New TV Outrage - A New Low For TV:
YOUR IMMEDIATE HELP NEEDED TO DRIVE THIS GROSSLY INDECENT GARBAGE OFF TV AND OUT OF OUR HOMES...
First, we apologize to you in advance for asking you to read the filth below. WARNING: it's EXTREMELY offensive.
DON'T LET ANY CHILDREN READ THIS E-MAIL!
But millions of children were already exposed to it on TV, and you need to know how totally sick some TV shows marketed to children have become.
Here's what millions of impressionable youngsters across America who tuned in to the new Fox-TV show, "Keen Eddie," were subjected to last Tuesday evening (June 10) --
The plot involved a case about black market traffic in horse semen. Detective Eddie hired a prostitute (whose ad in the newspaper read, "Forty Year Old Filthy Slut. Will Do Anything") to have sex with a horse!!!
FILE YOUR FORMAL INDECENCY COMPLAINT AGAINST THE JUNE 10, 2003 EPISODE OF FOX-TV's "KEEN EDDIE" WITH THE FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION (FCC) NOW!
This is what you letter to the FCC will look like:
To: Federal Communications Commission
(FCC), Washington, D.C.
Michael K. Powell, Chairman
Kathleen Q. Abernathy
Jonathan S. Adelstein
Michael J. Copps
Kevin J. Martin
RE: OFFICIAL FCC TELEVISION INDECENCY COMPLAINT:
This is a formal COMPLAINT of indecency on broadcast television. My complaint concerns the PROGRAM ON:
NETWORK: FOX-TV
PROGRAM TITLE: "Keen Eddie"
BROADCAST DATE: June 10, 2003
BROADCAST TIME: 9:00 PM Eastern & Pacific Time, 8:00 PM Central & Mountain Time
Documentation of the indecent material on which my COMPLAINT is based is provided below. A video tape of this entire episode of "Keen Eddie" is available from the Parents Television Council. PLEASE KEEP ME INFORMED OF THE PROGRESS AND RESULTS OF YOUR INVESTIGATION INTO THIS MATTER.
COMPLAINANT believes that this material is in context and fully representative of the show's overall tone and quality.
COMPLAINANT also declares that such material is:
- Clearly indecent according to the standards of my community;
- Especially offensive because it was broadcast at an hour when millions of children were watching; and
- Because the popularity of this program with young viewers is well-documented.
The FCC should exercise its responsibility to enforce the existing law against indecency on broadcast TV between the hours of 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. (Title 18, U.S. Code, Section 1464) by levying severe sanctions against the broadcasters of this program.
PLEASE KEEP ME INFORMED OF THE PROGRESS AND RESULTS OF YOUR INVESTIGATION INTO THIS MATTER. SYNOPSIS, June 10, 2003 EPISODE OF "Keen Eddie"
The plot involved a case about black market traffic in horse semen. Detective Eddie hired a prostitute (whose ad in the newspaper read, "Forty Year Old Filthy Slut. Will Do Anything") to have sex with a horse.
When the prostitute showed up at the stable, Keen Eddie's thugs asked her to have sexual intercourse with a horse because they needed its semen.
Actual dialogue:
Prostitute: --No, that's not natural.
Thug: --------Extraction for insemination. If you look at the picture on page 45 you'll see how natural it is...
Prostitute: --Forget it!
Another Thug: --You're a 40-year old filthy slut, you'll do anything...
Prostitute: --With a human...
The prostitute finally agrees to go through with it. She goes to the stable and attempts to arouse the horse, but the horse drops dead.
She explains, "I never laid a finger on it. I lifted up my blouse, that's all
he needs to get aroused. I happen to know a little something on this subject."
CLICK HERE TO SUBMIT YOUR PROTEST TO ALL 5 FCC COMMISSIONERS A copy of this COMPLAINT will be sent in your name to Gateway, Subway, Pier 1 and Nissan as a sponsor of this program, with the following message:
I am outraged at the frightening increase in violence, sex, filth, smutty humor and coarse language on prime-time television. TV shows have been poisoned by a flood of offensive material that is helping destroy family values and seriously harming America's children and grandchildren
and SPONSORS LIKE YOU ARE PAYING FOR IT WITH YOUR ADVERTISING DOLLARS!
In particular, TV was poisoned by the June 10, 2003 episode of "Keen Eddie" aired on Fox-TV and sponsored by {name of sponsor}.
As a consumer, I am taking part in this grassroots campaign organized by the Parents Television Council (PTC) to urge you and all commercial TV Sponsors to STOP USING YOUR ADVERTISING DOLLARS TO UNDERWRITE THE FILTH AND VIOLENCE THAT IS POISONING THE MINDS OF MILLIONS OF IMPRESSIONABLE YOUNGSTERS.
I hope and expect to hear from the PTC that {name of sponsor} has adopted a new and more responsible advertising policy that will preclude sponsorship of any program containing material as indecent as that featured in the June 10 broadcast of "Keen Eddie." Sincerely,
Your Name

