Oreo cookies should be banned from sale to children in California, according to a lawsuit filed by a San Francisco attorney who claims that trans fat -- the stuff that makes the chocolate cookies crisp and their filling creamy -- is so dangerous children shouldn't eat it.

I LOVE Mexican food with lard in it. Tortillas, tamales, etc. all taste much better with lard.

Real food tastes better with real ingredients. Taste a chocolate chip cookie made with margarine, then taste one made with butter. There's no comparison.

Hydrox was always better than Oreo.

I guess SOMEONE has to think that, or else, the Sunshine Bakery would have gone out of biz years ago. But just looking at the packages, you could tell which was the original and which was the imitation. The filling of the Hydrox were always gooeyer, and the chocolate cookies of rougher texture than the fresh, crisp Oreo cookies.

Even the word "Oreo" was embossed on the cookies neater than "Hydrox" was.

Biscuits taste better when made with LARD than with veggie shortening. My granny made the BEST biscuits ever, she used LARD. Today we open a can of Grands biscuits and pop them in the oven and think they are great, especially if topped with home made strawberry jam and REAL Butter.

Ain't that the truth! And chocolate chip cookies made with margarine are as hard as hockey pucks.

When my oldest child was on the point of being weaned, my pediatrician sat down with me for the "nutrition talk." He said, avoid fried foods, I said fine. He said lots of green leafy veggies, I said great, love 'em. He said two percent milk, I said fine. He said, don't use butter. I said, "Doc, you done quit preachin' and gone to meddlin'." I have never had a tub of margarine in my house and I never will.

And you can't make a decent piecrust without at least SOME lard. It's got to be good quality "leaf lard" though - and that's hard to get absolutely fresh. So I let the Pillsbury folks make their nice refrigerated crusts with very fresh leaf lard, and I use those . . . mmmmm, pumpkin pie with whipped cream and nutmeg on top . . .
