Immigrants may get tuition break
USA Today ^ | 08/12/02 | Mary Beth Marklein

Immigration-reform activists are fighting a bill working its way through Congress that would make it easier for public universities to charge in-state tuition rates for undocumented immigrants.

The bill, called the Dream Act, would repeal a 1996 federal statute that discourages states from granting residency benefits to undocumented immigrants. The bill would primarily benefit children of illegal immigrants who were raised in the USA and graduated from a U.S. high school. It also would enable those children to eventually become legal citizens.

A copy of my letter to Senator Richard (DICK) Lugar as well as to President Bush whom I had received the exact same response from on previous letters.

I read the article published in USA Today which stated that illegal immigrants in many states would be joining others who have already passed laws allowing illegal immigrants the luxury of only having to pay in-state tuition fees for college. This Sir is a slap in the face to every American citizen who has spent their lives paying taxes in this country. I have written you before on this very subject and you only replied with your remarks sympathizing for those children who were in this position due to no action of their own. Well Sir, I am writing you today because I know of a particular situation in general which your support for such bills only represents a slap for every AMERICAN VETERAN in this country as well as the state of INDIANA.

I recently had a very good friend of mine move from North Carolina with her Fiance who had just finished serving in the UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS to the state of INIDANA where he has enrolled as a student at Ball State University as well as enlisting in the INDIANA national guard.. However,  because he has not lived in the state of INDIANA for 365 days or more he is not considered a resident and therefore he must pay out of state tuition. Isn't it great to put your life on the line for this country and this state only to have the government  slap you in the face and then give those privileges that should be yours to illegal immigrants?

Does it really pay to be an American?
NO!
It costs and it cost a hell of a lot!

What does an American have to do to get benefits from our government? Do we have to give up our citizenship and then swear allegiance to another nation only to sneak across the border back into the US as an illegal immigrant to receive all the benefits that our taxes have paid for?

I can only say that I'm thankful that elections are just around the corner since you feel so free to give tax dollars from hard working Americans to the subsidizing of tuition for illegal immigrants I feel free to give my vote to anyone else who can truly sympathize with the American people rather than just looking for another vote.

Best Regards!

Unbelievable! I heard a snippet on FNC today about colleges admitting students based on their sob stories. Now this!

Please write you local representatives and encourage them to abandon such support for bills like the one being proposed by Senator Orrin Hatch. Email addresses to ALL INIDANA Representatives are provided at the end of this message. You may aslo visit the Indiana General Assembly at http://www.in.gov/cgi-bin/legislative/contact/contact.pl#senate

Also please dont forget Senator Richard (DICK) Lugar at http://lugar.senate.gov/

One of my best friends has a boyfriend who just finnished serving 4 years with the UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS and then moved to Indiana from North Carolina to serve in the Indiana National Guard and while they pay 75% of his tuition he still has to pay out of state tuition because Indiana law requires that a person live here for 365 days before they can be considered a resident. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT? This man is willing to serve the state of INDIANA and his country but our government places the desires of illegal immigrants ahead of his dreams for a better life for he and his family.

I keep looking for the "sad story" exemption to the immigration laws, and I just can't find it. Does anyone have a US Code cite?

''By and large, these children . . . grow up to be contributers to society, working to better themselves and provide for families,'' says Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, who introduced the bill. They were ''brought to the United States through no act of their own.''

By and large, Senator Hatch can't be oblivious to the effect of yet another incentive for Illegals.

He is, however, blithely gnorant of the divisiveness of his pandering.

He shall learn.

They were brought here through no act of their own

Yeah. But at age 18, and having gone through an American school that was forced to spend $7000 a year on them by the courts, they should know that they are in the country illegally and that attending college in the "old country" is a simple matter of getting in the car and driving south for a few hours.

It's amazing. According to the illegals, they simply can't ever feature going home and paying for their own schooling, or hospital care, or what ever. Nope. They insist we owe it to them. That's not the attitude of "immigrants"; it's the mentality of a parasite.

And one more thing:
says Pacheco, whose family moved to Texas from El Salvador in 1989
This is the new euphemism for illegally crossing the border. They "moved to" Texas. Ummm, why yes, they "moved here", but they did so against our laws, and did so knowingly.

But now the press can't admit that. Wouldn't be nice to label them, right?

Hatch is just another guy who works for guys that like to have the option to hire cheap(er) labor. Cheap, educated labor is like found money. Crap, it is found money!
The schools love it because they have to keep the numbers up. They need the enrollments. Trying to cut it on just American kids would be a disaster- the remedial work that American kids need would make the colleges a hybrid of secondary & higher education processes. A baccalaureate degree would average out to approximately 7 years to earn (at present it lies between 5-6 years).

Shoot! it must be great to be an illegal ward of the state. You break the laws and you get sent home, if you stay and beg for mercy the US govt. will send you to college at the expense of others who can't even afford to send thier own children to college.

Come on, FReepers. This is example #1897 of your "Two-Party Cartel" that cares nothing of you Americans but wants their job & power to flourish. Then they want your child to lose their life so the elites can have OIL to charge you at excessive prices. Now be a good little American as they say & go to the voting polls & put them back in office at a 95% rate. Oh, it gets better. They have put your children in debt so their tax rate will be approximately 80-85%. I'm glad you are soooo happy with a Bush administration. After all, it could have been AlGore. He probably could have only given the NEA an additional 6 BILLION rather than 11 Billion. He probably could have only increased the debt by 3 Trillion rather than 2.5. But both can make you feel like second rate citizens in a country not built by illegals.

It is, but Latinos are well over half of the Illegals. C'mon, the math is there and the motive is clear.