- Go to Complaint To FCC and sign the formal indecency complaint to the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) against this "Keen Eddie" broadcast. The FCC is supposed to enforce the federal law against broadcast TV indecency during children's viewing hours. Please help us flood the FCC with complaints about this "Keen Eddie" atrocity.
- When you sign the FCC complaint, the PTC will also generate on your behalf a WARNING TO SPONSORS addressed to four of the national advertisers whose commercial dollars paid to air this show on Fox-TV. Your warning alerts Gateway Computers, Subway Restaurants, Pier 1 and Nissan Motor Company that you are shocked at their irresponsibility in paying for such filth-filled content.
- ALSO VERY IMPORTANT -- FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY NOW SO THEY CAN JOIN THE FIGHT.
Fox-TV's descent into this moral sewer was paid for by the sponsors who bought commercial time on this show.
They include companies like Gateway, Subway, Pier 1 and Nissan -- all nationally-known brands that want to be perceived as friends of the American family.
How can they allow their commercial dollars to pay for polluting our homes with graphic filth like this? Whether these companies intended it or not, this kind of content directly violates the moral standards of decent families, especially those with young children.
When TV Sponsors advertise on shows containing content like this -- whether it's bestiality and foul language on "Keen Eddie," or the barrage of ultra-violence and references to oral sex, threesomes, masturbation and homosexuality documented by the PTC on other prime-time broadcast network shows -- we must hold the sponsors accountable for attempting to destroy our children's and grandchildren's moral values and character.
Moreover, your official indecency complaint to the FCC will support our campaign to demand that the FCC investigate, fine, and possibly pull station licenses of the Fox-TV affiliates who aired this "Keen Eddie" show.
And, hopefully, many of your friends and family will also forward this e-mail, so the FCC INDECENCY COMPLAINT and WARNING TO SPONSORS will be multiplied many, many times over!
We need you and a lot of other decent folks to take immediate action. Please don't delay.
With urgent thanks,
Parents Television Council
P.S. Go now to FCC INDECENCY COMPLAINT to file your FCC INDECENCY COMPLAINT and to generate your WARNING TO SPONSORS. This is how, TOGETHER WITH YOU, the Parents Television Council will stop the flood of filth, depravity, foul language and sick, ultra-violence on TV: overwhelming grass roots pressure brought to bear on one network, one show, and one sponsor at a time. Also-PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY NOW SO THEY CAN JOIN THE FIGHT.
Thank you.

Thanks for the info--I didn't know that. Are there any regulations at all for cable and who controls that or is it left up to the cable companies and consumers to decide what gets on? Guess that would explain the Playboy channel!?! I do think Howard Stern was on regular TV there for a time but I'm not sure if he was censored or not.

That's one of the good things about Harry Potter--many kids are reading those books. That reminds me of a button I saw once, that said, "People who read the National Enquirer are among the tiny minority of people who read." It rang so true that I even stopped sneering at my mother's Harlequin Romance novels.

I have no problem with that."

You should have a problem, as our government is mandated to enforce individual rights and rule of constitutional law.
It does not enforce the 'moral' rules of men. These rules are wisely left to our establishments of religion, freely exercised.

CJ claims that opinions on Constitutional rights and law are worth exactly what anyone else is willing to pay for them: ziltch.

-happygrl-
Nope, in effect CJ was parroting your opinion that:
- "The laws that we live by are based on morals."
- Instead of on our constitutional individual rights.
Everyone here can see that it somehow makes you happy to be a constitutional scofflaw, -- but consider this.
In the democratic 'tyranny of the majority' type state which you advocate, it is precisely your zealous minority view that would be the one most likely censored.

Yes, we will cast out all the libertines, and run the vices back underground where they belong! No, you won't. I'm 53 years old so I can remember America before the sexual revolution and I don't think you have a chance of driving anyone back underground. The younger generations have no desire to tolerate your warped view of the human sexual experience.
That's what we came to these shores to do !
No mam! Our ancestors came to this great land to be free of people who wanted to tell them how to live their lives. If you don't like what is on TV turn it off!
In the words of Robert A. Heinlein, "Freedom is telling Mrs Grundy to go fly a kite". Well happygrl, go fly a kite!

