You and Tipper need to realize that human beings are not the puppets of whatever they see on TV. Human psychology is not summed up by "monkey see, monkey do".

Have you ever observed 5 year-olds watching Power rangers? Perhaps what you say applies to well adjusted adults, (I assume there is some other reason for SUVs in areas where it doesn't snow and there are only paved roads. ) But my concern is not for the adults, but for the generation in its formative stages. With the level of smut on television today, it is difficult to avoid. Were lives lived in total isolation, that would be possible. However, to saturate the airwaves with thinly veiled innuendo lowers the bar for our entire culture. It makes the stash of relatively passe magazines (by today's standards) that we may have ogled in our youths commonplace. Far worse is on TV in prime time today, part of your basic cable package.

Without that restraint, we leave no standard, no mark of defined decency by which to measure social behaviour, and our society suffers as a result.

For those who think there is no agenda, I suggest you consider that if the large number of gays in the entertainment industry can desensitize the public, and make prurient behaviour mainstream, then their own outrageous lifestyles seem acceptable by comparison.

Why is it so difficult to avoid allowing your 5 yr old to watch shows that you don't like? Do you just give them the remote and walk out of the room with no attention paid to what he turns it to? You CAN control what they watch on TV. My toddler even has a TV in his own room to watch alone and I STILL control what he watches because I am an adult and know how to work the parental control options. During the day when he's in the living room watching the main TV, I do not give him the remote. I turn it to one of the channels that is appropriate for his age and and if he doesn't like it then that's just too bad. He can find things to do other than watching TV. When he goes to bed, I get to watch the things I like, which may not be appropriate for him. My brother in law has always done the same for his kids (who are 10 and 3 i think) and has no trouble with it at all. The TV is not a babysitter. The airwaves aren't saturated with the adult stuff. With our cable system there are atleast 10 channels which never show things than young children shouldn't watch. My parents have basic cable and they have atleast 5 channels that are always OK. If my son stays with a babysitter (which is very very very rare anyway) they are told what is not allowed on TV in front of the kids. My hubby and I are the parents. We make the household rules. The household rules are followed and if broken, there is heavy punishment. That is what parents are there to do. The government is not there to do the parents job for them.
