USO Canteen FReeper Style ~ Sunday Chapel, Prayers for the Military ~ March 30 2003

Dear Lord,
There's a young man far from home, called to serve his nation in time of war; sent to defend our freedom on some distant foreign shore.
We pray You keep him safe, we pray You keep him strong, we pray You send him safely home ... for he's been away so long.
There's a young woman far from home, serving her nation with pride. Her step is strong, her step is sure, there is courage in every stride. We pray You keep her safe, we pray You keep her strong, we pray You send her safely home ... for she's been away too long.
Bless those who await their safe return. Bless those who mourn the lost. Bless those who serve this country well, no matter what the cost.

Welcome to The Canteen Chapel
.
.
Although we are always aware that the Canteen is operating in Cyberspace, we want the troops and anyone who is on the receiving end of prayers at the Canteen, to know that these prayers are very real.
I hope the troops and Canteeners alike, will view this Canteen Chapel, as a place where you might go in times of trouble or times of joy to be with your God.
"Come unto me all ye who are weary and burdened, and I shall give you rest." (Matt: 11:28).

REST IN GOD'S POWER
.
.
Since God Himself is the source of Truth, then Almighty present tense will work out His future tense resurrection dawn miracle in your life.
Wait. Be patient. Do not chide God. Be kind to yourself. Let God be God. Fold into His mystery. Refrain from ordering deity to do anything.
And the last thing you want to do--in fact, not do--is to pray a prayer of directives. That is, you do not want to phrase your own solution to your problem inside a prayer and then ask God to baptize it as a prayer. It is not a prayer at all; it is you playing deity. That cannot be for you cannot eat the forbidden fruit (that is, playing God) and live.
Therefore, right now rest in the Almighty's scheme of things, determined to become less and less strained about the end result.
But what to do with your energy while waiting upon the Almighty's way and time!
Direct your energy toward thanksgiving, refining your mustard seed faith, looking at the cross as your supreme blessing. In time, it surely will show you that it is more than wood stained; it is but the foreshadowing of resurrection dawn.
That is according to the law of life.
.
In Time of War or Time of Peace
In time of war or time of peace
In Christ I find my soul's release,
To lean upon His strongest arms
Would guard against this earth's alarm.
I keep my faith eyes on God's care
That's seen me through the trials here.
I keep my hand within His grasp
To lead me home to heaven at last.
I'll thank Him, praise Him, tell the world
That God can keep through fiercest swirl,
That He knows how to brighten here
The darkest corner, calm our fear.
It is a trust that's proven fast
Because His promises will last
From earth to all eternity.
They're guaranteed at Calvary.

A Charge to Keep
.
W.H.D. Koerner
.
A charge to keep I have,
A God to glorify,
A never dying soul to save,
And fit it for the sky.
To serve the present age,
My calling to fulfill;
O may it all my powers engage
To do my Master's will!
Charles Wesley
.
.
President Bush speaks about the painting and hymn that have inspired him.
.
"Hanging in my office is a beautiful oil painting by W.H.D. Koerner entitled "A Charge to Keep". The painting, inspired by the hymn, pictures a horseman determinedly charging up what appears to be a steep & rough trail.
The painting and hymn have been an inspiration for me & for members of my staff. "A Charge to Keep" calls us to our highest and best. What adds complete life to the painting for me is the message of Charles Wesley that we serve One greater than ourselves. It speaks of purpose and direction. In many hymnals, it is associated with a Bible verse, 1 Corinthians 4:2: "Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful."

. A Prayer for the United States
.
Translation:
He who gives victory to kings and dominion to princes, whose reign is a reign for all eternity, who saved David, his Servant, from the evil sword, who made a road through the sea and a path through mighty waters, may He bless, guard, protect, aid, exalt, make great and raise on high The President of the United States George W. Bush
May the King of all Kings in his mercy, keep him alive and guard him from every distress, grief and trouble.May he lead nations beneath his feet and cause his enemies to fall down before him, and may he have success in all that he shall undertake. May the King of all kings in his mercy, place compassion into his heart and into the hearts of all his advisers and ministers, to deal kindly with us and with all of Israel. In his days and in our days may Judah be redeemed and Israel dwell securely, and may the redeemer come to Zion, may this be His will, and let us say, Amen.
Thank you Alouette

