SACRAMENTO (AP) _ A bill that would allow undocumented immigrants to apply for financial aid at California community colleges was approved by the state Assembly Thursday.
The bill, by Sen. Martha Escutia, D-Norwalk, would direct the board of governors to establish a process so students without legal immigration status can apply to have tuition waived.
It would require that the student attended high school in California for at least three years, obtained a diploma or an equivalent degree and, if the student isn't in the state legally, has applied to become a legal resident.
Opponents said the bill followed in the footsteps of the recently approved bill to allow illegal immigrants to get drivers licenses.
``Now we want to give financial aid in community colleges to illegal aliens?'' said Assemblyman Dennis Mountjoy, R-Monrovia. ``Members, what is the matter with you?''
But supporters said the bill would help those students become educated members of the state's work force, helping the economy.
``We can continue to bury our heads in the sand and ignore it, but this helps kids who are in this state, who have graduated from high school, who we hope will go on to college, or learn a trade,'' said Assemblyman Joe Nation, D-San Rafael. ``It's the right thing to do politically, it's the right thing to do socially, and it's the right thing to do economically as well.''
The bill was approved on a 43-27 vote, returning to the Senate for approval of Assembly amendments.

Bustamonte won't denounce MEChA. Rather, the state assembly just promoted funding for future MEChiastas.
More of the Democrat Party's scorched earth anti-recall campaign.
If the ACLU and the 9th circuit delays the recall vote, the likes of these beneficiaries will be happy to continue the looting by putting Bustamonte in.

Arnold voted for Prop 187True, but from what I've been hearing lately, Arnold has declared Prop 187 a dead issue and he is distancing himself from it.
The bottom line is that there has been so much waffling, parsing, PC-speak, and flip-flopping coming from the Schwarzenegger camp, that it is impossible to know what his true convictions are--and even more impossible to guess at what he might do as Governor.
Contrast that to McClintock, who's message is always clear, concise, and unwavering. He is one of the most outspoken leaders against illegal immigration.

There either really stupid, ignorant, or just diabolical. Diabolical is the correct choice.

The California state legislature is run by Mexico That's it in a nutshell. They are taking full advantage of Gray Davis' panic that he's getting thrown out. He will sign it just like he signed the drivers' license bill.
I could just scream, and I intend to make telephone calls to each guilty party in Sacramento as soon as I find out the phone numbers. My granddaughter works TWO jobs to support herself while going to community college, and illegal aliens will have FREE tuition???? This is outrageous and unfair, and we should all be calling everyone who will listen.