You and Tipper need to realize that human beings are not the puppets of whatever they see on TV. Human psychology is not summed up by "monkey see, monkey do".Have you ever observed 5 year-olds watching Power rangers? Perhaps what you say applies to well adjusted adults, (I assume there is some other reason for SUVs in areas where it doesn't snow and there are only paved roads. ) But my concern is not for the adults, but for the generation in its formative stages. With the level of smut on television today, it is difficult to avoid. Were lives lived in total isolation, that would be possible. However, to saturate the airwaves with thinly veiled innuendo lowers the bar for our entire culture. It makes the stash of relatively passe magazines (by today's standards) that we may have ogled in our youths commonplace. Far worse is on TV in prime time today, part of your basic cable package.
Without that restraint, we leave no standard, no mark of defined decency by which to measure social behaviour, and our society suffers as a result.
For those who think there is no agenda, I suggest you consider that if the large number of gays in the entertainment industry can desensitize the public, and make prurient behaviour mainstream, then their own outrageous lifestyles seem acceptable by comparison.

And to think that it only took Christendom a thousand years of the most grinding human misery and ignorance to bring it about.Compared to 10,000 years of even greater human misery and ignorance, 1000 years is quite a feat.....

Yep, that would be just hunky-dorie if your little world = cultural reality. What the hell is with you nipple heads???? Way too many sounding like liberals on this forum.
No doubt, I'd change the "culture" if I could - and I try when appropriate.
BUT UNTIL then I exercise a little used, apparently to some of you, concept called "parental control."
No if that does not fit your reality, shut the hell up - I don't want to hear it. Go tell some liberals about your views or something

"It is evident that your parents abdicated their responsibilities in more than this instance. I have children, who at a much younger age than sixteen, knew that human suffering and humiliation was nothing to laugh at."
Did I say we laughed at the suffering and humilation? I said we snickered at seeing full forntal nude elderly men. We were not laughing at what the movie was about, but snickering at the sight of old naked men. It was something we had obviously never seen before.
And it's interesting to see you judge my parents even though you know nothing whatsoever about them. If you had read my previous posts, the TV do's and don'ts were strictly enforced at home. They made their mistake when they thought the school wouldn't suggest a movie that wasn't age appropriate. We weren't the only teens in the school who went to the movie for our extra credit points who had the very same reaction, if not worse, than ours. And in fact, a large percentage of them went with their boyfriend or girlfriend and made out in the back instead of watching any of the movie. They had their ticket stubs as proof they went and got their extra points. Not many of them could even give you details on what the movie was about.
Innercity schools are great aren't they? /sarcasm The same teacher that gave extra points for going to that movie also played a whole Snoop Doggy Dog song unedited to the class of 15-16 yr olds to discuss cultural differences in our society. The song was loaded with cussing, violence, and references to drug use. I actually saw this teacher today.. he still teaches the same class (i was in his class 9 yrs ago) and drives a nice sports car nowadays.
And back to the topic: You can have the government regulate TV all you want, but kids are still going to come in contact with what you don't like eventually. Personally, I would rather teach my kids what's OK and what is not myself, rather than having the government teach them morality. The government isn't there to teach your kids right from wrong. That's the parents job. The government is there to enforce laws and protect the public. While the kids are minors, YOU as the parent ARE the law to them and there is no need to deprive others of TV shows they like just because you can't stop your kids from watching TV shows that you don't approve of. Most TVs have parental control options nowadays so it's very easy to make sure they can't watch this stuff in your home. I don't understand why it's so hard for people to stop their kids from watching anything they want on their TV in their own homes.
To: StupidQuestions
The Fox programmers are not trying to drive the culture but react to it.Wellllll.... It's a cycle. The programmers and the culture feed from one another.

