Dixie Chicks to break with country scene

The Dixie Chicks say they don't want to be a country music band any more.

Violinist Martie Maguire told Spiegel magazine: "We don't feel part of the country scene any longer, it can't be our home any more."

She said she was disappointed other country singers didn't back up the Dixie Chicks in their criticism of George W Bush's politics on Iraq.

"A few weeks ago, Merle Haggard said a couple of nice words about us, but that was it," Maguire complained.

"The support we got came from others, like Bruce Springsteen."

Going home empty-handed from the Country Awards ceremony also made them decide to break with the scene, Maguire said.

"Instead, we won three Grammys against much stronger competition.

"So we now consider ourselves part of the big Rock 'n' Roll family."

Sheesh, another music hero is off my list. He is defending their right to speak out. Why can't these people understand that no one has denied them their right to speak out! After Sony signed them and hired stylists, they got the look that took propelled them towards Hollywood. It was just a matter of time.

No surprise! I called this move back when their foot-in-mouth episode occurred in the UK. I looked for the post but couldn't find it. JimRob, there's gotta be a better search engine that could find words in a title as well as a a poster.

The country music demographics are not consistent with their stated political leanings. They will never be more than an also-ran in country music after Natalie screwed the pooch. Their egos are way too big to accept that role.

The origial Chicks, before the fat one, preformed all over Dallas back in the early 90's, and were good.

It wasn't until they got the "fat one" did they get stupid.
