04-15-03- I was going to write an Op-ed today to go with our weekly Hall of Fame and Hall of Shame awards.
Then Tim Robbins spoke to the National Press Club today. I've recorded it for your listening disgust. To say it's beyond the pale is an understatement.
He has declared war on the 77% of the people in this country who support our president, this country and our troops.
Here is the audio.
Hollywood-Hero needs to say, one more time for the record, free speech does not mean free of consequences.
Freedom to choose what we watch, rent or buy does not equal a blacklist. It's called capitalism.
Actors are free to speak their mind, oppose the war, malign our president.
We, who disagree with their blanket dismissal of what most of America believes, are free to dissent.
We are free to decide NOT to watch a film, buy a CD, or rent a video.
That's where our power is and that's what they are really afraid of. The buying power of the American public, the ones who allow them the lifestyles they enjoy.
There is no Hollywood Blacklist as they infer by bringing back this new form of McCarthyism in the guise of a Republican Administration.
This isn't even a boycott, it's about our country, our freedom to choose who we give our largess to in the form of our buying choices.
If Hollywood can't take the heat of their own convictions, perhaps they should find another line of work that would better suit them.

BR is one of the funniest political comedies ever made. In the film Robbins portrays a right-wing Republican candidate for senate and he does it so well that many conservatives ended up loving the character, which I'm sure was unintentional. I loved the Bob Roberts songs: The Times are changin' Back! And what was the one about drug dealers? "Tie a rope... around the nearest tree... and string 'em up without a trace of sympathy...." LOL!!

I missed it.
I was cleaning the lint off my socks.

I don't know. The list was developed and initially published by others. In interviews she frequently describes how well read she is, but I can't recall any mention of a degree.

Yes, I was joking. I thought it was enough over the top so some would see it that way. Guess not.

Yeah, the songs in Bob Roberts are great. Actually, Robbins did think that some conservatives would like the songs, which is why the soundtrack to the film is not for sale.

I have been searching, and I have found the link for the audio for this speach, but my computer is messed up and I have no sound. Does anyone know where I can find a transcript? Nat'l Press Club site has it but you must be a member. I was looking forward to reading the rantings of this idiot in full. Thanks.

That crap about "a chill wind is blowing in this nation" came from the 1970 Jefferson Starship Album
Blows against the Empire . Inside the album was a book w/ drawings & poetry by Grace Slick. Somewhere in there I remember the words "It's a chill wind that blows against the empire".
Just more '60's recycled drivel. Slick (Grace not Willie) should sue Robbins for plagarism.

Can anyone tell me why this commie was allowed to spew his vitriol on CSPAN yesterday? Why was that a national event worthy of a CSPAN coverage? CSPAN and NPR are all commie-inspired media outlets and I hate them both! Defund them!

Exactly what I was thinking today. Bush was voted in as president. Tim Robbins never even ran for the office. Bush is Commander in Chief. Bush has 77% poll ratings. Tim Robbins needs TO GROW UP and/or SHUT UP!
How many NUKES would it take to ruin Tim Robbins' Whole Day?????

Here's a good sound clip from Tim Robbins.
howardtheduck4.wav.
Yes, that is our favorite hollywood idiot playing Phil Blumburtt in the critically acclaimed (NOT!) Howard the Duck. In this sound clip Tim Robbins is talking like a duck and Howard makes a very appropriate sarcastic comment at the end. Maybe we should edit Howard's comment and post it at the end of every Tim Robbins sound clip.

Read your link. Tim Robbins and his ilk regarding your link - I truly don't know what to think about them. I do think their complete stupidity is extraordinarily dangerous, but only to themselves. They think the rest of America is as dumb as they are. Not so. They are on the way down the toilet bowl where they belong and the rest of America is shoving them there!

<<"The meltdown is happening......this is not a pretty sight.">>
Personally I think it's one of the most wonderful sights I've seen in a long time, akin to the statue of Hussein being pulled down. May their meltdown last a while longer so I can savour it. Too bad they won't melt down into oblivion -- they'll be back and probably stronger than ever.
