative" party hacks like Drier, Simon,Brulte and the rest of them who revealed that the party is more inportant to them than their so-called conservative core beliefs. These clowns ( pols) also supported Riordan & Wilson. When the voters rejected Riordan by voting for Mr. Ineptness of 2002 (Simon), then these phonies supported Simon.
These politicians deserve no respect as far as I'm concerned.

Well, I used to be lucky; they redistricted me out of his district, I am saddled with the blubbering buffoon, JD Hayworth. A marginal dullard with an uncanny ability to devote the higher parts of his brain to seeking out TV cameras and hair care products, at the expense of any meaningful cognitive functions.
He is kinda like Hoss on Gunsmoke when he is trying to read a kindergarten book, except its not a humourous situation...

Show me someone who doesn't in politics to at least some extent.
But sometimes confidence in the message can be taken for arrogance when it isn't.
I was sitting nearby in a couple of those debates, and I saw what Alan was doing when the camera wasn't on him. He was praying. That is a sign of humility.
