Laredo is on the border, so it is very South Texas.

I'm not sure why you're celebrating. If Tony Sanchez, whom you supported, had been elected, there wouldn't have been any redistricting.

I think US Supreme Court upheld gerrymandering. I know it has been around since day one. I would love to see conservative redistricting in Texas.

I just know Texas is the home of LBJ and TexMex politics. I want to see the fat lady sing before I applaud.

Therefore, absent the tendency of most judges to obey the law, I would never have won most of my federal cases which (with only two exceptions) for independent or third-party candidates. (The exceptions were Jerry Brown, Democrat, and George Bush, Republican.)

Would you please translate. Just what are you trying to say: were you representing third party candidates, what connection do third party candidates have to the Texas case and what are Jerry Brown and Bush doing in there, as they are not third party?

Between the double negatives, the missing word (s?) and the lack of readily discernable connection, I'm not sure how your examples illustrate your point.

South Texas, West Texas

IDEA - why don't we call it South West Texas?? I suppose we could, except the Rio Grande River did not cooperate and left SW Texas down in Mexico (Coahuila and Chihuahua).

I come from the "real" South Texas, the Lower Rio Grande Valley, and even for us Laredo was not close. But nothing in Texas is close to anywhere else in Texas.

BTW, Laredo is actually east of Abilene (a pinch), and way, way south of San Antone, which is considered south Texas. And even Abilene is only a third of the way from Dallas to El Paso. In fact Abilene is 100 miles closer to Louisiana than it is to El Paso.

IMHO, West Texas begins the other (west) side of Abilene and runs to El Paso. It would include Midland (my hometown), Odessa, Pecos, Ft. Stockton, Alpine, et al. Those of you from Texas see where I'm going. I guess we could include Lubbock. And I've always considered Amarillo the "true" North Texas. LOL! I can see why some think Laredo is "West Texas". They're the dems who control the RGV, Austin and Houston. They tell themselves that Laredo is "West Texas" so they think they're getting votes from a part of the state (the "real" West Texas") that even Tony Sanchez was too scared to show up in during the election. Ann Richards hated us. So did Mark White. The only time pols show up is if they are Rick Perry, Pres. Bush (remember he came to Midland the day before he went to D.C. for his swearing in to celebrate the victory in his hometown)or anyone who has an "R" after their name. The DUmmies don't dare show their heads out there.

"The Democrats keep reminding us that it is Republican voters who keep the popular Stamford Democrat Stenholm in the House. "

Yeah but only the voters that are used to him, give him some new terriotry where people don't know him and/or stick him in the same seat with a GOP incumbent (afaik most of the floated plans stick Charlie with newly elected Rep. Neuguebauer) and he'll lose. He barley won last year as it is. Neuguebauer with his base and money would beat him.

... the appearance that the judges are implying that not only may the fines be "moot," ...

Maybe I'm misreading their comment as reported, but it seems to me they were avoiding the issue ? It sounds to me like they were saying that the 'RATS and GOP would work it out [as they should] in the future and thus would keep the court out of actually having to decide an internal Legislative matter/process.

For reasons discussed at the hearing, neither the facts nor the law on the issue of threatened monetary sanctions are sufficiently developed at this point to permit an informed decision. Moreover, it is possible that future developments could also moot this issue."

The Texas Senate has levied fines against the Renegade 'RATS, but the fines have not been collected [threatened monetary sanctions [not] sufficiently developed]. Hypothetically, then, if the Senate withdraws the sanctions and the redistricting goes through and passes court muster, etc., then the issue is moot and will not need a ruling ...

I'm not saying that the GOP Senate should withdraw the fines [I'm all for the 'RATS payin' for it out of THEIR OWN POCKETS!!], only that the judges don't have anything to rule on at this point. If the GOP actually prohibits the 'RATS from actually voting on the Senate floor for not having paid the fine, AND the 'RATS press the issue back to the court, THEN the court's decision would be required.
