Nine counties in PA are reporting w/o power. Do you know which counties? Please keep us advised if you can. Thanks.

In my view this is a terrorist attack until proven otherwise.I don't agree - many of us in the utility industry have expected this type of event for the last few years - ever since someone in Washington decided that each utility's wholly-owned portion of the transmission grid should become a common carrier for everyone else's electricity. Reliability isn't a goal any longer - its not profitable.

Hear tell the New York Times will contract the printing out to Hustler Mag

I heard that too.
I would think Hannity's call screener would have told him what the call was about, and he sounded confused.

CNN said they talked to some homeland security official, who said, that they don't think it's a terrorist attack, because they didn't get a warning, but they didn't rule it out, but not to worry. Very helpful! (/sarcasm)>>>>>
Oh we're all safe since HDS now recieves *warnings* from the terrorists *before* they attack in the USA !!

Ann Arbor, at dark it must be time to go to the Arb with a bottle of wine and that co-ed friendly down the hallBe careful. We were pretty sure our son was conceived in the Arb. Didn't need no blackout, either. : )

There's more than one "grid," but the one affected technically reaches as far west as Saskatchewan and Oklahoma, and as far south as Florida. What likely happened is that the power company command centers further out saw what was starting to happen in the Northeast and yanked themselves off the grid before the cascading failures got to them.

They probably have information from the utilities describing the event that leads them to think it was equipment failure follwed by designed shutdown to protect the system. Why do they so quickly rule out terrorism? In this case, I think it is because they can. And to stop the rampant speculation, panic, etc.
