A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

~ ~ ~Where Were You?~ ~ ~
Where were you when the sky rained down liquid fire and lost souls; when the air billowed poison, when sirens wailed and cries echoed urgently and painfully? Never forget....
Where were you when, with a thunderous roar, monsters of steel and glass crumbled to the earth belching black gaseous clouds as thick and as dark as satan's cloak? Never forget....
Where were you when eerie silence fell like winter's first snowfall; when voices and spirits were stilled forever in unadorned and involuntary graves? Never forget....
Where were you when satan's children laughed and danced in streets of candy while families mourned eternal emptiness, longing for just one last chance to say, "I love you?" Never forget....

Dansy, did you write that? It's beautiful. Where was I? I was taking care of my 83(at that time)year old aunt and uncle. Dorothy and I were going to the store or the doctors and I had turned on FOX to catch the news while she was finishing up.
Several things stand out about that morning, it was a beautiful day - you couldn't have asked for better. Taxman had been down that weekend for my birthday and had told me that he had an appointment that morning with one of the congress critters, so he would have been on his way to DC proper about the time that the Pentagon was hit.
And my aunt sitting there, stunned, repeatedly saying this can't be happening in my country. Uncle Joe, who had fought in the South Pacific during WWII, his disbelief in what was happening. We were glued to the tv all day. Needless to say, we didn't leave the house. It took forever to get through to Taxman, all of the lines into and out of DC were tied up.
I had no way to get to a computer and find out what was happening to friends around the country, especially on the east coast. I am on Paltalk a good bit, in the American Conservative, Patriots of the Republic and FReeper Hangout. It's horrible to be cut off from your friends when something like this is going on. No one to talk to about it and no way to let your emotions free themselves.
I remember the awful feeling of terror, fear, disbelief, shock, horror, horrible, horrible hatred for the people who perpetrated this on my country. There were people, that day, from every corner of the globe in that building or its environs.
Although we lost the most people and it was on our soil, we weren't the only ones to suffer that day.
FR lost FReepers, people that we only knew by their screen names. FReepers lost loved ones, friends, neighbors - there wasn't a family in this country that didn't know or have someone connected with the four flights that ended so tragically.
Dansy, everyone - I had heard the stories of how my Momma and people from her generation felt after Pearl Harbour. I never thought I would experience anything like it or that my son would ever seen anything like it. I pray we never see anything like it again.

I was at home, watching a movie. I was unemployed then.
My Mom called me and asked what I was watching, she told m to turn on the news.
She told me it was both towers, she wasn't sure yet, she wanted my opinion, and I said it: It was terrorism.
I called my friend in Washington State, woke him up, he is the pastor of a local church. I grew up with him here. He was happy to hear my voice again on the phone, but sounded like a teenager again when he turned on the tv, not a Pastor. My language was much worse than his.
I called a friend in Australia, a pen pal. Told her to turn on the tv and the news. She was hurt, she had a friend who worked in the WTC. Fortunately, he was late for work that day.
I didnt cry that day. I was furious, and totally frustrated. I could not fight back, and my country was under attack.
I couldnt fight back.
That is what makes me cry today.

LETTER TO A FRIEND - Reflections
Letter to a Friend | 20 SEPT 2001 | Dixie Sass
Posted on 09/28/2001 2:21 PM EDT by dixie sass
This letter was written to a friend on Paltalk, who is also a Freeper. It was written after the joint-session of Congress and has been read several time in the various paltalk rooms. This is what I wrote:
Dear Jean,
Oh how I wish I could have been there with y'all tonight to hear President Bush. I would be willing to wager that there was absolute silence.
So proud, Jean, that this man is President. He has the "Intestinal Fortitude" that is needed in this horrific time. I think that this man, and his wife, have been tried by fire twice. Each time he has stood up to the challenge and brought Americans through. I, as an American, am so proud of him.
There are so many things that stick in my mind, mental pictures of the horror, but the one thing above all else that I will carry with me always is this:
When President and Mrs. Bush walked into the Cathedral, you could see the anger and pain on their faces - his particularly. It was such a gray rainy day befitting the somberness of the occasion. I watched the President gradually relax, the tension seemed to just melt away. I watched his wife, mother and father looking at him with pride and love as they listened to the service and then watched him speak. I watched the sky behind the Cathedral change from a gray day to one filled with bright sunlight and blue skies as the service progressed.
Someone on Fox, earlier in the week, had said they needed to watch for symbollism in how people responded. It wasn't the people they should have watched.
I believe that the Lord, our Father in heaven gave all of us a sign last Friday. How each person interperts it is up to them, but for me, I saw it as a blessing. I hope the terrorists saw it. I hope that they saw it as a blessing on America. That this is truly one NATION UNDER GOD and that Americans love their country and no matter what our petty differences are on a day-to-day basis, we are One Nation Under God, now and forever...

