Freepers call to action re. Terri Schindler-Schiavo. Make a complaint against Judge Greer:
Various ^ | August 28, 2003

Freepers, we may be able to help Terri:

I made some phone calls today and have the ULTIMATE PHONE CALL for registering a Complaint against Judge Greer. I can't reveal my sources but this is the phone number for a few pay grades above J. Greer.

Call the: Judicial Qualifications Commission at

#1-850-488-1581. I am complaining to them tomorrow that J. Greer isn't God, that he's been in the husband's corner since Day One, he doesn't care a wit about Terri's parents or her husband's attempt at medical neglect, and I'd like to know if Greer can be recalled or impeached.

HE SHOULD HAVE OR COULD HAVE HONORED GOV. BUSH'S REQUEST TO ASSIGN A GUARDIAN AD LITEM to represent Terri's interest instead of once again, taking the side of the husband. Judge Greer is from the Sixth Circuit Court, Pinellas County.

Oh, and ping everybody you can think of.

"..do a separate thread asking people to call this phone number FV provided. This could get a guardian appointed if the judge is tossed off the case for BIAS."

8 Jeb Bush intervenes for Schindler-Schiavo -   WND | 8/26

Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has asked a judge to delay setting a date for removal of a feeding tube sustaining the life of a brain-disabled woman, Terri Schindler-Schiavo.

In a letter, Bush asked Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Judge George W. Greer yesterday to keep her alive until a court-appointed guardian can "independently investigate the circumstances of this case and provide the court with an unbiased view that considers the best interests of Mrs. Schiavo."

(WND article excerpts, cont.:) "On Friday, the Florida Supreme Court refused to intervene in the case, clearing the way for a Sept. 11 hearing in which Greer would set a date for removal of the feeding tube.

Terri's parents, Bob and Mary Schindler of Gulf Port, Fla., have been locked in a decade-long legal battle with their son-in-law over the care and custody of their daughter, who suffered massive brain damage when she collapsed at her home 13 years ago under unexplained circumstances at the age of 26.

***The bitter dispute over Terri's lack of care became a major euthanasia battle five years ago when her husband Michael Schiavo petitioned the court for permission to have her feeding tube removed, claiming she is in a persistent vegetative state and would not want to be kept alive "artificially." The Schindlers and a number of doctors and therapists believe she could be rehabilitated, but the courts have consistently sided with Schiavo and his lawyer, right-to-die advocate George Felos.

Florida Judge Rejects Governor's Bid to Help Terri Schiavo
By Jeff Johnson
CNSNews.com Congressional Bureau Chief
August 27, 2003

Capitol Hill (CNSNews.com) - Florida Circuit Judge George Greer Tuesday rejected a plea from Governor Jeb Bush to appoint a guardian ad litem to represent the best interests of Terri Schindler Schiavo, a 39-year-old disabled woman who suffered a brain injury in 1990 under questionable circumstances. Bush had intervened Monday after receiving 27,000 email messages asking for his help on Terri's behalf.

"I read [Gov. Bush's letter] because it came from the governor and I respect his position," Greer told the Tampa Tribune. "Beyond that, it is going in the file."

As CNSNews.com previously reported, Bush wrote Greer Monday asking him not to remove the disabled woman's feeding tube until a new guardian ad litem could "independently investigate" her condition. In the letter, Bush referenced the "fine balance between Mrs. Schiavo's right to privacy and her right to life," which Bush noted are co-equal under the Constitution.

"To err on one side is to prolong her existence, perhaps against her wishes and to continue the debate," Bush wrote. "To err on the other is an irrevocable act that affords no remediation."

But Greer told the Associated Press that he no longer has a choice in the matter.

"Frankly, I think I'm operating under a mandate from the 2nd District Court of Appeals," Greer said, "and frankly I don't think I can stray from that mandate."

In that same interview, however, the judge contradicted his own assessment of the limitation on his authority by stating that he was "not inclined" to appoint a guardian ad litem.

Michael Schiavo called Gov. Bush's intervention on behalf of Terri "crazy."

