Freep Report: Florida Freepers Meeting 7/21/02
FL Freep Chapter HQ ^ | July 25, 2002 | Gene McDonald

Posted on 07/25/2002 5:42:19 AM PDT by Seeking the truth

The Florida Chapter met at Duffy's, a sports bar/restaurant in Boca Raton on July 21, 2002 from 1:00 to 5:00.

The following FL Freepers attended:

Seeking the Truth
MinuteGal
Gonzo
MatchettPI
Old Glory
Luke Freeman
TigerBill
Fearless Flyers
Dorben
Silver & black cuban + spouse
Yakboy + spouse
3D Joy
Maccraze
My Favorite Headache
GoddessZena
G-Man + spouse
Jacvin
Sledge
Rep of PBC
5 other not yet Freeper Guests!

The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Jody Warmack, aka "GoddessZena", who led the successful campaign to stop the new Sheriff of Palm Beach County from removing the American Flag off the uniforms.

After a brief discussion explaining the FreeRepublic Network, MinuteGal explained the details of the upcoming FRiva in Las Vegas.

Next up on the agenda was Jack Merkl, who is running for Robert Wexler's seat in US House District 19. Jack gave an overview of his background and why he is running and then also entertained questions.

Jody Warmack followed with her background and why she is running in the Republican primary against an incumbent Republican County Commissioner (who also happens to be the Chair of the Republican Executive Committee of Palm Beach County!). Jody also entertained questions from her fellow Freepers.

My Favorite Headached followed the two candidates with an update on the Naples/Hilton Resort/Arab rapes/ (there are two now)/FBI investigations. MFH has been keeping us informed via his posts on these situations.

The last item on the agenda was an open ended, free wheeling brainstorming session re: What should the Florida Chapter do about Janet Reno? It was agreed that we will remain on the sidelines until she wins the Demonrat Primary, which is September 10. There were many ideas put forth as to the messages and methods that should be employed in the eight weeks between the primary and the general election.

The meeting was adjourned and the apres Freep socializing commenced!

Gonzo & LukeFreeman took many photos and will probably post them to this thread.

As Chapter Leader, I would like to thank all those Florida Freepers who attended. Some Freepers drove quite a long distance. MinuteGal & My Favorite Headache drove over from the west coast of Florida and LukeFreeman & Tigerbill came down from Titusville.

Hi Gene, my grandparents were from Brooklyn, Flatbush Ave. I have a yearly magazine published in Brooklyn from the turn of the century.

We lived in Summit, NJ 'cause it was the place to move for people who lived in Brooklyn and worked in NYC and is on the DL&W line (delay, linger and wait). Tracks stopped in Hoboken and then we took the "tube" unto NYC.

Summit was a great place to grow up. It is steeped in Revolutionairy history. Summit was where the "Beacon Hill" fire was, NYC can be seen from there on a clear day. We took trips to Valley Forge, Jockey Hollow, Dolly Madison's home, Mt. Vernon, DC etc.

The Watchung Reservation was one of the first settlements in NJ, 1600's, houses were restored and are still rented out. There was a copper mine and a salt peter mine (still is there) where gun powder was made for the malitia. I ran through those woods as a kid finding arrow heads, old tomb stones and living the history.

I am so disappointed not to have been there with all you great people for the Fl. Chapter get together. I will be there next time! I get my new hip Aug. 27th!!!!

It is such a shame that New Jersey has turned into such a liberal cesspool.

My parents moved from Jersey City to Freehold. Freehold is another old Revolutionary era town. It was the County Seat way back when and still is today.

The Battle of Monmouth was fought nearby and the old Tenant Church where Washington's blood is on a pew and Molly Pitcher's well is there too!

As a kid growing up, it could not have been better. We rode our bikes everywhere (large distances too) and found so many arrowheads and minie balls. We also swear we found Molly Pither's well a dozen different times!

We use to camp out in some farmers field. It never bothered the farmers.

Those were the days......the shore was close by.....all that history.

Hey there.....we lived in Watchung area (not far from Summit)until the late 80's .....It was great place to raise our family of four sons!

Also sorry to have missed this meeting of FL Freepers but I'm being held hostage (grin) in Kennedy Kountry (YUCK) until October.

Will return in fighting form...and eager to join you in FREEPING RENO!

"...(P.S. Did Gonzo behave?)..."

Well, babe, none of the girls complained! That Viagria stuff really works!

I do think it's a dirty-trick, however, to give the State Cops Camaro Z-28s as pursuit cars.

Oh well, it was nearly a fair-fight! But I had the modified LS-1 engine-----ZOOM-ZOOM-ZOOM. Smootches, babe............FRegards

It happenned the last time I went to Boca for the algore freep. Scares the crap outa ya.............FRegards

Wow, I know where Freehold is! When we got there we were almost at Long Beach Island. We spent the summers there to avoid the polio epeidmic that occurred mostly every summer,at Surf City. The movie "The Summer of Forty One" sure took me back there. I could smell the drug store, soda fountain and the sundries. Although it was a few years later than that (not many) that we were in Surf City.

It sure was a nice youth my brother and I had. We spent many summer days in the woods and bike riding all over the place.

I look forward to meeting you and reminiscing a bit.

You picked a nice spot to raise children. I actually haven't been back to the area since the late 60's, and I have heard how it has changed.

I look forward to meeting you at the next meeting.

Look forward to meeting you also.....enjoyed reading your Jersey memories. Our first house (before our move to Texas) was in Hazlet, NJ....from there it was easy to visit the Shore.

Then returned to Watchung Hills area in early 70's and spent 18 years there....greast place for raising boys....they fished the creeks, rode bikes everywhere and swam in the local lake. One severe winter we all skated the frozen Passaic River!

You all tweaked many happy memories!

Sounds great! I wish I could've made the trip. Maybe we can have another meeting closer to central Florida, so everyone has a chance to be there.
