Prayer Request for A Tiny Baby (Update in post #12850)
Myself | 8-11-03 | Brad's Gramma

Posted on 08/11/2003 12:57:30 PM PDT by Brad’s Gramma

If you will, please remember this tiny baby in your prayers. He’s the grandson of a very dear friend of mine. Logan was born on July 25. His due date was in October, making his mommy 26 weeks along, being born 3 months and 3 days early.

Logan was 1 lb 9.4 oz when he was born and is now weighing, as of this morning, 1 lb. 8.3 oz. The little guy is now 12-1/2” long.

He’s a real trooper and is fighting with all his little body can fight with. His Grandma said that he’s starting to recognize his mommy when she comes in the room and hears her voice. She said he tries so hard to open his eyes, and starts kicking his feet.

I asked my friend if there were any specific prayers, other than the obvious…and this is her reply…” A prayer of thanks for the miracle called "Logan.”

On a personal note, I’ve read the emails daily from my friend. I’ve known her for years, I’ve heard her talking about her family for years…but I’ve got to tell you that I’m SO impressed with how her children have all banded together in support. What an incredibly wonderful and loving family.

Father God, we lift up Logan’s little body to you. We pray that you can strengthen him hourly, daily, weekly, until he’s grown enough to go home with his precious family. We ask for guidance for the doctors and nurses who are caring for him. We ask for strength for his parents and extended family. Thank you so much for the gift of life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Fellow Freepers…….I bring you Logan!!!

Heavenly Father,

You see our tears and you hear our prayers for this precious little one. We have all come to love him as our own. We don't want to lose him Father. Please be merciful and find favor in our pleadings for a miracle for Logan. He's fought so hard and endured so much in such a short time. Please touch him and heal him now and bring comfort to all who are hurting through this night. We walk by Faith and we trust in you Father. Please receive our requests on behalf of Logan and act on them with mercy, in Jesus name. Thank you Father. Amen

It's pouring rain as I sit here in New Jersey and read this disappointing news about little Logan. He has fought so hard all this time and seemed to respond so well to the care he has been given. Let's hope the antibiotics will help his little lungs. The rain is not supposed to let up and it's grim and gray, but all I need to brighten my day is to hear that he wakes and smiles for his Mommy.

Dear TC:

I jumped on the Logan thread a few weeks ago with some prayers and advice for Logan's parents about "life with a preemie." As the mother of a preemie, myself, I saw my own little girl endure some of Logan's battles, although she was much further along and that helped considerably.

My heart aches to hear about this latest development. He's done an awful lot of fighting to come home with his parents, but this does not bode well. Lung development, the body's ability to process/regulate fluids, and blood/oxygen content are critical in preemies. He's having trouble with all three right now. Good God, help this baby, please!

He's going to need lots of rest, so let him sleep as much as possible. He's doing a lot of fighting internally, that's where his body needs to focus his strength. If family members visit, remind them not to stroke Logan's limbs, but to simply place their hands on him. Stroking is very stimulating to babies, whereas "laying of hands" is comforting and reassuring.

Also, remind them to softly sing/hum instead of talking to him. Sounds stupid, I know, but soft humming will allow Logan to hear them and STILL sleep. The brain processes these sounds differently, as shown by work with children who suffer from autism.

Now, for a rough medical explanation of "not processing the carbons out of his system"...when we breath, we take in oxygen and expell carbons (waste). This is closely monitored on preemies, whose lungs are underdeveloped. If he has an infection or fluid build up, it will prevent the normal transfer of nourishing oxygen in/ bad waste out; hence, carbons build up in his blood instead of oxygen. Not enough oxygen means his body has to work harder to feed his limbs, organs, and brain. The short short, he has a serious lung infection. Lack of oxygen and build up of waste in his system will sap his strength, which accounts for his need to sleep and unresponsiveness.

Prayers, prayers, prayers to God to lift Logan up and heal him. Please, Jesus, restore him with your healing grace and let him be a walking testament to your miraculous love!

Prayers for Logans parents, that they have continued strength. I know that if they could, they would change places with Logan so that he would not have to go through it. Let them know that Logan knows how much they love him!

Prayers for the family, that they have continued strength, too, to be supportive of Logan's parents and shower them all with love.

And prayers that 10 years from now, we will be hearing from Logan's parents about his progress in school, about his successes on the field of sports, and how he loves the new bike he got for his birthday!

Keeping you all in my heart and in my prayers.

He'll be on the mornin' prayer list at church when I go later this morning.

I'm not freting yet but I will redouble my efforts.

Kisses for Termite, and hugs and tears for Nana, Popa, Mommy and Daddy.

Thanks for the information. I know that he's just snoozing well. (I'm sorta the same way... I don't react too kindly to general anesesthetic...)

Logan, I've got to make my morning walk, but I'll be back to check on you. small kisses...

Thanks TC. I am looking for an update this AM. I am sure you will let us know when you hear something. I wish someone who had gone through this themselves was around too , to let us know what all of those medical terms are. You are doing a great job. Thanks TC... I will check again throughout the day to see if you get a chance to post again.

Please give Beth my love and tell her I am still praying.... I wont stop. I know there are many others here who are doing the same. ooops I am getting that blurry screen syndrom here. Gotta go.

I just got up; getting ready for work; I will keep Logan in my prayers and check back this evening.

I've seen lots of babies in this condition recover and do well after the crisis, so people PLEASE do not lose hope.

Thanks, TexasCowboy.

Excerpt from post #2,770 ...

"Beth just called....
Doesn't sound good at all.

The baby's blood gases are in the 100's..... which is not good. She was told that that means he's not processing the carbons out of his system. Now what does that mean? I have no idea.

His little lungs don't look good. They have started him on 2 antibiotics...... pneumonia?.... not sure ;(

They are doing a CRP test for the protein levels. This takes the 24, 48 & 72 hour period like the CBS does. His CBC level is at 1, with 3 being the worst.

< snip >

Folks, little Logan needs our prayers tonight.