"The governor has deliberately twisted the facts in this case in an apparent effort to kowtow to his right-to-life political supporters," Schiavo told Tampa Tribune reporter David Sommer. "This has nothing to do with him. He should stay out of it."

Schiavo - who, for five years, has been seeking judicial approval to end his wife's life by denying her nutrition and hydration - also accused Terri's parents of manipulating their Catholic faith to keep their daughter alive.

"I believe in God and so did (?) Terri," Schiavo said, speaking of his still living wife in the past tense, "but they are out to push it on people... suddenly they are on a religious kick."

Judge refuses motion for hearing to set 'death date'

Greer also denied a motion Tuesday to hold an immediate hearing to set a date for the removal of Terri's nutrition and hydration tube. The hearing will be held, as previously announced, on Sept. 11. At that hearing, Greer will also rule on whether Schiavo may legally prohibit Terri's priest from visiting her.

Schiavo's attorney, George Felos, had also petitioned the court Monday to prohibit doctors from caring for Terri's current fever, labored breathing, vomiting, diarrhea and a "substantial infection."

"Given the imminence of the ward's death, further treatment (other than comfort care) for the ward's infection and other medical problems is unnecessary, unwarranted, inappropriate and futile," Felos said in an emergency motion, adding that Terri, "should be put back in hospice and receive comfort care and die in a peaceful setting."

Greer denied that motion, as well.

Michael Schiavo is using "privacy" as an excuse for denying Terri every contact from the outside world, even flowers. "One sign of the case's nastiness is the Schindlers' complaint that Schiavo limits their visits with their daughter. They also say he has refused to allow doctors to examine her, refused her antibiotics and needed dental work, refused to replace a broken wheelchair so she could be taken outdoors and refused the delivery of flowers from a friend to her room on her birthday."

"Her teeth are fine; she doesn't eat," Michael Schiavo said. "Why take her to a gynecologist? She was supposed to die months ago. I don't want her room filled with flowers from strangers or right-to-life activists. Even though she is vegetative she has a right to privacy."

I thought Gov Bush very eloquently made his case here, in this part:

To err on one side is to prolong her existence, perhaps against her wishes, and continue the debate. To err on the other is an irrevocable act that affords no remediation.

That is one thing that floors me .. This Judge should have long ago appointed an independent Guardian Ad Litem and not left her husband as her sole guardian .. especially since there are questions about her husband with abuse and the fractured bones that were reveled in xrays of Terry.

Everything I have read .. this Judge seems hell bent on having her killed

I know that Mr. Schiavo has tried to ban Terri's mother and family and priest from seeing her.

But, I don't know how a court could prevent doctors from ordering therapy, speach therapy (which is often actually swallowing therapy) and most especially oral nutrition.

Judge Greer has been with the husband since day one. A guardian ad litem would have been fair for Terri and her parents. Her parents love her but they are treated as the enemy. I'm ashamed this is happening in Pinellas County.

Judge Greer will not appoint a guardian ad litem. I have phone numbers from the phone book for the Clearwater Courthouse and all the guardianship phone numbers. He husband held a presser today and was very flippant about Jeb's letter and called the emailers a "bunch of right to lifers."

Hubby is looking a little nervous but with a pal like Judge Greer who is no Judge Moore, Terri has until the September 11 hearing to decide the date her starvation begins.

Here are the phone numbers: courthouse - 727-464-3000, guardianship numbers: 727-582-7563, 727-582-7771, and 727-464-8700. We can at least call as friends of Terri and voice our concerns.

I wonder whether Terri's parents and their supporters are planning an Action if it becomes necessary?

I would LOVE to see that.

What connections does Judge Greer have to the Hospice where he has sent Terri? It seems that the sister of one of Greer's fellow judges sits on the board of that Hospice, which may have some ethical lapses of its own (diverting non-profit funds to for-profit division)

Am I the only one smelling something perhaps even larger than we all initially thought?

