How did they intend to hijack an airliner these days?
Every third-rate terrorist group in the world is p!ssed of at al-Qaeda right now, because as of 9/11 there is no way in hell anyone can hijack an airliner without meeting stiff resistance from the passengers.
Heck, "hijacking" as a career option came to an end before the events of that day were even a few hours old -- when Flight 93 crashed into the ground in rural Pennsylvania.

Eh, a nuclear submarine is a pretty small target, and barely is up out of the water even at a dock. To fly an airliner in it and get a direct hit, not a graze, would be quite difficult.
While I'm sure with a hit you'd destroy the sub I question whether anything would be done to the reactor. You've got a pressure hull designed for deep diving, then the reactor itself.
And even if the reactor was damaged I really question whether there's any significant airborne release of radiation that would be a threat to nearby cities, despite the sort of fevered fantasies about this sort of thing by people that don't know jack diddly squat about reactors or radiation.
And you'd probably have to specifically hit the REAR of the sub with the airliner to do so, which would be even harder.

They don't have to hijack an American plane.

Hmmmm...that might put a little crimp into the Hawaiian legislature having voted a "NO WAR" motion or something like it as they did not so long ago...

Excuse me, sir, but as JJ would say, that would be "Poke Fried Rice".
As in "Poke Chop".

Use airliners to attack Pearl Harbor? That isn't exactly the smartest thing to do. Pearl Harbor has US Navy warships. US Navy warships consist of Aegis DDGs and CGs. These Aegis ships carry the Standard-3 surface to air missile. A CG carries around 90 of these SAMs and a DDG carries around 70. If an airliner were to go unresponsive to calls from controllers and it had been deemed to have been hijacked, the plane wouldn't within 40 miles of Pearl Harbor.

Probably just cream the plane and make a mess! The sub would need a paint job.
To: rwfromkansas
I understand. But it's not as if foreign passengers are going to be any more docile than Americans are.
To: Harmless Teddy Bear
Oh, please! I am not giving them any idea that they haven't thought of already. Get real. People much smarter than the two of us, have thought out all of the potential targets, gone on Fox, CNN, NBC, and the like, and discussed all of the scenarios, and they still haven't given the terrorists any fresh ideas. You don't think that Pearl Harbor would be on alert, at this moment, if such an attack was expected, and blabbed about on the Drudge Report? Pearl Harbor would be defended, and very secure if another attack was suspected. We would never let Pearl Harbor be attacked TWICE!
