Which State is the Armpit of America?
Arthur Wildfire! March

Ok fellow freepers. The aristocracy had fun deciding which 'hick town' was the armpit of America. Naturally it had to be rural and conservative. A tad redneck.

They were way off the mark. I would have picked New York prior to 9-11. I mean, good grief. Hellery's husband pardoned bomb terrorists to get her elected, the scandal is exposed to every New Yorker and they elected her anyway? She was silent on the issue for at least a week. But well, perhaps NY had been reborn in blood. So, I'm tempted to give them a pass.

Arkansas? Could that be the armpit of America? The home of NationsBank, Tyson Chicken, Walmart, Web Hubbell, and the Big Creep himself?

Then there is the delightful state of New Jersy, which is batting a thousand at elected scandal-swamped senators. Not only the Torch, but also Corzine.

Some might choose South Dakota. Not only do they keep re-electing Timber Tom [also called Rushmore Daschle], but they also go three days without brushing their teeth. So many choices....

Proud current inhabitant of Bay Ridge, where Irish drunks coexist peacefully with Muslim Arabs and Russian teeny-boppers (and at least one Polish-Italian ex-Lawn Guylander). It is the most underrated neighborhood in Brooklyn and the best in terms of eating in bars. As a matter of fact, the reason I took so long to reply is that I left to go drinking in a local watering hole in my building.

eating in bars=eating (as in restaurants) and bars). I'm still recovering from my hangover.

Illinois does in fact have a motorcycle helmet law, unless that law has recently been repealed.

Illinois did have a helmet law.
It was overturned by the Illinois Supreme Court as unconstitutional a long time ago. ( don't ask me why)

I have a bike and only use a helmet to keep my ears warm!

BTW The Illinois Supreme Court is loaded with hacks, who are little more than Daley's lap dogs.
Included are ex Chicago Mayor Bilandic and some guy who got stopped for DUI by a state trooper and pulled a " do you know who I am!"

You can't run from those problems because they exist EVERYWHERE! Crooked politicians are everywhere.

Yes & No. Look at Montana. You'll see a big difference

People have the power to change the political climate, get rid of corrupt politicians,
&
Do we just sit and let the socialists dictate the change in this country?

Many people don't want change and in Illinois they outnumber those who do.
Illinois and Chicago are prime examples of those sucking off the government tit, voting to keep the checks coming, and the social programs ( and socialism) rolling.

At our expense!

If Hollywood is the anus, what the hell is Berkley?

Agreed, Berkley is the pits, or whatever.

New York--Anyplace that would elect a carpetbagger like Hillary must be full of dumb bunnies. Their moral ignorance is matched only by their arrogance in thinking that anything west of Philadelphia is off the map and full of unsophisticated rubes. New York may not be the center of the universe but it might qualify as the armpit of the nation.

I dunno. Maybe I am just blind to the fact that Illinois is where my parents and sisters live, where my aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents live(d). It is where most of my best friends live. It is home and I am a somewhat drawn to home. I guess I am funny that way. I grew up in the Peoria area, and it is mostly working class, far away from Chicago. Downside to that is it is (or used to be) heavily pro union, which almost ruined things for the area in the 80's. Overall, there are good folks there with good values.

I live in Indy, home to a democratic mayor and democratic governor. I don't see things here being any better, with exception of some of the corruption.

I don't think Illinois is a police state, at least the SS hasn't made any visits to anyone I know.

You voted Virginia?

Are you referring to Northern Virgnia or Danville?

Ok. I'm game. Why does my state have such an odorific smell? Is it Warner? Is it me? [I'll go take a bath I guess...] Is it our chicken tax? Our pig tax? Our ever-remaining car tax that we can't get rid of? Is it our ever-growing city of Richmond? Dang capitol keeps mushrooming in size.... The strange death of Betty Currie's brother? I'll try to fix it. Whatever it is, I promise. =]

I'm half Californian, actually. So buddy, I got roasted already. But I know there are a lot of frustrated people in Jersy, Taxachuttes, and Clinton State who need to vent about their dang state now and then. I know. I'm one of them. =[

I have no idea but it has to be the one with the largest deoderant company headquartered in it.

[Sad, grim sigh.] Nice of you to say so. But we need Triple A antipersperant here in VA. We still have that blooming car tax!!! We elected a Christno-phobe, Warner. We are a tobacco state discussing a cigarette tax????!!! Chicken tax. Pig tax. Sheep tax. There might even be a gerbil tax for all I know. I imagine we will have a flushing tax meter on every toilet before long. Open the door a crack. I'm gagging here!
