Get series about HEALTHY, and LOW CARB FOOD

This, and future threads, will attempt to answer some of your questions and requests regarding HEALTHY food in general, and LOW CARB, LOW CALORIE diets and recipes in particular.

With my background as a Master Chef, and Natural Foods Sexonutritionist, aka SexyChef  (/dreamer) Bwhahaahahahahah, it affords me a wonderful vantage point to assist in creating this forum, where everyone can contribute, exchange ideas and voice their valuable opinions. Moderating in no way qualifies me as an authority on this, or any other subject.*..heheheh ..that has never inhibited me before.. blush

There are many other FReepers, (you know who you are.. LOL) on this amazing site that have a great deal more detailed knowledge and information on specific topics, that will no doubt emerge. Sooooooo, lets get started..

...By pinging me to every recipe (rather than just every thread), are you suggesting that I'm supposed to eat all of today's recipes in one day?

...a..er...yeah.. :)

There are about 80g of carbs in a typical pasta dish. This is according to checking out some pasta dishes served up by the Olive Garden restaurant chain. Of course, the pasta companies play tricks with that number, by saying a "serving size" is one cup. Yeah, like somebody's going to sit and eat just one cup of pasta! Those must be the same people who take a month to eat a cheesecake because they are cutting those razor thin slices that constitute a "serving size!"

But there are probably many more carbs than that in a typical pasta meal because usually people have bread with it and a rich dessert afterwards. I was one who used to wrap spaghetti up in slices of bread and shove it in my mouth!

Back to beer, my tastes run similar to yours. I drink Pilsner Urquell regularly and I like the darker beers in cooler weather. If you like Guiness, you might be surprised to know that it has less carbs than most beers. I forget the exact amount but I think it was 5 or 6 grams per serving.

... I have lost my ping list because of a computer crash..Grrr, and be assured that your name will be expunged immediately upon your request...

This reaises several questions. If you can't find your list how do you know I am on it and if I am on it, but you don't know it, how are you going to take me off if I ask which I am not and the next question is, where is the hidden chamber of pingdom and to whom do I apply to dump all the toads together and ping them to my special brand of humor which seems to be similar to your own...chew, chew indeed.

Anyway, that said, I would faint without my carb intake especially around late afternoon if I've forgotten to eat lunch. Course if I just drink lunch, I'm good till dinner as long as I don't need to drive home.

Of course, the pasta companies play tricks with that number, by saying a "serving size" is one cup. Yeah, like somebody's going to sit and eat just one cup of pasta!

I do that on the extremely rare occasions when I have pasta. I treat it as a side dish, and have just a small amount. I do this because I love some of the pasta sauces, and want to indulge occasionally. I no longer put away an entire plate of pasta that is typically served at a restaurant. Just waaaaaay too many carbs. Normally, I don't eat pasta any more, but just an occasional (very) small serving. I tried some of the low carb pasta, but I really don't like it. I also bought some low carb bread, and can't stand that either. I don't drink beer, but I like wine. If I remember correctly, a 5 oz. glass of red wine has around 5 grams of carbs. ?? I'd have to look it up again.

I tell ya, I used to like Guinness quite a bit, but the last few sixers I've bought have been just atrocious -- much more carbonated than I remember, with a bad aftertaste. So I checked out the label and it read "bottled in Canada." What's up with that? Didn't it used to be bottled in Ireland?

I know virtually nothing about diets and such, and have never had a weight problem. But I'm always interested staying healthy -- blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. Assuming neither weight or diabetes is an issue, is there a reason I should watch my carbs? Do they supposedly raise cholesterol (in large amounts)? I must admit that I do eat my fair share of pasta (with garlic bread), and I usually put in healthy amounts of olive oil and garlic, and wash it down with red wine.
