WE'VE ALL BEEN HOSED BY THE N.O.W. GANG: Why I Feel Sorry for Kobe

Posted on 07/18/2003 6:47:40 PM PDT by Cinnamon Girl

It's the whole "NO MEANS NO" brainwashing Gen X Y and Z have been receiving since we were in kindergarten. "NO MEANS NO" no matter what position you are in, or how you got yourself there.

Here's what I think happened: this girl went up to Kobe's bedroom in the hotel, like she said. She started having intimate contact with Kobe, they ended up in bed, and while they were in the middle of the act, the girl starts freaking out that she's only 19, Kobe isn't wearing protection, and she doesn't want to get pregnant. So she starts telling him to stop. But at that point, any man in that situation doesn't have a lot of concentration going on in his brain, and Kobe naturally wanted to complete the act, so maybe he restrained her a little.

Afterward, the girl was so upset, she ran to the police or whatever, knowing what she has been taught her whole life: "NO MEANS NO" even if you went up to a guy's room at night, even if you made out with him, even if you got in bed with him and starting doing stuff. "NO MEANS NO!!!"

At what point do we as a society come back to our senses and stop telling our girls that they can do all kinds of seductive things and be in all kinds of private, intimate situations with guys and if the guy starts making moves on her and she decides she doesn't like it all of a sudden, it's all the guy's fault and he needs to go to prison for life?

And it doesn't seem likely that a guy who doesn't have a reputation for hitting or abusing women, would suddenly become violent to the point of rape.

Kobe's reputation is cr@p. Just a few days ago y'all were spewing out that he was a loving family man that 'would never do something like that'.

Why, he even took his meals alone in his hotel room. I think we can strike 'loving' and 'alone' from the above.

He was being a jerk and will lose his endorsements in the millions of dollars. His wife and he may yet divorce. Especially if he goes in debt due to income loss.
The only thing saving him in this case is it that the woman is a mental patient being she tried to over-dose in a suicide only 2 months ago.

There was going to be a civil suit because he is wealthy, famous and could be held hostage in court. Now that it is known she is unstable despite what a gem her friends say she is, it would be ridiculous to find this even going to trial IMO!

Someone who tries to commit suicide in recent times would be considered a person who over reacts.

I don't doubt that she could pass a lie detector and that Kobe could as well.

I think she changed her mind after and made up an acceptable mental scenario and is mentally ill enough to believe a fantasy as reality due to her mental state and her possible drug usage.

By the way, is she a libertarian?

You have no source for her being a mental patient.

I think that Kobe made up that consensual sex thing to defend against the rape charge.

Future headlines?

Nike profits soar due to Kobe's new "Street Cred". Resigned to new contract!

Can you say BS? How about this scenario: your less than lucid grandma (or in my case, mother)is attacked. Because of her mental condition, was she actually attacked? Does her mention condition nullify the criminal act forced upon her?

Someone who tries to commit suicide in recent times would be considered a person who over reacts.

More BS. Do you have a doctorate in behavioral psychology? See my response to your first "question". I think she changed her mind after and made up an acceptable mental scenario and is mentally ill enough to believe a fantasy as reality due to her mental state and her possible drug usage.

BS again. Someone that unstable is not going to the cops, or to the hospital. Her parents made her go. Btw, I have a mother, an ex husband, and a neighbor who exhibit hysteric personalities. Drug use? Prove it! By the way, is she a libertarian?

Btw, I've voted Libertarian in the past. Your point?

I have sat back and read all of the messages people have put out there. I too am a Lakers fan, but I also have a daughter. I would hope and pray that 10-20 years from now, I would have taught my daughter the best that I possibly can. Now with saying that, I mean to the terms of letting my daughter know how guys are. Do not EVER put yourself in that type of situation. I don't know what happened, but also I don't think she should've went to his room. What on this earth are you doin up there after work. GO HOME!!! Come back tomorrow, and get his autograph. At this point I'm on the side that he did not rape her. I do believe that they both wanted the sex. I have been in a situation where a woman (believe it or not) that I was dating and head over hills in love with, caused a very uncomfortable situation. We were both in agreement for the things that we were doing, and she flipped the script that caused us to stop (and this wasn't our first time being together neither). 30 minutes later we finished the act. I thought about that when this incident came about. It's bad becasue I knew this person. Now I'm and average everyday Joe, and I'm not trying to brag (so please don't think that), but I can get sex at any time from numerous women, where I'm at. I'm not rich, and I don't consider myself handsome. Lets look at the 12th man on any NBA bench, and I'll tell you that guy is getting sex thrown at him left and right. Now lets look at Kobe Bryant. Mega all-star, millions, handsome dude, and plays for champs. Do you think he's going to go rape a 19 year old?!?!?! Yeah it wsa a dumb play by Kobe, but that's between him and God. The only time I will judge Kobe is if:
A: He is found without a shadow of doubt guilty
B: If he isn't helping the Lakers win.

I think it is hardly likely that he would rape.
For a while I was entertaining ANY possibility because of this woman's supposes stellar reputation.
Once that went to hell, it was over.

He has never had that kind of record in the past regarding ANY kind of violence. But I do think it was plenty dumb and low class anyway to participate in adultery with this woman.

She is as unstable as can be it seems, so she has NO CREDIBILITY. I am NOT a Kobe fan by the way, I don't even wear Nike or drink Sprite.

She went to an emergency ward for attempted suicide by am overdose of drugs. She has mental problems and perhaps a drug problem as well.

When you are a married man, the only thing other girls are good for is trouble. And lots of it.

Nominated for quote of the day.

You have a guy with no previous raping charges or violence on record who has charges placed on him by a woman who tried to be an American idol, failed, at some point recently was unstable enough to try and kill herself with drugs. She has a recent record of being mental to the point of attempting to kill herself.

There is no foundation to proceed, the girl is a mess known to over react to situations RECENTLY!!!

Kobe was bankable as a family Jordan or Tiger type guy. That is gone. He isn't going to get more lucrative contracts as an adulterer.
He may run as a Democrat though in some major city with that history in the future.

I think Libertarian when I heard she almost killed herself with a drug over-dose.

I do understand they are for being more back to original intent and all, but we sure have a large pack of drug obsessed ones at FR that give a perception of Libertarians being mostly drug worshipers. I don't think the drug oriented ones do the party any good.
I totally understand there are far more sensible ones around and I wish they would post more.

She is as unstable as can be it seems

This Link:

MSNBC...Abrams Report...Friends of Kobe's alleged victim speak on her behalf

has the transcript of Dan Abrams talking with the accuser's friends.

Look at this question from Abrams.

..excerpt..

ABRAMS: Janelle Medina, a high school classmate says, "I've known her for eight years. I don't believe she's telling the truth. She always had to be the center of attention. She wants a spotlight on her all the time. She told me once that she'd do anything it took to get famous, and I think this is just a publicity stunt for her, something for her to get money and for her to get fame." I don't know if you know her, but you heard what she said. What do you make of that statement?
