Oreo cookies should be banned from sale to children in California, according to a lawsuit filed by a San Francisco attorney who claims that trans fat -- the stuff that makes the chocolate cookies crisp and their filling creamy -- is so dangerous children shouldn't eat it.

He is not suing for any money he just wants the sale of cookies heavy in trans fat not to be sold to children. OK so he's a little bit off the deep end by inviting the government into our lives once again, but on the other hand partially hydrogenated vegetable oil is one of the worst things you can eat and it is in just about everything. But again its everyone's choice on what to injest.

Until recently, I thought if I ever had to kill my neighbor it would be because I was ready to live by the Bill of Rights and he wasn't.

I do not feel the least bit obligated to peacefully share citizenship with the people that bring these kind of ideas to the public. We have no moral obligation to be nice to these people.

Indeed, we have a duty to kick their ass. Make them uncomfortable. The people that bring these kind of suits should be made extinct by a constant barrage of ridicule, scorn, hate, shame and scorn.

When I first saw the title, I thought the thread was going to focus on the new product that is chocolate on the inside and white on the outside. Alas, the isn't cookie racism. We have equal opportunity bashing of all races of Oreo.

On the rare occasion that I consume an Oreo cookie, my preference is the green, minty insides with the chocolate cookie outside. Does anyone know if the orange insides have an orange flavoring around Halloween?

Just kidding. California is a gorgeous state with some of the greatest people in it. But damn! Their liberal craziness is getting out of hand! I wonder how this stuff affects type two diabetics and people with triglyceride problems and lipidemia. Certain cookies knock me flat on my back.

It's bad stuff - I don't touch it now that I know how bad it is. Nevertheless, this is a stupid, stupid lawsuit.

The quickest way to lower triglycerides is to cut way down on carbs and eat lots of natural fats. I eat about 20 grams of carbs a day (which is low, even for a low carber like me), and get about 75% of my daily calories from fat (about two-thirds monosaturated). My last cholesterol test showed a triglyceride level of 42.

I'm also a Type II, and low carbing completely controls my blood sugar levels.

Happily living in a margarine/shortening-free home.

Bonus recipe:

Cookies

1 cup almond flour
1/3 to 1/2 cup Splenda (see NOTE)
2 tablespoons water (see NOTE)

Mix all the ingredients together and form into 12 cookies. Bake on a greased cookie sheet in a 350-degree oven for 15 minutes, or until browned around the edges. Let cool on the pan for half an hour.

Makes 12 cookies - about 1 net gram carbohydrate each.

NOTE: If you have sugar-free flavored syrups, you can cut back the Splenda to 1/4 cup and use two tablespoons of syrup instead of the water. I've used gingerbread syrup, English toffee syrup and peanut butter syrup in different batches. You can get all kinds of sugar-free syrups from Da Vinci - http://www.davincigourmet.com.

Today they ban Oreo cookies, tomorrow chocolate, the day after steak, eggs, bacon, then they follow with milk, and so on.

Pretty soon we will get a "government approved nutricious food pack" to be handed out by the government, all other food will be banned because it's not healthy. It's all for our own good, of course. And naturally all farms, food factories have to be owned by the government.

Then of course there will be no need for us to keep any of our money, the government will just take 100% right up front, and they will provide us withe healthy food, appropriate clothes, shoes (after all, heels are not healthy for women, so they shouldn't be worn)...
