[history]
On Dec. 4, the Star Tribune had an excellent editorial decrying the fact that AIDS-fighting condoms are being recycled because they are in short supply in African nations. The U.N. population fund estimates that $1 billion is needed and only $40 million gets funded. Millions of people are needlessly dying because of this shortage. The pope and bishops of the Roman Catholic Church should take a major share of responsibility for this loss of life.

Typical catholic bashing. Doesn't mention that a better way to fight HIV would be to circumcize all African men. If the pope came out in favor of circumcizing all teenagers, like the MUlsims do, would the guy be happy?

As a
practicing Catholic for 64 years
I wonder when he's going to stop practicing and start doing it for real.

Joe Selvaggio PRIt's not pleasant to confront your religious leaders and tell them they are wrong, but we do have the great example of Jesus doing just that.

If women had a leadership position in the church, this kind of nonsense about using condoms would never be a moral issue As per the Bible:
1 Timothy 2
11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission.
12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.
13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve.
14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.
15 But women will be saved through childbearing--if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.
Sounds to me like this is not an issue, woman cannot have authority over man.

As a practicing Catholic what part of Humanae Vitae does Joe not understand? Bet with all that education he hasn't even read it.

From your link:
Joe left the priesthood in 1968 to apply the gospel more practically and directly to issues of peace and civil rights. What hogwash. He obviously tired of the rigors of the priesthood and forgot what it meant to be a priest, if he ever knew at all.
If women had a leadership position in the church, this kind of nonsense about using condoms would never be a moral issue. Women would not endanger themselves with recycled condoms, as they are forced to do in many Third World countries.
Women do not now, nor ever will have a "leadership" position in the Roman Catholic Church. To follow that absurd premise with the even more absurd argument against recycled condoms illustrates just how far removed from his Holy Orders he has become.

I don't know, but I do know it makes it easier tto keep your unit clean.
As to HIV as a buddy of mine says "Don't want AIDS? Easy don't be a junkie and keep your pants up."

Well I'm well aware of the cleanliness aspect, bud... We're talking about a virus here though, one that's transmitted via exchange of bodily fluids... I hardly think smegma would be an issue what with all the other fluid-swapping that occurs when a guy takes his pants off...

It is not for me to say. I quoted the authority that rules my life. I live by the Bible, do you?
On a side note, I disagree with not giving condoms, the catholics are wrong on this issue.
