Dixie Chicks to break with country scene

The Dixie Chicks say they don't want to be a country music band any more.

Violinist Martie Maguire told Spiegel magazine: "We don't feel part of the country scene any longer, it can't be our home any more."

She said she was disappointed other country singers didn't back up the Dixie Chicks in their criticism of George W Bush's politics on Iraq.

"A few weeks ago, Merle Haggard said a couple of nice words about us, but that was it," Maguire complained.

"The support we got came from others, like Bruce Springsteen."

Going home empty-handed from the Country Awards ceremony also made them decide to break with the scene, Maguire said.

"Instead, we won three Grammys against much stronger competition.

"So we now consider ourselves part of the big Rock 'n' Roll family."

Aw too bad.

Gee. They just can't understand why slapping most other country musicians, and almost all the fans, in the face was a stupid idea.

Now the "All About Us" Chicks can delve even deeper into their self-absorption and narcissism.

Have fun, girls! And don't forget to smear disgusting substances on your icky bodies the next time you strip off for publicity. It makes you look so much more natural.

It's good to see that their dedication to their music is outweighed by their politics.

Priorities.

In an essay on Haggard's Web site, the 66-year-old singer writes, "I don't even know the Dixie Chicks, but I find it an insult for all men and women who fought and died in past wars when almost the majority of America jumped down their throats for voicing an opinion. It was like a verbal witch-hunt and lynching."

The rest is Here

I can't say I'm gonna miss 'em.

Criticize George Bush all you want, but have the guts to do it on American soil. It wasn't your lack of patriotism we objected to, it was your lack of guts.

(Please, no fat jokes.)

Shalom.

Haggard is a legend, but he's wrong here. Just like Willie Nelson suckin' up to the Democrat Party Operatives in Texas. They can get away with it somewhat, though, because of their longevity. The Chicks haven't proved a damn thing to anyone, despite their talent.

Good riddance, Vichy Chix.

I was very disappointed to hear that Springsteen had something nice to say about these pieces of work.

Yes, beating out Eminem, Missy Elliot, and Ludacris surely puts you in the ranks of the world's greatest musicians.