George W. Bush: A President of Faith
.
A Man of Prayer
.
A reporter on CNN was asked
"What did George W. Bush do on his first morning as president-elect?"
This was Tony Clark's answer:
"He attended a prayer service with family, friends and staff members."
George W Bush's priorities were established on the first day of his Presidency.
The President Takes His Faith to Work
.
.
.
President George W. Bush looks over to Thomas Martello, 6, during the signing ceremony of the Victims of Terrorism Tax Relief Act in the East Room Jan. 23.
.
"We're joined today by families who have lost loved ones in the great acts of evil," said the President. "As you draw on faith and personal strength to cope with your grief, I hope you'll also find comfort in the knowledge that your nation stands with you and prays for you. We mourn those whom we've lost, and we face the future together."
The President Lives his Faith
During his presidential campaign, George W. Bush said he'd been 'called' to seek higher office and talked openly about his faith
President Bush says he prays every day in all kinds of situations, and has been seen to quietly bow his head and pray before news conferences and important meetings. "I pray for guidance. I do not pray for earthly things but for heavenly things, for wisdom and patience and understanding."
"For strength and support, Bush turns to the same things that have sustained him for two decades: his faith and his family . . . Bush prays and reads the Bible every day. These days, aides say, they often spot a Bible on his desk in the Oval Office. In conversation or meetings, he often refers to passages of Scripture that he has just read."
"There are prayers that help us last through the day, or endure the night. There are prayers of friends and strangers that give us strength for the journey. And there are prayers that yield our will to a will greater than our own."
George W. Bush September 14, 2001 National Day of Prayer and Remembrance.

Psalm 59:1,16&17 (Patti Vaillant)
"Deliver me from mine enemies,O my God:
Defend me from them that rise up against me.
But I will sing of thy power;yes I will sing
aloud of thy mercy in the morning; for thou
hast been my defence and refuge in the day
of my trouble. Unto thee, O my strength will
I sing: for God is my defence, and the God of
my mercy."
.
Our Prayer (Celine Dion/Andrea Bocelli)
I pray you'll be our eyes,
And watch us where we go.
And help us to be wise
In times when we don't know.
Let this be our prayer,
When we lose our way.
Lead us to a place,
Guide us with your grace
To a place where we'll be safe.
I pray we'll find your light,
And hold it in our hearts
When stars go out each night,
Remind us where you are..
Let this be our prayer
When shadows fill our day
Lead us to a place
Guide us with your grace
Give us faith so we'll be safe.
We ask that life be kind
And watch us from above.
We hope each soul will find
Another soul to love.
Let this be our prayer,
Just like every child,
Needs to find a place,
Guide us with your grace
Give us faith so we'll be safe.

Oh, got a good
Contessa story as well...
So I'm going home from work, on a nice, sunny Florida day. T-tops are open, wind in my face, engine purring, life is good.
Heading to the top of the Buckman Bridge in the hammer lane, doing about 75, I see PREY up ahead...in the form of a red, 1995 Mustang GT convertible, top up. I heads in that direction, wondering why he looks...familiar. Coming alongside the 'Stang, he kicks it a little, whereupon The Countess gives a brief, derogatory SNORT and, utilizing the 100+ horsepower advantage she posesses, proceeds to smoke-check her opponent handily.
As we scream away, Contessa's engine reaching its NASCAR-like battle cry, I remember where I've seen the 'Stang. A glance at its rapidly-receeding image in the rearview confirms it. It has a set of Naval Aviator wings on its front bumper.
I have just blown the doors off "The Red Rocket", the infamous, and beloved, mount of CAPT. Anderson, former C.O. of VP-30. My former boss.
Oh, well, it was The Countess' fourth kill. One more to make "ACE"...

I am not pleased at your paintball incident. I would enjoy getting my hands on the "people" that do such things and keelhaul them. They just have no clue what rights they enjoy. If you get a name, I'll send the one way ticket to Iraq, or Afghanistan, if they prefer.
Prayers going up for Gramma Cut, that she can see Mini Cut, and be relatively comfortable getting there.

Nobody knows where my Johnny has gone
Judy left the same time
Why was he holding her hand
When he's supposed to be mine
It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to, cry if I want to
You would cry too if it happened to you
Playin' my records, keep dancin' all night
Leave me alone for a while
'Till Johnny's dancin' with me
I've got no reason to smile
It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to, cry if I want to
You would cry too if it happened to you
Judy and Johnny just walked through the door
Like a queen with her king
Oh what a birthday surprise
Judy's wearin' his ring
It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to, cry if I want to
You would cry too if it happened to you
It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to, cry if I want to
You would cry too if it happened to you

" If you get a name, I'll send the one way ticket to Iraq, or Afghanistan, if they prefer." If I get a name, it'll be posted to every Sailor's and Marine's mailbox in Jacksonville, posthaste. The fun will then begin.
This one was harmless. What'll the NEXT one be? Slashed tires? A broken window? Then what?
I have absolutely zero problems with using hopefully painful force to protect my home and family.

Troops:
To those who lurk here on FreeRepublic: Do NOT trust the "embedded reporters" no more. Peter Arnett has finally shown his true colors: Anti-American, when he had an interview with the Iraqi Minister of Information and said your commanders have no idea of what they are doing (paraphrase). In war time, that is considered treason.
Do not trust them. They may be enemies of America.
For 3ID, do not trust the NBC correspondent, David Bloomer.
That goes for all 3 national networks "embedded reporters".
Trust your Commander-in-Chief and commanders only and your true buddies.
