WE'VE ALL BEEN HOSED BY THE N.O.W. GANG: Why I Feel Sorry for Kobe
Posted on 07/18/2003 6:47:40 PM PDT by Cinnamon Girl
It's the whole "NO MEANS NO" brainwashing Gen X Y and Z have been receiving since we were in kindergarten. "NO MEANS NO" no matter what position you are in, or how you got yourself there.
Here's what I think happened: this girl went up to Kobe's bedroom in the hotel, like she said. She started having intimate contact with Kobe, they ended up in bed, and while they were in the middle of the act, the girl starts freaking out that she's only 19, Kobe isn't wearing protection, and she doesn't want to get pregnant. So she starts telling him to stop. But at that point, any man in that situation doesn't have a lot of concentration going on in his brain, and Kobe naturally wanted to complete the act, so maybe he restrained her a little.
Afterward, the girl was so upset, she ran to the police or whatever, knowing what she has been taught her whole life: "NO MEANS NO" even if you went up to a guy's room at night, even if you made out with him, even if you got in bed with him and starting doing stuff. "NO MEANS NO!!!"
At what point do we as a society come back to our senses and stop telling our girls that they can do all kinds of seductive things and be in all kinds of private, intimate situations with guys and if the guy starts making moves on her and she decides she doesn't like it all of a sudden, it's all the guy's fault and he needs to go to prison for life?

I KNOW I don't know the details of the case AT ALL, but I think this is an angle that should be considered. And it doesn't seem likely that a guy who doesn't have a reputation for hitting or abusing women, would suddenly become violent to the point of rape. Rape can't just be "he finished the act and I didn't want him to." Rape is a disgusting violent act and needs to be taken seriously.

True. Women should not play sex games. During sex guys have their moral inhibitions lowered so if its something women don't want they should say to a guy there'll be no sex before things heat up. Talk about common sense in a relationship.

Absolutely. I really meant to suggest this as a possible scenario. I don't know what happened, obviously.

That's which side of the fence I am on too. I've done rape counseling and have seen BOTH sides of this coin. I expect this to be a brutal trial.

I think she went up after sniffing a tube of glue.
Got frisky and had later regrets and though a nice civil lawsuit would make her millions.
Being she pressed charges, the civil stuff will have to wait until criminal charges are handled.

Could be. Did she go voluntarily and then consent to sex with him or not? That's for a jury to decide.

I agree. Well, not with the glue part but...
There are many scenarios I can think of. Maybe after the act, he was cold and dismissive and she was expecting an exchange of phone numbers, etc and she went psycho. Women can be rather psychotic.
I just don't see a rich, sucessful, decent looking guy raping some twit from room service. All of a sudden, out of the blue. Now, if 15 women come forward and say he raped them I might think differently. But I have not heard anything like this.

These four words say it all:
Kobe isn't wearing protectionNo one's a bigger Laker/Kobe fan than I am. But his gross stupidity, not NOW, got him where he is today.
Though it's probably happened many, many times, I can think of one other Laker who boinked a woman who was not his wife AND DIDN'T USE A CONDOM!
Does the name "Magic" ring a bell?
Kobe no doubt knows Magic's story as well as anyone.
Yet he didn't use a condom?!
Dumb...real dumb, and the reason why he's where he is today.

When Kobe said it was adultery, between him and God... i lost it. was too clintonesque for me. made me immediately believe he is dirt and guilty.

Ya' know, if a guy says the stuff you are saying here he is thought to be a huge chauvinist.
At least by the same people that teach "no means no".

Kobe is an idiot for jeopardizing his career and accompanying wealth. I agree. When will celebrities realize that the only reason they have girls crawling all over them is because they want to latch on to some of their money (and perhaps a little fame as well)? Maybe this girl is nothing but a cunning gold-digger. Or perhaps she was legitimately abused. Either way, Kobe was stupid for bringing her into his hotel room. He's a married man, after all. When you are a married man, the only thing other girls are good for is trouble. And lots of it.
