I was walking through the parking lot at work and saw one of my co-workers with the hood up on his van. I asked, 'What's up?', figuring he was having more trouble with the van. He looked over at me with a strange look on his face and said, '2 planes just hit the World Trade Center' (it was about 9:20). I said, 'What?' and he repeated it.

I walked into our office (a small office within a larger processing center) thinking that maybe he meant the planes had collided and then crashed into one of the buildings. No one in our area had a radio set up, but ASAVet had access to the Internet in his office and came out and gave us updates until someone got a radio up (can't remember who, was it you Bob?).There were the reports that bombs were found in D.C.,and then the Pentagon got hit.
ASAVet came out at one point and said that there was a report that one of the buildings had collapsed. I said to him, 'you mean the top part where the plane hit, right?', but he said he didn't know. It was just so unfathomable that the WHOLE building could collapse like it did. There was a TV on in one of the far breakrooms of the building and people on the work floor would give us updates, and one of our guys who started in the afternoon would call with info.
Then Bob came in and told us the second building had just completely collapsed and it started sinking in.
Our Postal facility is very near the airport, and when I left that afternoon, I stood outside and just listened to the utter silence. It seemed as if the whole world had come to a halt.

I'll bet the silence was deafening. It's strange that when we are near something noisy (like an airport, or the RR tracks), we don't hear it after a while. But, when the noise stops, it's almost startling.

Thank you for your story (((((gracex7)))))
