Dear TC:

I jumped on the Logan thread a few weeks ago with some prayers and advice for Logan's parents about "life with a preemie." As the mother of a preemie, myself, I saw my own little girl endure some of Logan's battles, although she was much further along and that helped considerably.

My heart aches to hear about this latest development. He's done an awful lot of fighting to come home with his parents, but this does not bode well. Lung development, the body's ability to process/regulate fluids, and blood/oxygen content are critical in preemies. He's having trouble with all three right now. Good God, help this baby, please!

He's going to need lots of rest, so let him sleep as much as possible. He's doing a lot of fighting internally, that's where his body needs to focus his strength. If family members visit, remind them not to stroke Logan's limbs, but to simply place their hands on him. Stroking is very stimulating to babies, whereas "laying of hands" is comforting and reassuring.

Also, remind them to softly sing/hum instead of talking to him. Sounds stupid, I know, but soft humming will allow Logan to hear them and STILL sleep. The brain processes these sounds differently, as shown by work with children who suffer from autism.

Now, for a rough medical explanation of "not processing the carbons out of his system"...when we breath, we take in oxygen and expell carbons (waste). This is closely monitored on preemies, whose lungs are underdeveloped. If he has an infection or fluid build up, it will prevent the normal transfer of nourishing oxygen in/ bad waste out; hence, carbons build up in his blood instead of oxygen. Not enough oxygen means his body has to work harder to feed his limbs, organs, and brain. The short short, he has a serious lung infection. Lack of oxygen and build up of waste in his system will sap his strength, which accounts for his need to sleep and unresponsiveness.

Prayers, prayers, prayers to God to lift Logan up and heal him. Please, Jesus, restore him with your healing grace and let him be a walking testament to your miraculous love!

Prayers for Logans parents, that they have continued strength. I know that if they could, they would change places with Logan so that he would not have to go through it. Let them know that Logan knows how much they love him!

Prayers for the family, that they have continued strength, too, to be supportive of Logan's parents and shower them all with love.

And prayers that 10 years from now, we will be hearing from Logan's parents about his progress in school, about his successes on the field of sports, and how he loves the new bike he got for his birthday!

Keeping you all in my heart and in my prayers.

Thanks for the information. I know that he's just snoozing well. (I'm sorta the same way... I don't react too kindly to general anesesthetic...)

Logan, I've got to make my morning walk, but I'll be back to check on you. small kisses...

Thank you so much for your note.

I'll be talking to Nana in a short while.
I'll pass on everything you suggested.

May God bless you.

Thanks from me for the explantion. Jeez.. My heart is breaking over here. I tried to walk this morning, and I felt like someone was kicking me in the stomach. I am amazed that people like you , and Beth and Bud, are able to make it through this ordeal.

I hope your preemie is well. I pray for Beth, Bud and Nana, and all of my freeper friends who may be feeling down right now. I am not giving up on Logan. I know you aren't either.

God please hear our prayers. It is so important.

I have never felt so personaly invloved in what was happening in a stranger's life as I do right now. I can only say I feel like Nana , Bud , Beth ,Logan , TC and Brad's Gramma are my family right now. I really feel like I am praying for my family. On one hand it is so strange, on the other hand it is as if I have always known these people. I guess the world can be very small sometimes. I hope it is small enough for Logan to hear me tell him , don't give up. We need you here.
