Democratic Party: On the Ropes?
Excerpt:They had high hopes for holding the White House in 2000 and, two years later, for holding the Senate and recouping some losses in the House. Instead, they are watching the Republicans make history: Not only does the GOP control both houses of Congress and the White House for the first time in half a century, but the party regained the Senate and gained ground in the House in an off-year election, even though midterm contests tend to hurt the party holding the White House.
At the state level, 2002 ended a half-century in which Democrats held more legislative seats than their GOP rivals. Democrats went from controlling one more state legislature than Republicans to controlling five fewer than Republicans (12 have divided control). And although the GOP's hold on governors' mansions has slipped, Republicans still occupy most of them -- 26 to the Democrats' 24.
Democrats can't get over the feeling that this is all one gigantic mistake. They can't help but remember that Al Gore won the popular vote in the 2000 presidential contest and that, with a swing of a measly 94,000 votes out of more than 75.7 million cast nationally last November, Democrats would now control both the House and the Senate.

President Bush on the Road to Victory ...
YEEEEEEEEEEE! HAAAAAAAAAA!
Boy, can I ever identify!
There I was in 1962 - baby girl born 30 September, and then the Cuban Missile Crisis with Bernie in SAC at Ellsworth AFB, where your son is; 12 on 12 off duty for a month.
Arriving home from my 5-week post-natal checkup, the base was on the phone telling Bernie he was being sent to Fairbanks, Alaska.
The night after Christmas Day, we headed out in a Ford station wagon - boys 7 & 8; 2-month old baby in a bassinet; two dogs, one a German shepherd; all manner of provisions.
Drove the Alaska Highway in the dead of winter, going up and around the top of the Rocky Mountains through Canada with temperatures 40 below zero. (2,500 miles from Rapid City)
In Dawson Creek, British Columbia, we had New Year's Day Dinner at a hotel right beside the Zero Mile Marker of the Alaska Highway proper, having joined two other couples and their children.
They were heading to Alaska, too, and convoyed with us as far as Tok Junction in Alaska.
It was a Most Memorable Journey, angels riding shotgun and clearing the way for us, handling three potential serious crises on the way!
Tell your son he is getting off easy, and will be going down to warmth and shoveling sand rather than snow!!
Life will be much easier for them, and less costly than in South Dakota, especially with clothing requirements less. No soggy snowsuits and frostbite worries with the babies -just wet bathing suits and sunburn ones.
Prayers for all your sons, ladtx, and you and The Missus.
A dancing elephant!?
Too Kewl!!!
But it's still morning out your way!
Soooo......
