San Francisco "We're With W" stand makes positive news
Posted on 03/21/2003 12:53:27 PM PST by Mediaqueen
Yes, it was ugly, but our 15-person-strong pro-troops group garnered extraordinarily positive and widespread media attention as the left revealed their venom and hypocrisy. As there was a debate on FR yesterday as to how wise it is to go out on a big news day when the other side is frothing at the mouth, I thought I would post the following after-action report.
******* We got our "We're With W" rapid response message out despite and even because of the hatred spewing from the anti-war crowd gathered in San Francisco's Civic Center at noon today.
During the event, ABC's KGO Radio went live with a report that included the following points:
1. The small group out here calling themselves "The Common Sense Majority" and courageously holding a banner reading "We're With W" was verbally assaulted by the anti-war crowd.
2. Alfredo Najera commented (paraphrasing....he was MUCH better)... "We're out here to remind everyone that WE represent the majority of the American people and to exercise our right to display our support for our country, our troops and our Commander-in-Chief.
3. The vitriol coming from the anti-war crowd didn't serve their purpose well. Alfredo: They're intolerant in that they were attempting to censor my opinion.
The reporter then went on KGO's Pete Wilson talk show to re-tell the story... with the host commenting on how counter-productive the anti-war crowd's actions are.
My admiration goes to our small group of 15 who fought a literal Soundbite Battle today, as the left was trying to cover up our banner and signs. With no capacity for reason or sound arguments, the 'peace' crowd was screaming obscenities at our group and eventually threw ketchup on them.
That juvenile and mindless action brought the cameras running, and the TV viz of the American flag, our banner, and a young woman with a W cap smeared with ketchup made our point better than we could have done ourselves. NBC Network News interviewed both Alfredo and Amy, so they might make it into a story on the network or MSNBC....keep your eye out.
I heard the coverage on KGO-TV was good and I know KRON-TV interviewed our people, but I wasn't able to watch the results. Associated Press mentioned the women wearing "W" caps in their story on the protests.
Alfredo was juggling interviews with Spanish radio and Univision afterward.... we were able to display the state the flag was in after the left was done with it.
If you couldn't make it today, please plan to join the Troops Family Day (will it be a VICTORY celebration?) on March 29... 12 noon, Civic Center. (Can someone post the flyer on a separate thread?)
My philosophy: be flexible, be timely, and hijack the news time whenever and wherever you know cameras are going to be... in other words, if you don't like what you're seeing (or going to see) on the news...go out and make some of your own.
THANK YOU to all 15 patriots who literally battled in the soundbite war yesterday. Hats off and good luck to ALL support the troops events ...Cheers!

Congratulations and THANK YOU to SF Freepers!
MQ - I think the tide has turned with the media. Unlike in the past month, they are actively seeking out the Pro Troops crowds to offer a different perspective. I think many of these reporters are getting disgusted themselves.

Thanks, fightinJAG... I should clarify I was confined to a cell-phone "commander" position in my car as one of my daughters was recovering from a flu bug... It was the others who had to take the abuse. (Although my daughter was BEGGING to go out and clobber the anti-war speakers....they were saying things like.... "who are the biggest terrorists in the world? USA!")

That is the American Spirit alive and well. Good job!

Front line or in the rear, all soldiers make the mission. Plus you had time to engage your daughters in a valuable education.
Again, well done, very well done.

Good job.
I like those signs, ones that say how you represent the majority of America, unlike the liberal freakos.

Thanks for the link.... I FORGOT this Protest Warrior group is in SF...should have tried to let them know where we were. Their mission is FABULOUS... a little different from what we were doing... Have they received any good media attention? I wonder if the reporters knew they were there? All questions I can ask them through their website....

Congratulations to you all! I'm particularly glad you seem to have had a Spanish speaker among you...it's very important to get this pro-USA news out to the Hispanic community.

Why aren't these people being arrested? If you had throw it on them you would be in jail. I read where Mr. Rumsfield's property was trashed and no arrests. What's going on. Do we not have enough law enforcement, or are they giving them a pass?
