Good Republican Haircut
October 14, 2002 | Monte Smith

Posted on 10/18/2002 3:27:01 PM PDT by Monte Smith

I just got a haricut. A good, decent, short haircut. A businessman's haircut. Conservative. Short back and sides with a number three buzzer.

Ah. (Deep breath).

Is there anything better than a fresh, honest haircut?

The woman who cut my hair was named Ludmila, an emigre from Moscow. We were able to speak a few words of Russian together. "Does it luke alraght?" "Da. Xorosho. Cpaceba."

Man, does anything make you feel as good as a nice, new haircut? I haven't got anything on my neck except a button-down collar and nothing on my ears except Rush Limbaugh.

I know he's lost a lot of weight, but doesn't that kinda hurt?

I have long hair. Longer than most womens'. Hey! I used to be a liberal, ok? It is a neat way to catch people off guard when I start talking politics with them. FReegards.

It's not what's on the head and on the ears that counts. It's what's in the head and between the ears.

You're lucky - so far. Sampson ended up with a whole bleedin' temple on top of him.

My sons and I are going first thing tomorrow morning. We get it cut "down to the wood" as Ben the barber would say :) He always scrambles to stash the girlie magazines back in his office when he sees the boys coming.

When I turned 45 and started getting thin on top, I commenced getting my cuts with #1 clippers. Beats having a comb-over.

What's even more impressive for our times, is that you got this fine, Republican cut from Ludmila, a Russian, in a free, capitalist exchange!

A toast to the Republic that unites us all!

These days, long hair on a man is at least to me more disarming and pleasant than the skin head and crack showing pants garb of the white boy G-wannabes.

I was a long haired lefty once myself.....a quarter century ago now...lol

When did barbers start asking you what number clippers to use? I didn't get the memo. How the hell should I know what number? That's your job!

I just got a haricut.

Is that anything like a Bobbitt cut? Shear madness - no?

Looks just like my boys.

My barber still uses hot lather and a straight razor when he shaves the edges. I've asked him to shave the rest of my face that way many times, but he won't do it. At 80, he thinks his hands aren't quite steady enough. Lord knows what I'm going to do when he retires. Real barbers, as opposed to "hair stylists", are rare in these parts.

Your ears are lucky he lost all that weight.

I presently could have a 3 inch ponytail, and if I did that, I would look more idiotic than I already do.

One of the minor pleasures of moving out of the "big city" to more rural surroundings is the fact that I now go to an old fashioned barber shop which in no way can be described as a stylist or a salon. I ask for a "long crewcut" (#2 blade on the sides, just barely long enough to lie down on top), which takes 10 minutes or so. They just raised their price fron $9 to $10, which I good-naturedly complain about, before handing over a $2 tip.

Best thing is, they let me bring my 85-pound dog into the shop. The barber knows he'd better not knick me while shaving around my ears, lest I call for Atlas to come to my defense!

anyone who lives in the San Jose area should check out "Kens Rock and Roll" barber.

I think he's still there...the shop is. Next to Roberts Books, across from San Jose State.

Good Republican haircuts to be had there. Good classic movies on the TV. Model of the Maltese Falcon in the shop...

He even shaves your neck with a straight edge razor...leather strop (sp?) at the ready....and a quick rubdown at the end of your haircut. (sorry..shoulders only)

Only thing is he is drinking a Budweiser while he cuts hair now and then. He's an old Navy Barber. Relatively old, he is about 50 or so.