Some further investigative reporting just may be in order here. Let me know what I can do. I am at work now, but can devote all night to online research if need be. I'll be checking in quite often during the day today.

Let's keep this bumped and keep those prayers rising like incense to the Lord.

New story just on e-mail:
by Steven Ertelt
LifeNews.com Editor
August 28, 2003

Clearwater, FL (LifeNews.com) -- The tenuous and stressful situation in the Terri Schiavo case may be getting the best of Michael Schiavo.

In reacting to a letter written by Florida Governor Jeb Bush (R) in an effort to appoint an independent guardian for Terri, Michael lambasted Bush for playing politics with Terri's life.

"The governor has deliberately twisted the facts in this case in an apparent effort to kowtow to his 'right-to-life' political supporters,'' Michael Schiavo told the Tampa Tribune. "This has nothing to do with him. He should stay out of it.''

However, the verbal tirade didn't end there.

Michael also accused Terri's parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, of engaging in religious hypocrisy and using religion to raise money.

"Suddenly, they are on the religious kick. They never went to church a day in their lives,'' Michael said. "I believe in God and so did Terri, but they are out to push it on people.''

Michael says the Schindlers orchestrated a campaign to send e-mail to the governor through a Web site that also raises money from right-to-life supporters. He accused the Schindlers of using his wife's Catholic faith to their own ends.

Bob Schindler says their Catholic beliefs and long-standing. He said Michael is forgetting he and his wife sent Terri and her siblings to Catholic schools and that the Schiavo's wedding was performed by a priest.

"It [Michael Schiavo's comment] is really upsetting to my wife because she is a better Catholic than I am,'' he said.

The Web site has drawn a good response, Schindler said. Any donations it generates are going to family attorney Pat Anderson, who had been working for free.

Father Frank Pavone, the director of Priests for Life, told LifeNews.com that the values needed to address Terri's case properly have already been "pushed" on people.

"Catholic Faith in this case requires understanding that this case is about more than Catholic Faith," Pavone explained.

"It's about the dominion of God over our lives, our laws, our courts, our attorneys, and our judges. If Michael Schiavo is worried that some people are trying to impose God's authority on the situation, I have news for him: It's already imposed."

And my comment: Why aren't the Bishops calling on people to ACT? (Admittedly, you don't want to start a major physical resistance until it's necessary and useful, which would be when the actual execution starts) but still ... this is why 6 million Jews and others died in the Holocaust, because everyone just followed the *law*. What does it take for people to realize the authorities would have THEM killed, too, just as easily?

Did I see on a post that Michael Schiavo will collect $9 million or $7 million when the feeding tube is pulled? Earlier, I had thought that he was in line for $750,000. From where are the extra millions coming?

Can someone post a picture of Michael Schiavo on the forum?

I haven't seen those numbers. $750,000 is the one usually mentioned. It's hard to believe those millions - no insurance company would sell a life policy under the conditions since the (accident, assault, incident, whatever).

And I doubt one would have been sold in those amounts even when she was healthy. Benefits out of proportion to the financial situation of the insured are an invitation to fraud or murder. For example, my policy is for $250,000 - roughly the cost of investments that would provide income to pay for housekeeping, education, child care, etc., until my children are grown. I doubt an insurer would write me an individual policy even for $1,000,000 - although you can sometimes get larger policies with employers' group coverage. Companies don't want their insureds to be worth more dead than alive!

His picture's been with some of the articles ... ugly mug!

My email to the 2nd DCA. Everyone can email the 2nd cda and ask that their email be placed in the Amicus Brief's file supporting their position. I am playing hard ball today.

To 2nd DCA: Please place this in the file of the Amicus Brief by Ms. Andersen supporting the parties that she represents in it.

I am pleased that Ms. Andersen has filed an Amicus Brief on behalf of Terri Schiavo-Schindler and her loving parents.

There is so much reasonable doubt in this matter but one thing is certain. Terri Schiavo-Schindler is a disabled woman who is an inconvenience to her husband who has a live-in girlfrield and a child. We must have a higher standard than that before we start offing the vulnerable. We have higher standards for death row inmates.

