The GAO does reports for any member of Congress who requests one. It usually takes the stance that the member wants it to take. It acts as an arm of the member's office. This is a general rule. I have not followed this issue enough to see what is actually going on in this case.

Just remember one thing. The Justice Department under Bill Clinton was supposed to be non-partisan also.

Just remember the "Key" incident - when the Bush Inaugural Team tried to set up their offices and the GAO refused to turn the keys over as long as Gore was still whining. There's your clue...

I don't know, but my assumption is that GAO workers, being civil servant government employees, would statistically tend to be Democrats. Most government employees are Democrats.

Since their reports seem to always anger either side of the Republicrat party, it would seem they are unbiased in the general view.
It's like a quote I remember from Christie Whitman when she was nominated for EPA boss (paraphrased) "The environmentalists hate me because I'm too pro-business, and the businesses hate me because I'm too pro-environment. So I must be doing something right."

The Director,
Mitch Daniels, was a vice president at Eli Lilly. Prior to that he served as Chief of Staff to Senator Lugar (IN), and as political director in the Reagan Administration (1984). He worked for three years at the Hudson Institute and in 1988 he helped Quayle's VP campaign.
The GAO spokesman, Trent Duffy, was the RNC Press Secretary. Prior to that, he worked on the Bush campaign. And before that, he worked under Ari Fleisher at the House Ways and Means committee.

GAO works for congress. OMB is part of Executive branch and reports to President.

This scum bag needs to recuse himself... It seems that half the DOJ and the Houston DA have already had to recuse themselves. Enron may have found a new defense tactic -- grease so many palms that all those people will have to recuse themselves, and do so much damage that the other half have to recuse themselves because they knew or were a victim.

I was GS, and I remember far more conservatives than liberals, this is especially due to a lot of the government workforce being ex-military.

As a previous Gov. employee and sister of a lifetime Gov. employee, I can say that the great majority ofGov. employees are union members and dedicated Democrats.
