Forrester Statement On New Jersey Supreme Court Decision

(TRENTON, OCTOBER 2) – U.S. Senate candidate Doug Forrester tonight issued the following statement:

“Today, the people of New Jersey lost. The Torricelli-Lautenberg machine’s disregard for the rule of law, fair elections and the people of New Jersey will, once again, make our great state the butt of national jokes.

“The good people of New Jersey understand what has transpired over the past few days. A few powerbrokers read public opinion polls and concluded that I was going to beat Bob Torricelli, and decided to change the rules of the game. The good people of New Jersey will not allow these political games to win the day.

“Today, this election became an election between, on the one hand, those who seek to restore New Jersey’s reputation and, on the other hand, those few powerbrokers who will say anything and do anything to rig the system to their advantage. I will continue my fight to restore dignity and honor the office of the United States Senate. And with the people of New Jersey, we will win this fight.

“Unfortunately, the New Jersey Supreme Court has now decided that New Jersey law, as written, should not apply to this election. Their decision is flawed.

“We will pursue an appeal of this matter to the Supreme Court of the United States, to ensure that the men and women of our military will not be disenfranchised and that the rule of law will be upheld.

“This is a fight that the Torricelli-Lautenberg machine began when it decided it could not win this election within the rules provided by state law.

“Regardless of the outcome in the courts, I will continue my fight to put the interests of the people of New Jersey before politics.

“The Torricelli—Lautenberg machine has failed to fight to strengthen our national security. The Torricelli – Lautenberg machine has consistently voted to cut defense and intelligence spending.

The Torricelli – Lautenberg machine voted against a national missile defense system to protect American families and our allies. The Torricelli—Laugtenberg machine has failed to clean more than 19 of New Jersey’s 132 Superfund toxic waste sites. The Torricelli—Lautenberg machine has consistently voted for higher taxes and against a Balance Budget Amendment. And under the Torricelli – Lautenberg machine, New Jersey has remained dead last among the states in getting a return on the tax dollars we send to Washington meaning our hardworking families continue to bear an enormous tax burden.

“These issues continue to confront us. These are the issues I have been speaking about since I entered this race. Theses are the issues I will continue to speak about until Election Day.

“Enough is enough. I will continue to stand against the Torricelli-Lautenberg machine. Hang on, New Jersey – help is on the way!”

Newt on Hannity and "butthead" just called it "Enron politics - If they don't like the rules, they just keep changing them until they acheive the result they want". Excellent summarization. I miss Newt...

Yeah, but they both know that the DemonCRAP bosses will commit homicide against BOTH of them if they don't do what they are told. This gives them a strong incentive to bury the hatchet -- at least until after the election.

Clintonism is winning at all costs, it is Hitlerism with a smiley face.

That is exactly why the Party of Clinton will be referred to be me as the Clinton DemocRAT Party. He slime has infested the entire Party and it is rotting from the core out. This may just have become the most important election in our lifetime!

Search: N.J. Supreme Court Order Violates Bush v. Gore by Chief Justice Rehnquist - posted on FR tonight. Sorry - don't know how to link.

What does that mean? Does it increase the odds that the SCOTUS will take it?

Is Forrester really so bad that the only candidate he can beat is a proven cheater?

That is not the point.

The phrase has been used so often and in inappropriate situations it has become trite, but the man does have rights, too.

He entered the contest under certain rules and this idea that he can't address this outrage performed by the NJSC today is nonsense.

Having said that, this statement is excellent and HE clearly is not going to make the legal situation the focus of the campaign.

...I found the NJSC decision spendidly free of legal reasoning, or any attempt to limit its reach, or explain just why the statute was inapposite.

Yes! Makes you REALLY proud doesn't it?

I disagree. The "machine" implies political cronyism and corruption, exactly what just happened in NJ the last 2 days. I think Doug needs to keep pointing out the unethical behavior of both Torch and now the NJ Dim machine. He should say that he is now on a mission to change the corrupt political environment in the state of NJ.

New ads should begin immediately...and with "Toricelli-Lautenburg" repeated over and over again...even pictured together (or perhaps doing a morphing effect). They are both corrupt, and this needs to be pointed out--immediately.

The New Jersey Supreme Court turned SCOFLAWS? LOL! That was fast! The entire hearing this morning turned out to be for show just as we all thought it was. These guys were like an open book and we all knew even before they released their decision, how they were going to rule on this. Looks like they rewrote the law to please the Democrats in New Jersey but in the words of the President's father - this will NOT stand!!! Godspeed to Doug Forrester.

Nothing wrong with beating them at their own courtroom game. The rule of law needs to be upheld.

but if Forrester had an ounce of worth it seems he should be up to taking on all comers...right?

I saw him on TV last night. He said he didn't care who he ran against, he was still going to run his campaign and talk about the issues important to the citizens of NJ. Sounds like he'll do just fine! It is the Dems who are going to have an uphill battle!

They already control the media, the universites, the schools, the networks. And now you want to hand them the court system without a fight also?

Forget it, Fan. You won't even recognise that I'm on your side. I'd bet a DUer or Timmy Dashole would be ecstactic that you and I are upset at each other and not united against these SOBs.

We both agree that winning the election againt whomever is a good thing. I just believe that winning in the polls will seriously damage the Dems, while "winning" in the courts will actually be used by the Demonrats to undermine OUR credibility like they have harped on the "unelected" Bush even still.

And to answer your sophomoric polemic: No I do not want to "hand them the court system" too.

The SCOTUS won't touch this with a 10-foot-pole. Bank that.

Former NJ Judge Napolitano disagrees with you. He just said on Fox News that the USSC will return the case to the NJSC next week and order it to reconsider, as it did to the FLSC. He says the language of the USSC order to the FLSC during the FL debacle is equally applicable to the NJ situation. Of course he doesn't know what the USSC will do, but then neither do you.

I'm praying to almighty God for the USSC to oveturn the NJ court, no matter what the politcal ramifications may turn out to be. This gross corruption in NJ stinks up the entire country, and it can't be allowed to stand or the nation may as well admit we no longer have a representative republic. Words mean things and the words of NJ's election laws are quite clear and easy to understand, even for corrupt NJ justices on the take.

It is odd to characterize as a "machine" as mechanism whose disparate parts would commit homicide against one another if they could get away with it.

I disagree.

There is no other apt way to describe what the democratic party is in NJ than "machine".

It is not about the personalities of Torricelli and Lautenberg. It is the orchestration of this outrage today that both are complicit in.

And despite the touted enmity between the two the money got passed over to the "successor", no?

That is the sign of a well oiled machine.

The Torricelli – Lautenberg Machine

A talking point from your (and our) lips to God's ears. Repeat often.

Beautiful!

Does the US constitution giving plenary power to the legislature just apply to electors, or does it apply to elections for congress as well? Or is this just about military ballots? Inquiring minds want to know.

I take it you found the NJSC decision lacking in its persuasive logic. Is that a fair statement?
