Hypocrisy lives in NY! (kind of like saying it's dark at night) You said

As far as us "being special" by living in NY through the 9/11 terrorism, dude, you are one sicko to even put the two together!!

Apparently you forgot that it was you, not me but you who stated in your Post #244

Live through the events of 9/11 and every day thereafter and maybe you will not be so brave from where you come from.

Generally I have nothing but contempt for the majority of New Yorkers for their continual reelection of some of the most liberal politicians in the country. If y'all weren't a bunch of flaming left wing slave wannabes you wouldn't be represented by Hitlary, upChuckie, Rangel, Nadler etc. And let us not forget David Dinkins. Then when some crybaby like you posts this crap about 9/11 and then calls me a sicko for bringing it up, I know my contempt is justified.

Sorry, I forgot. Islam is a religion of peace. It was Christians and Jews who flew those planes into the WTC, blew themselves up repeatedly in Israel, killed our Marines in Beirut, blew up the Kobar towers, bombed the USS Cole, bombed two US embassies, killed the Israeli athletes in Berlin, repeatedly committed acts of aggression against Israel, declared a Holy War against the United States, etc, etc, ad nauseum.

Excuse me if, when a possible act of terrorism is committed, I immediately posit the very real possibility that a Muslim was involved.

Yes we can. I didn't mean to make such a point of this except to use it as another example of the media using not totally accurate terms when it comes to guns which illustrates their lack of knowledge of them.

Sorry, I forgot. Islam is a religion of peace.

Retire the sarcasm. The Left believes whites are always wrong, people of color always right. True conservatves claim to be individualists, and recognize that there's good and bad in all people. Hence, to always suspect one group (such as Muslims) is Leftist thinking in conservative clothes.

It gets to tiring to remind that you can find millions of peaceful folk in every religion, and violent folk too.

Excuse me if, when a possible act of terrorism is committed, I immediately posit the very real possibility that a Muslim was involved.

There were many "very real possibilities" when the story first broke, and it turned out to be a personal incident, as a great many acts of violence are.

Please, leave the stereotyping to the Left. Conservatives at least claim to believe in individualism and Martin Luther King's "contect of character" standard.

Yep, the news here is reporting that he had previously attempted to beat his lover in the head with a hammer at one point. It also looks like he was HIV positive as he was taking AZT and other drugs commonly associated with the cocktail. Perhaps he was just angry at the world and wanted to go out shooting and then.......suicide by cop. I am glad to see that the officer who took him out was given the gold shield of a detective yesterday. Being able to make that shot in that environment (pandemonium) says a lot about that officer's ability. They'd better make his story required reading in the academy.

I know I'm weighing in on this thread a few days after the fact, and I'm only up to reading posts in the 200's as I skim through. But, I stopped here to post to you and let you know I agree with the sentiment of Nepoleon Solo. I have been reading some slightly crass and some crass to a greater degree...statements made in this thread while two HUMAN lives were hanging on by a thread. Judgements were being made left and right about the Councilman as well. It is normal to speculate about what was actually going on of course, but moral judgements were flying high in the midst of this. Are these posters really do superior to be able to do this? I know I'm not. I'm not even judging those who posted in this fashion, just saddened by it.

I do not live in Manhattan but I do live in NYC, Queens County. Councilman Davis was not my councilman but I understand that he was a decent and caring man, something to be respected regardless of some of his perhaps misguided ideas. I am sure he's done some good in his work as well. Like I said, I do not live in Manhattan but this shooting hit VERY CLOSE to home for me. My son works for a city councilman, had in fact spoken with Councilman Davis as the entered City Hall together that day (his blurred photo is on the front page of the NY Post on the surveilance photo...he is the man facing the camera and facing Davis...as he and Davis approach each other to greet one another)in a suit seen between two other people, not in suits. I THANK GOD that my son, who had been in the chambers moments before the gunfire broke out, had just stepped out of the room to retrieve something needed from the office of the councilman for whom he works. I believe it was the grace of God that kept him from being in harm's way and from wittnessing this horrendous incident. This shooting has grieved me deeply. I am NOT in fear for my son's safety because I know security is the best there, and he has a better chance of being a target outside on the street or in the subway than in that building. But, even though I am not fearful I am sorrowful and disheartened that such a thing has happened. Two human beings in the prime of life are no longer with us and therefore, cannot be so glib about this whole thing. This was not natural death but MURDER...and that, gives me reason for pause.

Sorry for going on so long. Thanks for reading.

Well, from what I've learned about him in the last 30 minutes, I wouldn't agree with him on anything, but this is terrible.

Prayers to his family.

I know I'm days behind in replying to this thread but I couldn't agree more. I started praying for them that day and am still doing so.

I hate to say it, but I am sure glad the shooter was not a Republican.

Sorry for the late reply to your post and this thread. Just checking in and I wanted to say I felt (and feel) the same way. Republican's need all the GOOD publicity they can get here in NYC!

He voted against it, along with the Republicans. (the property tax hike)

My apologies for this considerably late reply. Not only did Davis vote against the party line on this vote, with the republicans as you stated, but he took heat for it. Gifford Miller "punished" the four dems who did not vote along party lines on this issue by removing them from committee appointments. Davis was a tough cookie though...he sued Miller. I don't know if the case ever got anywhere or not. If nothing else, it seems Davis was his own man not to be manipulated by the party machine.

Bloomberg relaxed security at city hall where the press, councilmen and their "home boy" guests do not have to go through the metal detectors....Bloomberg is a very strange man.

Actually, according to my son who does access City Hall on a regular basis because of work that takes him there, it was Councilmembers who were able to enter without going through the metal detectors and Davis said Askew was with him thereby causing Askew to avoid the detector as well, but no one else. He said even staff workers for the council members must past through the metal detectors even though they show their ID showing they work for the city council. So, reporters and others must pass through as well. Just for clarification.

They stated on the news that all reporters, councilmen and their guests do not have to go through metal dectors. As a matter of fact, in the Post 2 days ago, the story read that the murderer bypassed the metal detector only 3 weeks ago with the councilman and that is where and when he got the idea to sneak in a gun to murder him. He know that if he accompanied the councilman, he would not have to go through the dector and could bring in his gun as he did just that.

The metal detectors were installed after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that felled the World Trade Center a few blocks away in Lower Manhattan, but the mayor, council members and their guests were routinely waved past the checkpoint, officials said.

But less than a day later, one reporter carrying a camera was seen skirting around the magnetometer as he attempted to rush into the chamber before the mayor's arrival. The policeman stationed in front of the machine appeared focused on Bloomberg's arrival a few feet behind the reporter, and did not appear to notice the apparent breach of security.

City Hall cops said some Council members griped when their guests were made to go through the metal detectors, while Council members said their guests were routinely allowed to bypass the security measures.

"Have I ever waved my staff or someone I know through rather than wait? I'm sure I have," said Councilwoman Eva Moskowitz (D-Manhattan).