Letters, for the most part are a personal thing between the sender and the receiver. Thanks to Rancher Jean, she has allowed it to be shared both on Paltalk and here on Free Republic. I have never made a copy of a letter to a friend before, but because I wanted the memory to stay fresh and crisp in my mind, I did this time. GOD BLESS AMERICA.

I understand from the Michael Graham show (local talk show after Rush), that there will be a protest in Washington tomorrow by the peaceniks. Will we counter protest? Thank you for the compliment.

I wasn't in the Paltalk room when you read this letter, so I'm especially glad you posted it.
You asked about anti-war protests in Washington D.C. tomorrow. This link is to an incredibly informative post by Hugh Akston. This is to the first of three threads. I think reply #33 is an excellent addition. It's long but, IMO, a "must" read.

I was walking through the parking lot at work and saw one of my co-workers with the hood up on his van. I asked, 'What's up?', figuring he was having more trouble with the van. He looked over at me with a strange look on his face and said, '2 planes just hit the World Trade Center' (it was about 9:20). I said, 'What?' and he repeated it.
I walked into our office (a small office within a larger processing center) thinking that maybe he meant the planes had collided and then crashed into one of the buildings. No one in our area had a radio set up, but ASAVet had access to the Internet in his office and came out and gave us updates until someone got a radio up (can't remember who, was it you Bob?).There were the reports that bombs were found in D.C.,and then the Pentagon got hit.
ASAVet came out at one point and said that there was a report that one of the buildings had collapsed. I said to him, 'you mean the top part where the plane hit, right?', but he said he didn't know. It was just so unfathomable that the WHOLE building could collapse like it did. There was a TV on in one of the far breakrooms of the building and people on the work floor would give us updates, and one of our guys who started in the afternoon would call with info.
Then Bob came in and told us the second building had just completely collapsed and it started sinking in.
Our Postal facility is very near the airport, and when I left that afternoon, I stood outside and just listened to the utter silence. It seemed as if the whole world had come to a halt.

Dansy, everyone - I had heard the stories of how my Momma and people from her generation felt after Pearl Harbour. I never thought I would experience anything like it or that my son would ever seen anything like it. I pray we never see anything like it again. That was the exact impression that my Mom had - her first words when I called her were that she never thought she would see anything like Pearl Harbor again. So sad for our older folks that they had to live through a horror like this - twice.
Yes, that is my verse. It is the best way I can express myself when I have such strong feelings.
Thank you for sharing your story with us (((((dixie sass)))))

GOOD MORNING EVERYBODY!
Dansy, What a beautiful writing for today. I remember two years ago, I was at work on the fifth floor of the SSA building in Baltimore. I remember being scared and shocked and unbelieving. I remember the way I felt like I was in a very vivid bad dream and I spent several weeks waiting to "wake up" and find it was a nightmare.
I'm right, it IS a nightmare that is real and really happened, for as long as I can remember I, like many others, just took it for granted all out freedoms and security of being surrounded by two oceans and the misguided belief that "It couldn't happen here" That is the mentality that led to folks like myself to not be prepared both mentally and physically. Now, two years later, I'm still shocked and angry and I'll never forget what those cowards did, never forget those innocent souls condemmed to a death they did not deserve.
These people did nothing wrong that day. They were doing what they have always done, that is, go to work to provide for thier families. I will never for get thier lives were cut short and the dreams they had fore themselves and for thier families will not be fullfilled because of these senseless and faceless cowards. I made up my mind to live for them!
I am also grateful we have a strong and brave President who knows how to be a leader. He did not cowar somewhere in some mountian hideout or cry crocodile tears while doing nothing like others I know of.
He took action and took measures to see that we were secure and then he went after the cowards who did this.
Another thing I want to say to all who have a birthday today, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Never feel like your birthday (s) were ruined. Remember that good things (like your birth) happened on 9/11.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL
GOD BLESS THE FAMILIES OF THOSE WHO DIED THAT DAY TWO YEARS AGO
GOS BLESS PRESIDENT BUSH AND VICE-PRESIDENT CHENEY
GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS
