San Francisco "We're With W" stand makes positive news
Posted on 03/21/2003 12:53:27 PM PST by Mediaqueen
Yes, it was ugly, but our 15-person-strong pro-troops group garnered extraordinarily positive and widespread media attention as the left revealed their venom and hypocrisy. As there was a debate on FR yesterday as to how wise it is to go out on a big news day when the other side is frothing at the mouth, I thought I would post the following after-action report.
******* We got our "We're With W" rapid response message out despite and even because of the hatred spewing from the anti-war crowd gathered in San Francisco's Civic Center at noon today.
During the event, ABC's KGO Radio went live with a report that included the following points:
1. The small group out here calling themselves "The Common Sense Majority" and courageously holding a banner reading "We're With W" was verbally assaulted by the anti-war crowd.
2. Alfredo Najera commented (paraphrasing....he was MUCH better)... "We're out here to remind everyone that WE represent the majority of the American people and to exercise our right to display our support for our country, our troops and our Commander-in-Chief.
3. The vitriol coming from the anti-war crowd didn't serve their purpose well. Alfredo: They're intolerant in that they were attempting to censor my opinion.
The reporter then went on KGO's Pete Wilson talk show to re-tell the story... with the host commenting on how counter-productive the anti-war crowd's actions are.
My admiration goes to our small group of 15 who fought a literal Soundbite Battle today, as the left was trying to cover up our banner and signs. With no capacity for reason or sound arguments, the 'peace' crowd was screaming obscenities at our group and eventually threw ketchup on them.
That juvenile and mindless action brought the cameras running, and the TV viz of the American flag, our banner, and a young woman with a W cap smeared with ketchup made our point better than we could have done ourselves. NBC Network News interviewed both Alfredo and Amy, so they might make it into a story on the network or MSNBC....keep your eye out.
I heard the coverage on KGO-TV was good and I know KRON-TV interviewed our people, but I wasn't able to watch the results. Associated Press mentioned the women wearing "W" caps in their story on the protests.
Alfredo was juggling interviews with Spanish radio and Univision afterward.... we were able to display the state the flag was in after the left was done with it.
If you couldn't make it today, please plan to join the Troops Family Day (will it be a VICTORY celebration?) on March 29... 12 noon, Civic Center. (Can someone post the flyer on a separate thread?)
My philosophy: be flexible, be timely, and hijack the news time whenever and wherever you know cameras are going to be... in other words, if you don't like what you're seeing (or going to see) on the news...go out and make some of your own.
THANK YOU to all 15 patriots who literally battled in the soundbite war yesterday. Hats off and good luck to ALL support the troops events ...Cheers!

Don't know if she was a Freeper but FOX News showed a woman yelling at the peacenuts. She said you should be kissing the ground. This country is paradise. And you should be thanking the American soldiers who are protecting your freedom.
She was awesome.

Well, I'm glad you all made it back in one piece! I guess I was a little burnt out from the last 4 counter-protests in a row that I've been to in SF, but I'm glad somebody got out there.
Since you mentioned posting the flyer for the 3/29 rally in SF---I was trying to do so myself, but was having technical difficulties, since it was sent to me as a Word document. Any thoughts on that?
I'll keep trying, but whoever posts it first, please ping the other...

Great work in the belly of the beast, Mediaqueen. It is just so surprising that the left doesn't seem to be very tolerant. :)

Wow! You 15 displayed the courage that makes America great. Congratulations! A job well done.

Glad y'all are back safe and sound. Saw some live footage of your group on, I think, KTVU-2.
We had a support-the-troops rally of our own in downtown San Jose last night and made KNTV-11 coverage. And we are having a bigger bash on Sunday noon - 2pm @ Stevens Creek and Winchester Blvds in San Jose/Santa Clara.

Sunnyvale Bump!
You all are doing great on the "front lines"!
I had a guy come up and ask where I got the "Liberate Iraq" sign in the back window of my Van...he wanted one too so I sent him the graphic from a FReeper post and linked FR for him. Much support here in the South Bay for what Bush is doing.
Cheers all, stay safe!

I too received the Word Doc. But the formatting was all outta whack, so I re-created it as a JPG. Hope that's cool. Should make it easier to pass around as a graphic--but keep in mind this is only optimized for the screen... Also, apologies to STL, since I am new to FR and don't know how to "ping" you per your request. :)
