I maybe wrong...but I think TASMs are still around (i.e.,in inventory)...anyway, you're correct. TASM would be a mega'lot of kickass in a can. It's just that the good'ole surface to surface Harpoon (can be air launched) fits the nautical mood of obliterating a commie yacht. :-))

Does this from Cronkite really surprise anyone? Come now people, I am just surprised that we haven't heard from Jennings, Brokaw and Rather, as yet.
There's this book, "Double Take - Politically Incorrect Limericks" by some body named Jaggero (which I read over the Xmas holidays) which sums it up about these fellows (Cronkite, Rather, Jennings, Brokaw) rather nicely, IMO; it's a cheap and funny as heck book that also makes some great observations about BILL/HILL and a lot of their best buddies, politicians (ours), pop-culture (& Hollywood leftists - the book accurately predicted that Bill Maher will return on cable...) and society, in general. Check out their website here:
http://www.doubletakebook.com
I'll say this too, if this book had a liberal slant it would be hailed by the media as a pure work of art! A picture I took of a poster ad (in NYC) can be seen here:
http://home.nyc.rr.com/sandr/poster1.jpg
By the way, I sent this book as a gift to a few of my liberal "friends" last Christmas, I haven't heard from them since...makes me wonder!

Thank you. Just because Cronkite is an idiot, doesnt mean that people should tell lies about him...JFK

He said that the smartest president he ever met was Jimmy Carter. The smartest man I know holds 30+ patents in the microwave/RF fields. He can barely remember my name after an acquaintanceship of over 20 years and wonders why his wife and subsequent girlfriends keep leaving him (couldn't remember their names either).
Intelligence is no substitute for leadership. Carter had almost no leadership skills. Bush is beginning to emerge as one of the greatest leaders this country has seen.

Time for him to be chained in the attic with Jimmy Carter. Both are demonstrably senile.

Finally someone besides me noticed it. I wish that the posters on this thread would realized that O.C. is, more than likely, lying to us. Sure, Cronkite is an excrement-head, but I dont like being lied to...JFK Calm down and read post #59. Had you read the article (link provided at the top of the post), you might have realized that the quote was an exaggeration, albeit I'd wager not far from the truth. Based on the responses, I believe most everyone else got it. Please accept my halfhearted apology for any offense you may have suffered.
To: O.C. - Old Cracker; Admin Moderator
Suh! Guilty as charged, suh! That was my version of a tabloid headline, but I believe the article can bear the weight of my exaggeration.I have plenty of problems with what Walt DOES have to say. However, there's no need to embellish it and then put your embellishment as a direct quote in the headline. It does this site a disservice.
To: O.C. - Old Cracker; BADROTOFINGER
I did read the article, 2 times looking for that statement.
If you want to report the news, please do so with the correct titles.
Otherwise you're wasting our time.
Thanks.

Calm down and read post #59. Had you read the article (link provided at the top of the post), you might have realized that the quote was an exaggeration, albeit I'd wager not far from the truth.I did read post 59. I also read the article, which you might have realized had you read my first post to this thread saying so. You, sir, passed the quote off as genuine. If it was an exaggeration, you should have put it in your first post, not in the title as an attributed quote. Nothing about the way you did it suggested that your 'quote' was an 'exaggeration'. Rather a lame plea to draw attention to your thread.
Based on the responses, I believe most everyone else got it.
Except the people who emailed O'Reilly and made us look like fools, right? FReepers like to be taken seriously, and it is hard to be taken seriously as a group when some of its members lie to the others, who then go off half cocked based on the lie. You can keep your half-hearted apology too, and keep your 'exaggerations' along with it...JFK
To: BADROTOFINGER
You have indeed made an exellent point of avoiding embellishment and exaggerations; the Left has mastered this, especially with the myth of the 'Stolen' 2000 Election.
No, we definitely don't need to stoop to the same level as someone like Michael Moore or Les Payne, although the bottom line here is the less we hear from Cronkite and others no longer in the spotlight, the better.

Before you get too mad, you might read the article. What O.C. put in the headline is just stuff he made up. Makes us look like liars and idiots unfortunately...JFK
You have a point, technically, but in my opinion you are over-playing it to the point of absurdity. OC just took a little creative license in the editorial headline. Should he have omitted the part about insinuating that we should be humbled? Sure. You made that point. You don't have to make it every 5th post.

He looks like he's either holding back wind, in the process of releasing it, or has fired a "test fart" and discovered that the corned beef and cabbage was a bad idea.

I'm not sure if you read the original headline that OC posted.
It said Cronkite says "The U.S. needs to be humbled".
Thankfully the Moderator changed it to what it currently says.
Making up headlines is stupid and if he thinks most people "got it", it's because most people didn't read the article.
Most merely trusted a Freeper.

The code phrase to the producer each night was "What's my magic?" which was a query as to how long he was actually on camera In the mid 1980's I was sailing my boat in the Chesapeake, just off of Annapolis. We overheard a radio conversation between Cronkite and the Annapolis Harbormaster.
Seems that Cronkite was arriving in his boat, in Annapolis, unannounced and was requesting a slip for overnight. When informed that none were available, Cronkite said "Do you know who I am?"
He didn't get the slip. And, as far as I know, the Harbormaster kept his job.

Another version of this story:
Walter Cronkite criticizes President Bush's ``arrogance'' over Iraq
MADISON, N.J. -- Citing what he called the "arrogance" of President Bush and his administration, retired CBS news anchorman Walter Cronkite said the impending war with Iraq could have unintended, dire consequences for the United States.
Speaking Tuesday at a Drew University forum, Cronkite issued a stinging rebuke of Bush and those who believe the war will be a quick, smooth operation that ends with the ouster of Saddam Hussein. He said the refusal of France and other traditional U.S. allies to support the administration's plans signaled something deeper, and more ominous, than a mere foreign policy disagreement.
"I look at our future as, I'm sorry, being very, very dark. Let's see our cards as we rise to meet the difficulties that lie ahead," Cronkite, 86, told a crowd of about 2,000 that included students, university officials, faculty and residents.
Cronkite also chided Congress for not looking closely enough at the impending war and failing to ascertain a viable estimate of its eventual cost, particularly in light of Bush's commitment to tax cuts.
Despite his criticisms, Cronkite said it was important that all Americans support their troops.
"The time has come to put all of our distaste aside ... That is the duty we owe our soldiers who had no role in deciding this course of action," Cronkite said.

Typical opinion from Conkite.....
I am so sick of all this debate about 'how much this war is going to cost'....
What is the cost of rebuilding New York or Washington following detonation of a nuclear device or dirty bomb?
What is the cost of cleaning up after a chemical or biological attack?
What is the cost in lives of either scenario????
Compared to that the cost of the war is in the noise!
