I was an original DOOM fan. I used to get sick playing that game, it was alot of fun! I am a big fan of the first person shootemup genre. Can't wait to see Doom III.

Though not particularly realistic, Doom was the goriest game of its time It was definately more realistic then wolf3d :) Doom 3 is one of the reasons I spent $400 on 9800 pro.

MOHAA is the first time since Half-Life that I've really enjoyed a PC game. Engrossing. I look forward to seeing how the Doom folks have pushed the graphics envelope.
Otherwise, I stick to my flight simming, when I'm in the mood for a lark.

They better not soup it up too much, I hate upgrading for games and I won't for just one not even Doom. Hope the imps still throw those slow fireballs, playing imp tango was my favorite part of the game.

Say what you will about scantily-clad heroines, and blood and guts, but these game developers are driving the computer industry. I say go for it.

You are an original Doom fan. Ah, but are you an original Castle Wolfenstein fan? This actually came out before Doom, and as far as I know was the very first 3D first-person shooter. This was the early 1990's, and we would invite friends over to play it who had never seen such a thing. Some of my friends would get sick, because they were unused to the 3D persepctive. Neat stuff.

in id's offices in a nondescript two-story professional building in a Dallas suburb. If anyone is interested, they're in Mesquite near the corner of TownEast and 635. This "Nondescipt" building is the tallest building in town and completely black. I had a problem with playing by moden so I and a friend went over there to try to figure it out. One of the game designers, can't remember which of my heroes it was, told me I had the wrong version and he handed me the correct one. No problem.
A blown up copy of the building was featured in the rival "Duke Nukem" game. Those guys are in Garland, which is just north of Mesquite.

I doubt Doom III will live up to it's hype, mainly because the hype it so great that it dwarfs the hype to the Matrix sequels, Star Wars prequels, The Lord of the Ring movies and the X-Men sequel COMBINED!!
If you listen to some diehard gamers talk about Doom III at Slashdot.org, they make it sound like the release of Doom III is second only to the return of Jesus Christ (I NOT making this stuff up folks) and some even think it is more important than THAT!
Personally, back then, I preferred Duke Nukem. He had more personality and was more likable and funny. You cannot go wrong with a character that is a cross between the Terminator (Arnold) and Ash (Bruce Campbell, Army of Darkness/Evil Dead). :)

The big question of course: will there be a new "Barney Doom" patch to go with it? >:)=

I wish there were more hours in the day so that I could find some time playing computer games. I haven't played a computer game (except maybe Freecell during boring conference calls at work) since the mid-1990s. I played all ID games: Wolfenstein 3-D, Doom and Quake (the first edition). I know that many people look down on these games, but damn, they were a lot of fun. Really got my andrenaline going.

I will get it when it's a cheapo $20.00 bargain bin item.. ..cause that's how long it's going to be before I can justify yet ANOTHER .5 or .6 thousand dollar upgrade just to play a video game.
Albeit, one that I love.