I am for Governor Bush's suggestion that Terri be put under the control of a guardian ad litem, an independent party who will not SHOW THE BIAS THAT JUDGE GREER has engaged in.

There is arising a belief that Michael Schiavo may have been responsible in the first place for battering his wife. If he harmed her which may have led to her present physical condition, he would have the court order her starvation than be facing a possible charge of attempted murder, domestic violence or manslaughter. Getting a court order to have Terri killed would only erase Terri. It wouldn't erase growing concerns that husband Michael Schiavo was a wife batterer and should be held accountable for that. If Terri is a burden to him, to you and to Judge Greer, BURDEN is a subjective term. Surely, Terri would never be a burden to her parents but they haven't been given a chance in the kangaroo court.

The local and national news media is covering this story and they're just begining. The spotlight is on all of the good old boys and activist judges together who are on the same page as Judge Greer. He blames you but you were only agreeing with his lame order. I blame all of you.

You aren't facing starving in a matter of weeks but Terri is. What kind of society starves a human being to death who hasn't been proven beyond a reasonable doubt that she's in a vegetative state? We have seen the videotapes and if I was as responsive as she still is, I would not anyone starving me to death. If she experiences "life" on a level science has yet to understand, we don't have a right to kill her. She can see and she can breathe. Are you going to pull Christopher Reeve's life support next? No, and why not? Because he's a celebrity. Terri is becoming a celebrity in her own right. She deserves proper medical care and loving parents. She does not deserve a death sentence.

Err on Terri's side, not on the husband's side. If we err on the husband's side, Terri dies. Please tell the 2nd DCA that they are all spineless and uncaring jurists in cahootz with the spineless J. Greer. How dare you find against the vulnerable? You are violating the Constitution and numerous of God's laws. Why isn't TERRI SCHIAVO guaranteed life and liberty? You have no answer because you are making up the rule of law as you go along.

PLEASE PUT THIS IN THE AMICUS BRIEF FILE RE: TERRI SCHIAVO as evidence of what I view as misconduct by Florida's Circuit Civil and 2nd DCA for bias and finding against a disabled woman. This is my opinion but it is shared by many Floridians.

Good point re: hospice. You know as soon as Judge Greer ordered the execution of Terri, hubby placed her in a hospice instead of a nursing home. He wants her rubbed off by hospice staffers who are in the business of letting people go. Well, I'm sure Terri is ready.

This is the kind of thing that needs to get to the media about possible conflict of interest between J. Greer and Hospice of Suncoast or Suncoast Hospice. A conflict of interest would mean that Judge Greer would have to withdraw from the case. That's the rule of law. So, how do we connect Greer to the Suncoast Hospice beyond that it's part of his job to refer people there? That would be the smoking gun.

There's the outside chance that like when Elian Gonzalez was kidnapped by Janet Reno Easter Sunday, they will start starving Terri without telling the public to avoid demonstrations. I wouldn't put it past this Judge to attempt to keep the start date confidential "Terri's wishes, you know," as per her loving husband (sarcasm).

This is a good point, in fact Glenn Beck had said the feeding tube would be removed Sunday, Aug. 31. Therefore, she would be dead by September 11. The national media won't touch this story, nor will be established conservative columnists. Could this be that most conservatives now support euthanasia too if there is money involved?

I visited sptimes.com to email columnist mary jo. She thought Jeb should mind his own business and her column on that is on her page there. I checked her archives and found this interesting column about the killing of a pig by a shock jock.

© St. Petersburg Times published February 28, 2002

Like it or not, and I don't, but Bubba's probably going to walk.

On Wednesday, the defense in his animal cruelty trial called two experts. One was a Gainesville veterinarian. The other was a former state game official.

Both testified that the method used to kill that now celebrated pig on Bubba's radio show last year was routine and used regularly by hunters. The pig's throat was slit, after the animal was castrated.

But for the radio shock jock to be convicted, state law requires that the animal's death be cruel, or the result of the infliction of unnecessary pain. The experts saw nothing cruel or unnecessary about what happened.

