I don't think you'll see any more bolting, least of all from McCain.

I'm no fan of the man but his views on most issues puts him at odds with a Democratic party that is moving ever leftward on issues such as national defense.

Furthermore, as Jeffords demonstrated, a defection that only results in a slim majority can easily be undone, leaving the defector in a precarious position indeed.

Finally, Arizona is no Vermont. A Dem McCain might not get re-elected.

Here is your worst nightmare coming. The Republicans have a one vote majority. Now that Landrieu won in Louisiana, the Republicans have no room for error. Watch for a double switch with both McCain and Chaffee switching to the RAT party giving them a majority once more.

I tend to doubt this. Look what happened to Jeffords. McShame is up for re-election in 2004 (if he runs). The Rats have to defend more seats in 2004 and if they lose a seat or two, the switchers are in the wilderness for a long time.

Trust me on this, I would hate to see it happen. Consider what confronts the RATS right now. They are in a deep hole and they know it. No one wants to donate to them because they can't do anyone any favors and their promises are even more worthless now than they ever were. They are fully aware right now that perhaps they made a big mistake because they didn't reward Jeffords ENOUGH! They would not make the same mistake again if McCain and Chaffee switched. The RATS would pull out all stops to give them as much power and they could afford to part with, and as much riches via campaign donations and "junkets" as they could extort from business.

Going back to the earlier part about donations, remember that no one wants to donate to them right now. If they pulled off a double switch and regained the majority, they would brutally punish a few lobbyists and businesses who didn't come up with a huge donation recently. After they got businesses and lobbyists sufficiently terrified, they would literally extort hundreds of millions of dollars from them. I have said it before and I will say it again, the RATS make the mafia chieftans weep with envy. No criminal organization in world history has had as much success as the RATS! (Of course this is all merely my OPINION!)
