Poll: Bush down, Clark up (Clark 49% - W 46%)

Wesley Clark emerged as the Democratic front-runner days after entering the race, according to the poll.

Fifty percent of 1,003 people questioned for the poll approved of Bush's job performance -- down from 59 percent in August and 71 percent in April -- the president's lowest rating since he came to office in January 2001.

Clark does NOT HAVE THE NAME ID to beat Bush like that!

Maybe, maybe not.

One thing we better start doing is to realize that Bush COULD lose the election. That would be a disaster, but do not underestimate the Dims, or how easy it is to sway the general population. We cannot take anything for granted when it comes to dealing with libs. Even if polls showed W ahead by 30 points, you work even harder to keep the momentum up. You do not relax!

A few months ago Rush said "it's over for the Democratic party". I immediately thought that was a foolish and stupid thing to say.

I hope Bush has something(s) up his sleeve and is just letting the Dims get bold.

I'm not sure what to make of this. It depends on the methodology. I suspect they just count people who can ID the candidates which would probably tend to favor Democrats since it is their primary and they're more likely to pay attention.

Clark has nowhere to go but down. He's already got all the "Wow he's a general" people behind him. When the real story starts to emerge his poll numbers will fall.

Are you aware that up until a few weeks ago, Gallup's approval numbers for Bush were running higher than average? And that they've been running polls for longer than most of us have been alive?

Look, I'm not ascribing any more value to this poll than it deserves. The only poll that matters in November 2004. But calling this a "push poll" is absurd.

Now about media polls. The only poll that counts is on Nov.7 2004. The media likes to tighten up the field in a presidential poll so to have the canidates think they have a chance. They "means" the ones with the most money to spend on advertizing in their media businesses.

I read that Clark and Dean have deep pockets now so they will spend some of their war chest before Super Tuesday.

I'm presumimg abit about the media's motives but I follow the money and try to figure out the angle.

So Pubbie, the media makes their money fooling the public and us Republicians will need to work hard and stick together to defeat the Dem's in 2004.

That is right on. There is no effing way Clark would be ahead of Bush. I have been highly suspicious of these polls coming out lately that show Bush in a total free fall. Almost every single one of them is a liberal biased poll.

I just heard it on FOX from Fred Barnes. It is a poll of 48% Democrats, maybe not all even registered voters. This poll can be thrown in the trash.

Ret. Joint Chiefs Chair Gen. Hugh Shelton: I Won't Back Clark for Prez

The military man who was Gen. Wesley Clark's superior officer when he served as Supreme Allied Commander of NATO shocked a California college forum earlier this month when he questioned Clark's integrity and said he wouldn't back his presidential candidacy under any circumstances.

Addressing a gathering at Foothill College in Los Altos, Calif., two weeks ago, retired general Hugh Shelton, who served as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under President Clinton, was asked by the event's moderator, Dick Henning, "What do you think of General Wesley Clark and would you support him as a presidential candidate?"

At the mention of Clark's name, Gen. Shelton's expression darkened, and he paused for a drink of water.

The gesture prompted Henning to add, "I noticed you took a drink on that one!"

According to the account carried in the Los Altos Town Crier, Clark's old boss replied, "That question makes me wish it were vodka."

Shelton then explained:

"I've known Wes for a long time. I will tell you the reason he came out of Europe early had to do with integrity and character issues, things that are very near and dear to my heart. I'm not going to say whether I'm a Republican or a Democrat. I'll just say Wes won't get my vote."

Though Shelton declined to elaborate, he offered only praise for President Bush, saying that he has "earned kudos in spite of the criticism" for keeping up the pressure in the war on terrorism.
