RNC Chairman Racicot Decries Daschle's Eve of War Attack on President

WASHINGTON - Marc Racicot, Chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), today issued the following statement in response to Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD), who on the eve of war attempted to gain partisan advantage by blaming President Bush for potential war casualties:

“As President Bush, our Commander in Chief, addresses the grave and serious threats we face at home and abroad, it is disheartening and shameful for Senator Daschle, who has previously advocated and authorized the use of force in Iraq, to now blame America first. I urge all Americans to reject such divisive and brazen political posturing.”

The following is the statement by Senator Tom Daschle that Chairman Racicot is calling him on:

SENATOR TOM DASCHLE: “I’m Saddened, Saddened That This President Failed So Miserably At Diplomacy That We’re Now Forced To War. Saddened That We Have To Give Up One Life Because This President Couldn’t Create The Kind Of Diplomatic Effort That Was So Critical For Our Country.” (Senator Tom Daschle, Remarks At International Association Of Firefighters Conference, 3/17/03)

Other quotes: In 1998, Clinton passed the Iraqi Liberation Act which called for regime change, but decided to bomb Serbia instead. Daschle supported that resolution by saying the following: "Look, we have exhausted virtually our diplomatic effort to get the Iraqis to comply with their own agreements and with international law. Given that, what other option is there but to force them to do so? ... The answer is, we don't have another option. We have got to force them to comply, and we are doing so militarily."

GREAT QUOTE, thanks!

THIS gem was just copied and pasted from the puny lizard's website:

"If the President decides that force is the only remaining option to disarm Saddam Hussein, Democrats and Republicans will be unanimous in our strong support for our troops and for ensuring that they have all the tools and resources needed to be successful."

RE: Senator Tom Daschle's public comments undermining the Cammander and Chief of the US Armed Forces:

Enclosed is a copy of the message I just sent to Senator Daschle, but I've just been informed that he doesn't bother reading his email unless a vote for him or one of his DLC cohorts involved.

I am therefore writing to you to insist that as Senate Majority Leader, you accept nothing less than a vote to censure Senator Daschle for his blatantly partison, absolutely untrue and unhumanly callous remarks to the American public. The case for censure, in Senator Daschle's own words:

"I’m Saddened, Saddened That This President Failed So Miserably At Diplomacy That We’re Now Forced To War. Saddened That We Have To Give Up One Life Because This President Couldn’t Create The Kind Of Diplomatic Effort That Was So Critical For Our Country." (Senator Tom Daschle, Remarks At International Association Of Firefighters Conference, 3/17/03)

"Look, we have exhausted virtually our diplomatic effort to get the Iraqis to comply with their own agreements and with international law. Given that, what other option is there but to force them to do so? ... The answer is, we don't have another option. We have got to force them to comply, and we are doing so militarily."
(Senator Tom Daschle, remarks in support of Clinton's Iraqi Liberation Act, 1998)

Senator Daschle's political gamesmanship has become a danger to public morale in a time of war.

Sincerely,

"Don't waste your time just writing Daschle. Send letters to the editors of all the newspapers of the sorry state that elected him. This link is to the clipping service of South Dakota's Newspaper Association and will distribute your comments to every paper in the state:" clipping@sdna.com

Thanks Sefton! I hope lots of FReepers will write. Here's mine:

Dear Editor,

I am horrified and disgusted that the great state of South Dakota elected a man like Tom Daschle to the United States Senate. He has become the most partisan extremist in the Democrat party and the words he spoke yesterday are a disgrace.

Mr. Daschle said: “I’m Saddened, Saddened That This President Failed So Miserably At Diplomacy That We’re Now Forced To War. Saddened That We Have To Give Up One Life Because This President Couldn’t Create The Kind Of Diplomatic Effort That Was So Critical For Our Country.”

I am also "saddened" that newspapers all over the country continue to give this man a pass. No one points out his blatant hypocrisy! When Clinton was president In 1998, this is what Tom Daschle said about the Iraqi situation: "Look, we have exhausted virtually our diplomatic effort to get the Iraqis to comply with their own agreements and with international law. Given that, what other option is there but to force them to do so? ... The answer is, we don't have another option. We have got to force them to comply, and we are doing so militarily."

I could cite dozens of examples of Daschle's partisan hypcrisy and lies. The media could easily do so, if they would only bother. I am hopeful that citizens have finally had enough and will express appropriate outrage. Daschle should not get away with making this statement about the President when our country is on the brink of war. It is as if Daschle hopes the war, homeland security and the economy goes badly. Then he'll seize the moment to use the circumstance for a partisan advantage.

Does every moment in this man's life have to be filled with partisanship and finger pointing? Can he not manage to at least be consistant with his beliefs, no matter who is President? Why can he not be a supportive American during this critical time? I hope Mr. Daschle will hear from not only his constituents, but many Americans who will express their displeasure with his disgraceful behavior.

I sent the pint-sized whiner an email last night and tried phoning him several times this morning - line was perpetually busy so I called my dim senator and asked him to muzzle his little friend Tommy.

He was speaking to AFCSME - a labor union - the only place he can play these days.

Text of my message of him today: "As a taxpayer and citizen of this country I demand that you resign immediately as minority leader. You are totally out of line disrespecting our President, especially at a time when we are doing the right thing. Your behavior is dishonorable sir, and the condition of your heart a sad issue. We want you to step down of an office that is too big for you. You have sown division and that is what you are reaping as of today."

Tom Daschle has sided with Jacques Chirac and France against George Bush and the American people.

He is a traitor.

"Look, we have exhausted virtually our leftist rancid effort to get the Bushies to comply with our own agreements and with international law (which we ignored under Clinton). Given that, what other option is there but to force them to do so? ... The answer is, we don't have another option. We have got to force them to comply, and we are doing so politically

Great post of Daschle's former comments, which I had to edit.

Are citizens allowed to impeach both Daschle and the Rep. that wants to "impeach" our President? It would take them by surprise that the people they should be serving and who pay for their big, fat salary and benefits, repudiate them.

I e-mailed him last night and have tried several times to call his office today. I feel no less angry with his statements, even as they near the day old bin, so will keep trying to reach his office.
