In the when pigs fly category, a photo of several D.C. Chapter members from our September 29, 2001 counter-demonstration at the Navy Memorial and National Archives is prominently displayed in a new tome by (yes, that) Peter Jennings and Todd Brewster, In Search of America.
The photo, credited to Serge J - F. Levy/Matrix, was taken in front of the National Archives as the D.C. Chapter, along with a couple hundred patriotic Americans who joined us there, stood up to several thousand commie/anarchist/peacenik anti-war demonstrators.
The black-and-white photo is spread over two full pages (92-93) of the $50 coffee table book and is accompanied by a sidebar article that mainly focuses on the U.S. Park Police officer in the foreground who stood between us and 'them.'
Stand watie can be seen hold a sign saying, "Welcome Bin Laden Fan Club." Taxman is holding, "No Teargas Necessary--We're Conservatives." Behind him, ELS holds, "Give Self-Defense a Chance." Sauropod is filming the crowd with his videocamera. Leadpenny is holding a sign with an American flag on it and the words, "We Will Never Forget."
Other signs in the photo say, "God Bless Bush" and "Rally Against Terrorism, Not Against Your Country--Join our Democracy." Several large American flags, along with a Gadsden flag, that we were holding are also prominent in the photo.
A couple of the signs have the Free Republic URL on them, which is how the researcher for the book, Anne Hollister, was able to contact the D.C. Chapter for background info about the photo. Ms. Hollister was pleasant and professional in her conversations with us and did a good job doing the research for this photo. The preface in the sidebar story about the rally is told accurately and without bias.
The Park Police officer, Phil Sherman, gives a good description of his thoughts from that day and how the Park Police works to protect the rights of all demonstrators in D.C.
While the photo is but one story out of many told in the 308-page book, we are honored ( and let's be honest here, shocked) that Peter Jennings found FReepers doing what we do best while he was In Search of America and kept us in the book.
Next you'll see JimRob favorably interviewed by Jeffrey Toobin on Good Morning America. (Well, maybe not.)
EAGLES UP !!!

BRAVO....Congratulations to all! Can you please post the photo?
I'm not technically proficient in such matters, but hopefully Dave will see this and do the honors.
Which REALLY means it was written by Todd Brewster. I seriously doubt that Jennings made any contributions to the book other than pretending to be a co-author.
( I am glad the DC Chapter made it into print-sounds as if many good signs were captured forever, too. BRAVO!)
And, Peter, it's true: nobody likes you.
