The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic will forever admire the courageous stand taken by Linda Tripp to tell the truth during the dark days of the investigation leading up to the impeachment of President Clinton. This was done at great personal sacrifice.

It is with great sadness and concern that we learned recently that, while others have profited handsomely from their criminal acts during the Clinton era, Linda Tripp has been nearly bankrupted and is facing foreclosure on her home. She was fired from her government job by Bill Clinton on the last day of his term. Her attempts to find another position in her field at the George C. Marshall Center in Germany were sabotaged by a leak to the press.

Since then, according to press reports, Linda has not been able to find work commensurate with her experience. We believe that this is because she is considered radioactive as a result of her reputation for telling the truth and not going along with the business-as-usual practices of those who do work with the Federal Government.

According to press reports, actions leading to foreclosure on Linda's home in Columbia, Maryland, have commenced. She had been renting the home out while staying with friends but it has recently been without tenants.

Members of the D.C. Chapter are stepping forward to help Linda in her time of need. We want her to have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. If you would like to share the D.C. Chapter's efforts as we give a hand up to a FRiend, here's how you can do so:

Send a check or money order payable to Linda Tripp. Please send it c/o David K. Colapinto, Esq., Kohn, Kohn & Colapinto, P.C., 3233 P Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20007. Mr. Colapinto will see that whatever funds are received will go directly to Linda Tripp and not to a defense fund.

When you were reading my posts on other threads you must have missed the one's where I argued that it was nobodies business if President Bush Sr. cheated on Barbara. That was a source of contention when I made the claim, but sometimes reasonable views have kind of magneticism, and people seemed to come round. The only possible reason for thinking it matters is to know whether Linda Tripp actually slandered President Bush Sr., but whether she did or did not I hope you'd agree that it was inappropriate for her to pass along that rumor.

As I've said before, there seems to be a difference of opinion about Linda Tripp. There doesn't seem to be a material disagreement about the facts. But some people place greater weight on her having exposed Clinton's lies and others place greater weight on her having spread an ugly hurtful untrue rumor about President Bush Sr. I don't see how either view is unreasonable. I can understand how someone would come down on either side given the balance sheet. Maybe you think there's only one reasonable view here, but you haven't even made an attempt to say why. I like to learn. I change my mind when I hear new information or hear a good argument. That's what makes FR a great place. It's the best source of information on the web. But the signal to noise ratio on this thread has taken a nose dive and I don't want to contribute to the degradation. So, again, goodnight.

Your purpose on this thread wasn't to find out if Linda Tripp had passed on the rumor about Bush the elder. A quick google search would have answered that question for you. Your purpose was to bash Linda Tripp and in the process throw some dirt on George H. W. Bush. Your smarmy "I only want the truth" act doesn't play well here. Try Broadway next time. Break a leg.
