South Texas, West Texas

IDEA - why don't we call it South West Texas?? I suppose we could, except the Rio Grande River did not cooperate and left SW Texas down in Mexico (Coahuila and Chihuahua).

I come from the "real" South Texas, the Lower Rio Grande Valley, and even for us Laredo was not close. But nothing in Texas is close to anywhere else in Texas.

BTW, Laredo is actually east of Abilene (a pinch), and way, way south of San Antone, which is considered south Texas. And even Abilene is only a third of the way from Dallas to El Paso. In fact Abilene is 100 miles closer to Louisiana than it is to El Paso.

IMHO, West Texas begins the other (west) side of Abilene and runs to El Paso. It would include Midland (my hometown), Odessa, Pecos, Ft. Stockton, Alpine, et al. Those of you from Texas see where I'm going. I guess we could include Lubbock. And I've always considered Amarillo the "true" North Texas. LOL! I can see why some think Laredo is "West Texas". They're the dems who control the RGV, Austin and Houston. They tell themselves that Laredo is "West Texas" so they think they're getting votes from a part of the state (the "real" West Texas") that even Tony Sanchez was too scared to show up in during the election. Ann Richards hated us. So did Mark White. The only time pols show up is if they are Rick Perry, Pres. Bush (remember he came to Midland the day before he went to D.C. for his swearing in to celebrate the victory in his hometown)or anyone who has an "R" after their name. The DUmmies don't dare show their heads out there.

Southwest TX is a distinct unit and is usually defined as the territory from the Pecos River to El Paso. That includes Del Rio, Alpine, and the Big Bend country. It think it is the areas from south of Midland-Odessa to El Paso. It would include such towns as Monahans, which has sand dunes.
