Typical catholic bashing. Doesn't mention that a better way to fight HIV would be to circumcize all African men. If the pope came out in favor of circumcizing all teenagers, like the MUlsims do, would the guy be happy?

Joe Selvaggio PRIt's not pleasant to confront your religious leaders and tell them they are wrong, but we do have the great example of Jesus doing just that.

If women had a leadership position in the church, this kind of nonsense about using condoms would never be a moral issue As per the Bible:
1 Timothy 2
11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission.
12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.
13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve.
14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.
15 But women will be saved through childbearing--if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.
Sounds to me like this is not an issue, woman cannot have authority over man.

As a practicing Catholic what part of Humanae Vitae does Joe not understand? Bet with all that education he hasn't even read it.

St. Thomas Aquinas, perhaps the Catholic Church's greatest theologian, once argued that rape, while a sin, was not as great a sin as masturbation, since intercourse was a natural act while masturbation was not. Today we smirk at this kind of reasoning. Hopefully, someday soon we will look at the pope's pres ent position on condoms as equally absurd and harmful.Well this so called writer is probably right about rape being a greater sin. However, masturbation is the ultimate insult to oneself by oneself, as a Buddhist friend of mine once remarked.

"I pray that he will soon have the courage to reverse himself and apologize to the millions of poor who have suffered and even died because of the church's attitude toward condoms."
hunh?
oh wait, I get it, condoms will make everything all better, no more suffering, poverty or disease. Yes, I understand now, recycled condoms are the answer to all the worlds problems.
I'm finally free!

BWAHAHAHA! Masturbation and condoms are the road to hell, eh?
I've heard the earth is flat too.

Typical Catholic-basher. 1) Claim to have years and years of Catholic education--i.e., argument from authority, the weakest argument. 2) Cite some argument from Thomas Aquinas that few people are likely to agree with. Do not mention that Thomas Aquinas, like any prolific theologian, held a lot of views that never were and never will be part of the Church's official teaching, but were philosophical opinions, or the medical opinion of his time. 3) Bring in some irrelevancy, such as whether women can be priests or not.
Nothing this man says has any connection with whether using condoms is or is not intrinsically immoral. He simply bashes the Church for awhile, and then, when he thinks he's got his audience in a nice anti-Catholic mood, asserts a position at odds with the Church's.

As a practicing Catholic for 64 years with 24 years of Catholic education (eight of which were studying Catholic philosophy and theology), I feel qualified to speak out. So, as long as you've been Catholic long enough, you have the moral authority to teach that the Church is wrong? What about me? I'm only 23--I feel disenfranchised. I want to be a dissident too!

The fact that they already have AIDS and are screwing eachother out of wedlock doesn't come into it, right?
To: Valin
Did I miss something here...is the pope supposed to pay for these condoms too?
To: Valin
I have still not located the cheese in this article.
To: Valin
For a minute there I thought someone had figured out how to manufacture condoms out of old wine and cheese.

While on the subject of inter-faith apologies, it's about time the Anti-Santa Defamation Leaguers bone up to offer one.

Hey Selvaggio. If given the choice between your two-bit opinion and that of the Pope, guess who I'm sticking with? You can just STICK it!
What a low-life cretin this guy is.
To: Valin
This guy obviously hasn't read even the first book of the Bible "Be fruitful, and multiply". I don't recall any disclaimers attached.
