It is such a shame that New Jersey has turned into such a liberal cesspool.
My parents moved from Jersey City to Freehold. Freehold is another old Revolutionary era town. It was the County Seat way back when and still is today.
The Battle of Monmouth was fought nearby and the old Tenant Church where Washington's blood is on a pew and Molly Pitcher's well is there too!
As a kid growing up, it could not have been better. We rode our bikes everywhere (large distances too) and found so many arrowheads and minie balls. We also swear we found Molly Pither's well a dozen different times!
We use to camp out in some farmers field. It never bothered the farmers.
Those were the days......the shore was close by.....all that history.

Hey there.....we lived in Watchung area (not far from Summit)until the late 80's .....It was great place to raise our family of four sons!
Also sorry to have missed this meeting of FL Freepers but I'm being held hostage (grin) in Kennedy Kountry (YUCK) until October.
Will return in fighting form...and eager to join you in FREEPING RENO!

Wow, I know where Freehold is! When we got there we were almost at Long Beach Island. We spent the summers there to avoid the polio epeidmic that occurred mostly every summer,at Surf City. The movie "The Summer of Forty One" sure took me back there. I could smell the drug store, soda fountain and the sundries. Although it was a few years later than that (not many) that we were in Surf City.
It sure was a nice youth my brother and I had. We spent many summer days in the woods and bike riding all over the place.
I look forward to meeting you and reminiscing a bit.