The prosecutor, Darrell Dirks, failed to budge the experts. He produced no witnesses to contradict them.

The silence was loud and discouraging. For even if the means of killing the pig were routine, the death itself was needless.

Plenty of other means exist to boost radio ratings.

Who knows this better than the pathetic man himself?

Bubba testified Wednesday about other stunts he's pulled. He has one gig called Drink Your Pee, and another dedicated to men talking about their penis problems, and still another called Milk Challenge, in which people in his studio drink so much milk that they end up vomiting.

You could argue that these promotions, as Bubba calls them, are as awful, if not worse, than what happened to the pig. He said with all seriousness that these things are done to educate and inform the public. When Dirks asked what the educational objective was in killing the pig, Bubba answered that he wanted to show his listeners where their food came from.

"So," said Dirks with unconcealed sarcasm, "you're going to explain that pork comes from pigs?"

"Not necessarily," Bubba replied.

But he was not all bob-and-weave on the stand.

He acknowledged that the animal was castrated so that one of the other men participating in the stunt could eat the testicles raw.

That is not a misprint.

At the end of Bubba's testimony, the prosecutor asked him if he enjoyed the killing of the pig, which took place in the radio station parking lot while he was in his radio studio. "I didn't do it," Bubba said. "I broadcast it. I really have no feelings either way."

That's no misprint either. He apparently believes he was not responsible for what happened to that animal. The jurors are expected to deliberate today. I would hate to be one of them. It would be too frustrating.

The law has no room to take into account the outrage Bubba's conduct creates. It has no room to consider his motives, the drive for ratings and revenue, and the cynical -- that was the word he used -- way his show operates. His goal, he said, is to keep his audience "riveted," no matter what.

Lawyers would tell me never to guess at a verdict. Juries are unpredictable, except in this regard -- they take their job very seriously. I'm hanging what little hope I have on their seriousness of purpose.

Bubba and his three co-defendants are charged with felony animal cruelty, but the jury could reason its way into finding them guilty of misdemeanor animal cruelty instead. It bars the unnecessary death of an animal, and if ever there was such a case, this one is it.

I have heard from a lot of readers -- and Bubba listeners -- who call this prosecution a waste. I disagree now, and will continue to even if he is acquitted.

This hasn't just been a trial involving animal cruelty. It's a test of community standards, what we in Tampa Bay will tolerate, and what we will not.

This "Mary Jo" is the FL voter of the future. Maybe that's why the Republican majoity there is paralyzed with fear to act. They are afraid that the liberal "Mary Jos" will rise up and slit their throats, just like the men did to the poor pig. So they try to be nice to the liberals, thinking the liberals will let them stay in office if they don't rock too many boats.

Got news for ya. "Mary Jo" is many of the voters now, especially in the liberal strongholds of Tampa and Miami.

As for "paralyzed with fear", I don't know what TV show you're watching, but it's on the wrong channel. Yeah, they sure tried to get uppity in 2000 and 2002, and on the streets there were a few occasions where I almost had to crack some skulls. If they hadn't retreated, I would have.

Looks like 2004 will be more of the same. I'm looking forward to it. And so are a lot of other Republicans I know.

FYI: your post may get deleted because of "throat..." language. Just so you know if it disappears. The admin mods are just doing their job.

Well, I will have to watch the language more closely. I don't think I have ever had a post deleted, but I may have and not known it. "Slitting a throat" is a pretty strong expression, isn't it? Even if it was referring to a pig

What a great letter Kimmie! I hope that Governor Bush keeps the pressure on Judge Greer.

Yeah, and the word terrorize used as a verb can get deleted too. I emailed malone her pig column and told her she had no core values yada yada yada.

Well I don't know if you'll get flamed, but there are two sides to every story. Her bone scan results made me suspicious. Why didn't Terri's husband just divorce her years ago if he doesn't want to deal with the whole situation. That way he could marry his live in gf. Why is he so insistent that she die?
