Some FReepers have nicks that are obvious in their origin, others don't. I've seen several that probably have interesting stories behind them.
I thought it would be cool to see where FReepers get their handles from. If you don't like this topic, DON'T POST HERE! No one forces you to read this. I'm sure other people may be interested. If I'm the only one, let me know so I can crawl away in shame.

Well, I'm still on the new side here. But I'm Calpernia at FreeRepublic. Calpernia is my character when I play in the Empire of Ironthorn or NJ Kingdom (type of SCA) Calpernia is also my favorite character in mythology. I love language arts. She was the wife of Julius Caesar.

I don't have time tonight to read this whole thing and don't like to post if I haven't read.Trust me ,it doesn't make a difference in my posts,I am a lazy writer and need a clean up person,"she meant to say".I choose fatima because I have a devotion to Our Lady of Fatima, mostly the rosary which helped me alot and I love my name.Did you post AntiJen,which # is it?I miss the Chief-he always started these threads. It was always when we were bored or being bad,he always knew.Eternal rest Chief.

For the explanation regarding my screen name, please check my profile page, hehe.

Our Russian-adopted daughter's name was originally Evgenia, the nickname for which is Zhenya. The Cyrillic spelling for Zhenya is an "X" with a vertical bar through the middle (the zh sound), an "E", an "H" (an n sound), and a backwards "R" (a ya sound). The closest I can get to that with a latin keyboard is XEHR. Being her papa, that makes me XEHRpa.

"Alberta's Child" is a song by Canadian country music legend Ian Tyson about an Alberta cowboy's attachment to the land, the cold winters, and his cattle.
You have to know Albertans to understand what it means, but they are a lot like Texans and identify themselves as "Albertans" first and "Canadians" second.
"And he may go to hell, or even Vancouver -- he'll always be Alberta's child."

Mine is U S Army EOD. I was in the U S Army and was in EOD which stands for Explosive Ordnance Disposal and not Every One Drinks, which we did. We were the Army bomb squad. We disarmed unexploded munitions, deconed poison gas, and eleminated bio-hazards. This wasn't training, we did it for real and did it a lot.
Our motto was, "If you screw up, you will always be the first to know".

I have no idea why I picked this name and I sure wish I hadn't. Something along the lines of "The FreeRepublic Stud" would have been so much more applicable.