Why is it so difficult to avoid allowing your 5 yr old to watch shows that you don't like? Do you just give them the remote and walk out of the room with no attention paid to what he turns it to? You CAN control what they watch on TV. My toddler even has a TV in his own room to watch alone and I STILL control what he watches because I am an adult and know how to work the parental control options. During the day when he's in the living room watching the main TV, I do not give him the remote. I turn it to one of the channels that is appropriate for his age and and if he doesn't like it then that's just too bad. He can find things to do other than watching TV. When he goes to bed, I get to watch the things I like, which may not be appropriate for him. My brother in law has always done the same for his kids (who are 10 and 3 i think) and has no trouble with it at all. The TV is not a babysitter. The airwaves aren't saturated with the adult stuff. With our cable system there are atleast 10 channels which never show things than young children shouldn't watch. My parents have basic cable and they have atleast 5 channels that are always OK. If my son stays with a babysitter (which is very very very rare anyway) they are told what is not allowed on TV in front of the kids. My hubby and I are the parents. We make the household rules. The household rules are followed and if broken, there is heavy punishment. That is what parents are there to do. The government is not there to do the parents job for them.
To: honeygrl
First, let me clarify something. I am not in favor of more Government. We have too much as it is.
What I would like is for the various networks to tone it down a little; even commercials (seen during afternoon cartoons) for shows seen later in the evening are questionable in content. The news is loaded with rape, murder, and mayhem. Some mainstream alternatives would be nice.
The 5 year olds were mentioned to indicate that what is on TV does affect behaviour, and often negatively, especially with children. If it didn't, you would not take steps to limit your children's viewing. (see the post I replied to)
We do not consider the TV to be a babysitter, we were not raised in front of the tube, and will not allow our grandchildren to be (at least the two who live with us).
Although we do our best, we cannot completely control everything our children see, directly or vicariously. We cannot control what other children see, which will be the topics of discussion in their age groups, regardless of how well we control their direct viewing. If you think your children have no access to the content of these programs, should they desire it, you are only fooling yourself.
I assume your children never visit other children in their homes, if your control is so thorough.
Our cable system is, unfortunately, not as varied as yours. We get 30 channels on a good day, and that leaves Disney and Nick, which are not always completely appropriate for little kids. Maybe our children are brighter, but our 3 yr old can operate the computer by herself (absolutely no porn content--on any of them), and work the TV and VCR. Thankfully, her tastes are not for sex, murder, or mayhem. Our 15 year-old hears it all, either in school, or from her friends, or sees it on their TV sets, if not ours, and is adept enough with electronic devices to sort through much of content programming. The computer she uses is limited in regards to the nature of websites she can go to, and the spam filters should eliminate most inappropriate material.
Perhaps my standards are different, I remember when God wasn't bleeped out and D@mn was, back when there were 'seven words you couldn't say on television' (old George Carlin schtick, I have heard all seven on TV since).
To: Smokin' Joe
"If you think your children have no access to the content of these programs, should they desire it, you are only fooling yourself."
Of course I know they will have access to things I don't like about the real world out there. But in my own home, I can keep it out without anyone else's help.
"I assume your children never visit other children in their homes, if your control is so thorough. "
They aren't old enough to go off with people that I wouldn't trust to attempt to undo the teaching I've done. Once they are of that age, they will know without a doubt what I deem OK and not OK and if I see they are being influenced at a certain childs home who has parents that pay no attention I don't have to let them go there. Once they are in their teens, hopefully they'll have enough common sense to not copy the fantasy world they see played out on TV. Even then I can set limits on where they go if they still don't have that common sense yet.
"Maybe our children are brighter, but our 3 yr old can operate the computer by herself (absolutely no porn content--on any of them), and work the TV and VCR. Thankfully, her tastes are not for sex, murder, or mayhem. "
With the parent control settings that most TVs have now, you don't have to just hope they don't watch those things you don't like. And our 2 1/2 yr old has his own computer as well, but it is not and will not be linked to the internet until he's in his teens and even then, it won't be in his room where he could go whereever he wanted on the internet without me noticing. And there are also parent control programs for computers as well to prevent them from accidently running across the vulgar websites. It's your home, your TV, your computer. You can ultimately control what's viewed on both the TV and the internet.

No mam! Our ancestors came to this great land to be free of people who wanted to tell them how to live their lives. No that is a libertines' fatansy.
They came here to set up a city on a hill where the ideals of Christianity could be lived out.
Sorry, but your attempt at historical revisionism won't fly.
As far as young people go, they've seen the depravity of your libertine culture and more and more of them are saying "No thanks!" and returning to Conservative values, not those of the libertines!

- "The laws that we live by are based on morals." - Instead of on our constitutional individual rights.Too simplistic for you to understand that that the laws, such that protect you from theft of your property and your life, are base on morals.
You are too simplistic to understand that the Constitution is deeply moral.

Yes, that Founding Fathers would have agreed with that, as do I (not to mention that kite-fliyin is fun).
But they would Not have agreed that freedom is the right to debase the culture and visually and aurally promote vice.
To: DAnconia55
In case you haven't noticed, you're losing. If that is the case then, it is because the cognitive abilities of those on FR is diminishing.
The posts by those supporting the FCC applying standards to the trasmittal of content over the public airways (not cable, not satellite radio, not commercial movies, not book or magazine publishing) is far more cogent, thoughtful, and well-articulated than the libertarian rants and hysterics by the libertines.
This is a skirmish on FR. The moral society will win over the depraved in the long run.
To: webber
So you go with your children everywhere they go to make sure YOU can snatch them away in case the home or place that they happen to be is showing something you don't want them to watch. RIGHT? Give me a break. That is kind of the minimum requirement for being a parent. If you can't control your own children, what makes you think you have the right or moral authority to control others?
Seriously, if you aren't with your kids the vast majority of the time, don't blame the rest of society for what happens to them.
