Moderators, please pull if a similar thread has been started. I did a search on "snow" and blizzard" and came up with nothing.
What originally looked to be primarily a mid-Atlantic snowstorm has blossomed overnight into a monster snowstorm that threatens to shut down the major cities of the Northeast for tomorrow.
Just got the latest forecasts. Washington D.C. area will see 1-2 feet. Philly will see 17-34 inches according to their local mets. NYC will see 1-2 feet. And Southern New England (including Boston), which was originally thought to be missing this storm, is now pegged to get at least 10-20 inches before all is said and done with possible blizzard conditions tomorrow night as the storm explodes ("bombogenisis") off Nantucket island during the day.
Some very impressive snowfall reports already coming in despite the fact that the storm hasn't even developed off the coast yet. Some 8 inches is on the ground in the DC area and snow is falling heavily in the Philly area and parts of New Jersey. This snow is NOT from the storm that is expected to develop off the Carolinas this afternoon, move northeast and "explode" off Nantucket Island during tomorrow.
These storms are never a sure thing until they happen because they are so unpredictable. But this storm has all the ingredients to make it a storm of historic proportions from Washington D.C. to Portland, Maine. If everything falls together just right, we could be looking at 2 feet (or more) of snow in many urban areas of the Northeast over the next 36 hours.
Please post your local reports here.

"I remember when I was a clinical clerk on the Columbia Medical service at Bellevue hospital [NYC], must have been 1965/66. I had as a patient, an elderly lady who remember the blizzard of 1888. She was a young woman then and remembered seeing an elderly woman, a negro woman, in a snow drift, well on the way to being dead. She stopped her carriage, got out, bundled her into the carriage and took her home. She said in a few days her family took her home. She never heard about her again. Amazing what memories bad weather will dredge up."DrJoe, that is just such a beautiful story, it had to be repeated. Thank you for sharing.

Now is the time to panic and drink hard liquor instead ;-) I just hope it doesn't turn to freezing rain in the next 2 days.
All of my hard liquor is in a storage unit in Accomac, Virginia......
The freezing rain or even any icing is what has me concerned - this area is notorious for power outages even with the littlest amount of icing up. I caught somewhere that there have already been some power outages in the souther part of Delaware. So far temp is still staying in low 20's - butit feels like wind has shifted.

He said shuttle bus was pulling up as he got out of car and so ran for it - didn't realize he forgot charger till he got to hotel in Atlanta.
He wouldn't listen to me when I handed him one of the spares in the house to put in his bag before he put it in the car.
Aparently one of the storm windows is not closed all the way in my room and I just had a panicked little one telling me the window was stuck and the snow was coming in!!! she must have been looking out the window and saw where the snow had blown into the corner through the screen.
I reclosed the curtains and told her not to worry - we would take care of it in the morning.

Check out this satellite photo. The moisture is being drawn up the east coast all the way from the Yucatan peninsula in southern Mexico. Pretty amazing.

I wonder if you might be a bit more specific?

One beer is not going to do me a bloody bit of good tomorrow....
But thanks for the offer.
Actually I've been working a deal out with a friend for getting our beer supplies - he's got the proper vehicle and proper connections to get around the "non-essential" vehicle prohibition - he plans on calling the liquor store owner, picking him up getting our beer, taking the owner back home and then delivering me my share.
My part of the deal is to pay for it.

Haven't used one myself for quite a few years - that's one of the reasons why I bought an apartment. I shoveled too much snow while growing up.
