http://edition.cnn.com/2003/US/Northeast/07/24/ny.shooting/ The metal detectors were installed after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that felled the World Trade Center a few blocks away in Lower Manhattan, but the mayor, council members and their guests were routinely waved past the checkpoint, officials said.
But less than a day later, one reporter carrying a camera was seen skirting around the magnetometer as he attempted to rush into the chamber before the mayor's arrival. The policeman stationed in front of the machine appeared focused on Bloomberg's arrival a few feet behind the reporter, and did not appear to notice the apparent breach of security.

"Have I ever waved my staff or someone I know through rather than wait? I'm sure I have," said Councilwoman Eva Moskowitz (D-Manhattan).
Coleus I know you and I would have taken your word for it with you just relating it as you did. I didn't need links for proof, but thanks anyway!
My son has occassional business so while he is there on fairly regular basis it is not by any means a daily basis so I guess he didn't have occassion to see what you heart reported. Good to know, glad it's been changed. Sorry it was at such a cost.
