"I sometimes think that the wound was so deep from 9/11, and it presented such deep scar tissue on the American psyche," Feinstein said, "that it kind of opened to door to all kinds of things that the American people would not have supported before." It's generally referred to as a wake up call, Ms Feinstein.
Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy lamented the "very deep division that exists in this country about the radical departure of this administration in terms of nuclear policy."
The deep division, between those of us who want to see that America has the means to protect itself against terrorists and rogue countries who never have and never will "follow the rules", and the Dems, who have never considered the protection of the US as a priority.
"We are going to do everything we possibly can ... to halt this reckless escalation of the nuclear arms race," said the Democrat.
But only in the US.

Nevertheless, "some of us decided that we're going to fight and try to raise the warning flag," she said.
And that flag would be Green with "Praise Allah" written in white?

To reiterate:
Rumsfeld: It's not to develop. It's not to deploy. It's not to use. It's to study.
Rumsfeld: We don't know. That's why we want to study it. And we're kind of inclined to think that the idea that we should not be allowed to study such a weapon is not a good idea. We think it -- for one thing, I -- and then I'll ask Dick to comment on the possible use against, for example, chemical or biological storage areas, where a conventional weapon could have a disastrous effect and a low-yield nuclear weapon conceivably could have an effect that would be -- that would mitigate some of the problems with a conventional weapon. But the -- it's important to appreciate that to the extent the United States is prohibited from studying the use of such weapons -- for example, for a deep earth penetrator -- the effect in the world is that it tells the world that they're wise to invest in going underground. And that's not a good thing, from our standpoint.
Rumsfeld: I don't want to prolong this, but it is terribly important that people not hype this and create misimpressions in the public about it by misusing words or being imprecise in the use of words, and saying things like "pursue," which you did. We should be very precise as a to what it is. It is a study. It is nothing more and nothing less. And it is not pursuing, and it is not developing, it is not building, it is not manufacturing, it is not deploying, and it is not using.

The Democrats only want America disarmed. Even Di-Fi knows 9-11 hit a nerve with Americans but she and her party won't recognize we live in a dangerous world and that we need to be prepared for all eventualities. Its telling our opponents lost the battle on Star Wars. They'll lose it as well on the development of tactical battlefield weapons and they'll be trusted even less by the American people when it comes to our national security. I say let them bring it on.

Moral of the story:
Democrats prefer keeping things as they are....That is, they prefer using huge nukes on cities filled with civilians rather than using small nukes on the battlefield.
Have they no consciences?

"For the past nine or ten years, we've had a prohibition in law against the research and development," Senator Carl Levin said Wednesday at a press conference."Gee, Carl, doesn't that coincide with the approximate time you Dims took over the Executive Branch and the Defense Dept? It looks like "W" and Rummy are still working to clean up the mess you left. You didn't "get it" then, and you don't "get it" now.

"The message from this administration (is) while we're telling everybody else don't go down that road, we are going to go down that road ourselves," he said. Senator Dianne Feinstein said countries around the world were also likely to become alarmed by the development.
In the 14 years that we have had our nuclear arms development branch closed, Russia has not closed theirs. It seems the only thing the disarmament treaty did is disarm us! If we run down that road fast enough, we might just catch up with the rest of the pack.
Feinstein is pretty stupid along with the rest of the RATS. They do not care about Americas Defense, they do not even bother to check the facts, before shooting off their mouths. Is disarming America good for a sound byte? By all means sell your soul for air time! I just would not mind so much if they were not selling us out at the same time.
You know, for a hundred grand a year plus job, one would think they should do their homework before sounding off using their office as a soapbox.

"For the past nine or ten years, we've had a prohibition in law against the research and development," Senator Carl Levin said Wednesday at a press conference. Times are changin', Carl. See us pulling out of Saudi and Germany? See us dumping France for Spain and Canada for Bulgaria? Notice Saddam and the Taliban are gone? Notice North Korea reniged on their deal? Notice Turkey being a bunch of twits? Notice that hole in New York City where a certain pair of buildings used to be?
"The message from this administration (is) while we're telling everybody else don't go down that road, we are going to go down that road ourselves," he said.
Oh, so if we just tell terrorists not to use nukes, they won't? Oh wow, why didn't we try that first???
To: kattracks
I love the idea. These weapons would be one additional reason for terrorists and their government supporters not to mess with the USA.

This attitude about national defense is not suprising, coming from the party that thought it ok that klintoon got his privates sucked, while committing men to battle.

Seems to me that the 'Rats are more concerned about foreign public opinion than they are about the hopes and aspirations of their own countrymen. From the viewpoint of anyone but a naive, starry-eyed Utopian, this makes no sense at all.
Foreigners aren't the ones who cast the ballots that get them elected.
