Today is "Flood the Zone Friday" -- Get Active Against Leftist Trolls Now!
Flood the Zone Fridays ^
Posted on 08/22/2003 7:06:42 AM PDT by Marcus Alonzo Hanna
As we speak, left-wing protesters are busy hammering the new Bush Action Center site and using it to write anti-Bush letters to the editor. Are we Freepers going to let this stand and let the Left dominate online activism? No way!
Fight back by writing your own letter to the editor right now
Start by cutting and pasting the trolls' talking points bolded below into the letter and alerting your local papers in big bold lettering that any letter they receive that sounds like this is nothing more than a coordinated astroturf spam campaign. And remind people that these people have a history of harrassing editors and reporters who don't tow their line.
Webmasters & Bloggers! Go here to copy and paste the code for a ZIP code lookup for your site that takes you directly to write a letter.
Let's go!

"Flood the Zone" Friday is Here
Posted by Ezra Klein
Well, we're rapidly approaching "Flood the Zone" Friday, and, as promised, here's all the information needed to make your letters powerful, persuasive, and printable.
How to write a good letter to the editor
First, let's go over some information on how to write a good letter to the editor. The biggest thing is don't be insulting, don't collapse into partisan hysteria. Be calm and factual -- your viewpoint is right, you don't have to scream. Remember, the people who are going to be reading these are not the Freepers or the webmasters at Bush's website -- they are reporters and ombudsmen.
Second, keep it short, 250 words or so. No one is going to print your manifesto, and we want these letters printed.
Third, include your information. Newspapers won't print unless they can confirm that you're real -- put in your whole name, address, telephone number, city and state.
Follow all that and we should be good.
Talking Points
Now, on to the meat. Tomorrow is Fiscal Irresponsibility Friday, so we're going to be highlighting the incredible fiscal mismanagement of the Bush Administration -- it's his record, we're merely publicizing it. You shouldn't try and get all the points below into your letter, just choose three or so, and just make sure it flows well.
- George Bush has presided over the first job-losing presidency since Herbert Hoover. During his tenure, we have lost more than 3 million jobs. However, George Bush clearly doesn't see this as much of a problem because, when given the opportunity to create about 75 new jobs, he outsourced them to India.
- The projected deficit for this year is upwards of $455 billion (source: OMB). Remember the surpluses we had under Clinton? The Cato Institute, hardly a liberal outfit, calls George Bush "the mother of all big spenders". In fact, George W. Bush's father said that "there is no practice more dangerous than that of borrowing money". Why hasn't his son listened?
- The unemployment rate has passed 6%, with 8.8 million Americans out of work. To compare, under Bush, the economy has lost an average of 69,000 jobs a month. Under Clinton, the economy gained an average of 239,000 jobs per month. Which record do you prefer?
- The Fed has begun wondering about deflation, something not spoken of since the Great Depression.
- Bush has done nothing to help the situation. His tax cuts have so bankrupted the Government that long term interest rates went up 1% since June, a shift to be expected when record deficits are being run, but one that is unwanted in a recovery.
- Further, his Tax Cuts, which have been packaged as stimulative, do nothing to help the economy in the short term. They are set to kick in primarily in the future, and they target the wealthy and those with stocks, the classes of people least likely to quickly spend the money.
- The States are running record deficits. In normal times, the Federal Government would aid them, but this time, only an emergency $20 billion (to be distributed among all 50) was included in the budget, and only because the Democrats insisted on it.
How do you send?
After your masterpieces are complete, mosey on over to George Bush's Action Center. At the top, you'll be asked to put in your zip code. Do so. Click "Get Info", and a list of newspapers in your area will appear. Choose one (there's enough people we don't need everyone to hit all of them) newspaper (keep in mind that we don't just want our letters in the biggest newspapers so think about picking a smaller paper) , then scroll down, put your letter and all your information in (remember to put ALL the information we mentioned above in the body of the letter or many newspapers will not print it), scroll down and hit "Send Now". You're done!

You've done some excellent work here. Bookmarked and action taken. I'm a big believer in letters to the editor and write often, although the liberal newspaper I target don't publish very often.

This is the talking points for the "attack Bush" crowd. I hope they stay on this foolish track. Their facts are there, yet incomplete. I do not understand how they intend to resonate with the swing voter. The overtone of every point is "Bush is Bad". But what is their plan?
These idiots have learned how to fight as partisans. They have learned how to defeat their "opponent". They do not have a clue as how to win. Obscurity is their destination.

However, George Bush clearly doesn't see this as much of a problem because,Oh you gotta love that. I didn't know Bush was responsible for the actions of the Democratic Governor of my state who has raised taxes on business, threatened to take them over and raised the minimum wage. What marooooons. This is going to be fun.

Funny that they don't mention two other points of Bush's gross fiscal irresponsibility:
$15 Billion for AIDS in Africa
$400-$800 Billion prescription drug plan.

Bush loves big government and spending money on things that the federal government shouldn't be.
Pointing that out doesn't make me a leftist.

On the part where the Cato Institute also savaged him (ballooning deficits), I do.
And don't blame those on the war- the war didn't cost $455 billion this year alone.
Those are Bush's fault.
I also don't like Bush for his praise of affirmative action, unwillingness to address illegal immigration, unwillingness to actually fight for his policies or nominees, his support for the assault weapons ban, and his enduring love of wasting taxpayer money by giving it to Africa or socializing medicine (prescription drugs, anyone?) and so forth.
Bush has done a whole slew of things that right-leaning people should be furious at him for.

***Here's a letter that can be copied and pasted and sent directly to the newspapers and periodicals in your area!***

August 22, 2003
To whom it may concern:
I am writing to warn you that there is a coordinated attempt to have Democratic Party talking points published in a number of the nations newspapers and magazines this week. While every citizen has a right to their own opinion, merely copying and pasting talking points is a waste of everybodys time and detracts from the goal of the Letters to the Editor section: to express PERSONAL, INDIVIDUAL opinions.
Please be on the lookout for any Letters to the Editor that contain the following talking points. If published, they will hardly be unique and will be mere duplicates of letters in many other newspapers. Here are the talking points that are being circulated by NotGeniuses.com. It is also worthwhile to note that, as documented by the Washington Post in this article (
http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn?pagename=article&node=&contentId=A47852-2003Jul25¬Found=true), people who send such Letters to the Editor have a history of acting violently towards and abusing journalists and editors. Thank you for your time.

I also don't like Bush for his praise of affirmative action...Now you're being dishonest. His administration filed briefs in support of those who were fighting the affirmative action rules of Michigan. The President said, ""I strongly support diversity of all kinds, including racial diversity in higher education." Then he said, "But the method used by the University of Michigan to achieve this important goal is fundamentally flawed. At their core, the Michigan policies amount to a quota system that unfairly rewards or penalizes prospective students based solely on their race." So to say that he "praise[d]" affirmative action is flat out wrong.

Did you see his press release after Grutter v. Bollinger was decided, singing the praises of the decision?Yes! And just what was the decision? The SCOTUS decided that Michigan could keep its admission policies in place for the graduate school. I didn't like that part of the decision. But they also decided that the point system that the university used for its undergraduates was wrong. Isn't that was the President said when he spoke before the decision?
The decision was not exactly what he (or we) wanted. However, the decision did strike down quotas and points. Since we have separation of powers, why not "praise" a partial victory since you can't tell the SC what to decide?

So, want to praise Casey v. Planned Parenthood, then? Because, after all, it was a partial victory over Roe v. Wade in that it reformulated the constitutional test for the permissibility of abortion restrictions.
Praising Grutter is still praising racism.
