Announcement Regarding the Breaking News Posting Category
Free Republic
| March 18, 2003

Posted on 03/18/2003 6:51:02 PM PST by Jim Robinson
To All Posters of Articles, News, and Announcements, etc:
For the duration of the war on Iraq, we would like to reserve the "Breaking News" category for news items that are pertaining to truly breaking news stories. Please post other news stories to Front Page, Editorial, Extended, or News categories as appropriate.
For the time being, please post announcements or news of rallies, chapter events, radio shows, TV shows and other items that are normally allowed in breaking news to Activism, Announcements, Free Republic, News, State categories, etc., as appropriate.
Please try to keep vanity posts or personal posts to a minimum or post them to the appropriate topics in the General Interest forum.
(notice that I did not post this announcement in breaking news)
Thanks very much for your continued support in this effort to keep our news forum focused on the news and for making Free Republic the premier conservative news forum on the planet.
Jim

Thank you! I wouldn't mind seeing tougher rules for Breaking News ALL the time. Somehow what Dick Morris has to say does not seem like Breaking News to me which has just appeared!

I'd have to agree.
Let's be a little tougher for a while.

There was a "waiting period" when I first signed up. I recently mentioned this to the mods and was summarily dismissed.
Their reason was that it affected too many legitimate posters.
I feel that even a few hours would help limit the disruptors.
I love FR, but it is in desperate need of a more vigorous moderation system (ala slashdot)

Nothing to do with my suggestion. I think JimRob and the moderators should be able to post threads that will stay suspended at the top without the need for bumps.

Sheesh....not like I wanted this to hijack the thread!
All I am saying is that if one is a true Christian they realize everything in this world and those in it are a blessing from God...AND only for God's Glory.
America is a blessing from God. The Lord has given Bush a tremendous job of leading it...and he has done so very well I think...and with boldness. However, the Lord raises up and tears down nations at His Will. Bush's primary desire, if he is truly a Christian, is to do the Lord's Will first and always. This is not an unknown thing in Christianity. It has nothing to do with Christian taliban, whatever that is.
In Luke, from Christ's own mouth he tells us, (12:51-53) "Do you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? I tell you, no, but rather division; for from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two, and two against three. They shall be divided, father against son, and son against father; mother against daughter, and daughter against mother; mother-in-law against daughter-in-law, daughter-in-law against mother-in-law."
And (14:26) "If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple."
The point is that the word 'hate' is a relative term meaning that one's love for Christ above ALL else should make his love for others seem like hatered in comparison. Bush's love and devotion to America should not overshadow his love and devotion to the USA....and judging from his speeches, he speaks boldly for the faith so far. I hope it continues.

LOL! It is not that that form of reply wasn't expected...but I did expect something of a little more substance. Think you can give it one more try?

Jim
As we move into what for any of us is arguably the most uncertain time in our lives, if not the history of our country-- perhaps even civilization itself, I am humbled to be part of this cantakerous, ragtag group of people who call themselves FReepers
We spit and fight like schoolkids among ourselves, but if I need a back I'll have a FReeper on my back or I'll do it myself
It's not hyperbole to say that Free Republic saved our free republic in November of 2000.
If we had not had this forum to mobilize and communicate that momentous occasion might have turned a different way, and the ensuing cascade of consequences is too horrifying to contemplate
I'm not much of one for platitudes, but I am humbly and profoundly grateful for what you have created and fostered and preserved, and it is with no small measure of gratitude that I honestly say...
You have changed the world.
As surely as any man has ever turned history, since time began, you have changed the world. I saw it with my own eyes.
And I thank you.
