What do Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and Saddam all have in common? They never tried to ban smoking.

"A few years ago," said the mayor, "you could smoke in movie theatres, you could smoke in Yankee Stadium and Shea Stadium, and you could smoke in Madison Square Garden. We stopped that. After a week, the stories went away and so did the smoking.
Thats how it works, take away a liberty at a time.
As for all of those who say "Why should I have to breathe this smoke.....?". You didn't have to go in the door and could have taken your business to a business owner who wanted to earn your money by banning smoking on his property for himself. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean you have to use the government to force the business owner to run his business in some way not of his choosing.

It is interesting. It's garnered sympathy from me, and I'm not a smoker.

I would like to understand Bloomberg's logic.
He bans smoking in restaurants, offices, shopping malls, etc. He now has issued orders to disallow a smoker to become a foster parent.
He gives health care to homosexual partners. He thinks it is fine for homosexuals to adopt children. He thinks homosexuals ought to be scout leaders.
If, by banning smoking he is hoping to change behaviour, how does that square with his encouragement of the homosexual lifestyle.

'You mean they did allow smoking back then? How archaic.' " And Hitler was hoping his people would say, 'You mean they did allow Jews to live back then? How archaic.' "

At a stroke, thousands of seasoned bar-room habitués have become reluctant exiles from their favourite corner seat.
With the stroke of the pen thousands of innocent people have been turned into "criminal" lawbreakers.
When government taxes property it proves, by that act, the property it taxes is private property. Government doesn't tax public property; doesn't tax the court building, city hall, the roads, armories, water works etc.
As much as politicians and bureaucrats try to blur the line in the sand that differentiates private property from public property, the property tax stands as one irrefutable spot light illuminating the difference.

"Why now?" says Mr Sullivan as he chews a piece of gum to ease his cigarette craving. "Maybe it is a good idea to have a no-smoking ban, although as a smoker I don't think so.The definition of spineless.
This is how it all begins.

Now they are pushing the anti-smoking laws on the entire state of NY. This state is so shot. I just received a $500.00 gas and electric bill for 1 month.
I think the liberals in NYC are trying to drive the upstate Republicans out of the state.

Seems like a good place to put a silly pic of Bloomberg. As the photo caption says, he wants to rule the unrulable city.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg stands dressed in armor on stage during his 'Mayor of La Mancha' skit at the annual Inner Circle charity dinner in New York, Saturday, April 12, 2003. To the tune of 'The Impossible Dream,' Bloomberg sang that his own dreams were to 'run the unrunnable schools,' 'rule the unrulable city,' and 'raise the unraiseable tax.'

One thing I suggest to all saloon owners in the Apple: In light of the murder ten days ago which resulted from a bouncer's efforts to enforce the smoking ban, all owners call 911 any time a patron is smoking.Mike Bloomberg has placed this law on the books and it involves possible violent confrontations. Dealing with violence resulting from enforcement of law is a police matter. Do this and Mike must make a choice. Continue to be a smoke Nazi and waste the Finest on that dubious job, or act in a manner that shows common sense. So all you saloon owners and especially the guys at The Old Town dial up 911.
