1964? I was living back east. Sounds like you're from this area, huh?

Envy your retirement. I still work, but only half time now so it's not so bad. Have plenty of time for golf which is the most important thing.

Hear there are going to be some bad winds tomorrow so batten down those hatches.

Dude, it looks like mainly showers in your neck of the woods, for now... which is good cuz' a couple of days ago your forecast was warm and sunny... but don;t panic cuz' el Nino is gonna be goin' for a bit, it would seem. There's a lot of moisture over the pacific and the jet streams can really slam it all over the Left Coast if that humididity gets sucked into it.. That guam supertyphoon kicked a lot of rain our way. and the forecast is another week of it on and off...

More media baloney! I'm in Tacoma and it hasn't rained a drop.

Just kidding, it's been a MILLION Gazillion drops. My goodness, it was bone dry from June to November, a wee bit of rain then, now it's time to build an Ark!

For those of you wishing for rain, careful what you wish for!

We've had rain and snow in our forecast with percentages between 50 and 90 percent for the last 3 weeks. So far, all we've had to a little spritz for about 5 minutes last night. Last year we had the majority of our snow between Thanksgiving and Dec 15th. We've only laid 3/8" of snow one evening and that is all gone. It is a strange winter in southeast Idaho. It is 50 degrees at 8:30 PM. Our normal average high is 32 degrees this time of year with a mean temperature of 23 degrees. My lawn is confused.

Just got back from warching the annual Eureka Truckers Parade. 50 or 60 big rigs running thousands of lights powered by Honda generators. Christmas is alive and well inHumboldt County in spite of rain squalls off and on for the hour it took to pass by. I looked for pics on google but found none.

Not really...I have only been here since 1954 but the paternal grand father of my current wife, aka my first wife, aka my child bride and also the mother of my children and grand mother of my grand children, arrived here in 1870s or 80s.

About the flood of 64...going south on 101 near Miranda is a high water mark beside the highway that is about 80 feet above the average water level in the Eel at that point. There was a bridge at Martins Ferry on the Klamath River that was taken out . I t was about 100 feet above normal flows. That storm did over 100 million in damages in 1964 dollars. I have no idea what that amounts to today.

I've seen that high water mark many times. It still doesn't communicate until you turn around and look at the valley on the opposite side of the freeway and imagine it full up to that point. Hard to believe.

We were isolated for 2 or 3 weeks so the Navy stationed a aircraft carrier off shore and flew rescue missions from the deck. Many people died including rescue crews. Thousands of dairy cattle died...they took bulldozers and dug pits on the beach and buried them. Whole towns were wiped put, PL lost every stick of lumber drying in the yards. I could go on for a long time recalling what little I can remember.

Just short of ten inches for this storm. The middle wave (today) was predicted to be the heaviest and in fact produced about half as much as the first, It was very windy but we haven't lose any trees so far. The power went out at about three. We've been on the generator all evening.

I had a blast today! Tomorrow should be fun too!

I talked to my sister in Soquel today and her rain gauge ran over at 6.5 inches in 36 hours. Eureka has not had half the rain you and GD have had but we have had plenty. The digital reader board on tv says we have had 5 inches this month but I think that is short

I still have 5 chain saws ever though I sold my acreage on The Klamath 10 years ago. I was the high bidder on a 10 yard dump truck load of madrone logs at a fund raiser for Rob Brown in Oct but the logger hasen't delivered yet because the weather has been good enough to log until this week.

I'm back. We just had a very close lightning strike. Sitting at 9.6 inches for the storm now.

Santa Cruz County has enormously variable weather both seasonally and by location. The record minimum rainfall for Watsonville in 1975-76 was 8.49"; the record maximum was in Boulder Creek in 1889-90: 124.7".

I saw that on the weather channel an hour ago. Also showed Cloverdale with 17 inches and Napa at nine. My gauge is showing 2.2 since 7 am today. Honeydew inthe Kings range can get 200 inches a year and Gasquet on the Smith River can get 244 inches a year. I guess it has to do with the topography.

10.6 inches for the storm, 25 ceanothus, about 60 iris macrosiphon, ten toyons, a dozen monkeyflowers and blackberries (native, not himalayan), and moved about a half yard of dirt.

Great weekend!

Now 15.5 inches for the storm. We just got one wild squall complete with lightning, hail, and .9 inches of precipitation in twenty minutes.

Wilder Ridge, which I think is east of Garberville has had 29.9". If it's where I think it is it drains into the Eel river which is over its banks near Loleta in the delta. You have had the brunt of it over all.
